Hi John, Sorry to hear that Tony Mapson is back in hospital, hope he gets better soon.
It explains why I have not been able to get him on the phone. My only contact with
Tony is phone or email. Please let him know that I have been trying to contact him.

Best Regards, Ray Smyth, Ex Robert Baillie.

Just had the first spuds out the garden for tea, super fresh and easy to scrape mmmm ! now I am posting on behalf of “snapper” as he cant get his equipment working, in the yard today for a wash of by Trevor Lomax from the city of culture, he said that not me I just say he’s from skateville but he is ready for the next assignment must start charging him for posting his pics, cheers Buzzer.

PS. We even wash the roofs but you cant see that unless you climb the stairs on a ferry.

Hi Ray,

Hope all is well with you,Charlieone came round today to have a repair done to his Italian driving machine, whilst this was carried out we visited Tony in hospital and spent some time with him, he was a lot better than I expected and was very appreciative that Gill and Horry had been to see him, he has his i Pad with him so is able to keep an eye on things, especially the nurses !! He can’t wait to get home, but knows he has come back to have more operations, before he gets the all clear,We did a few miles with him and he was probably glad when we finally left. Charlie very kindly bought me lunch which was a kind gesture, until the bill came and he paid with my DKV Card !!
I am pursuing a claim for Tony against the ferry companies, as he believes that the handles on the fruit machines on board have caused the damage to his lungs as they used all his strength to pull them and made him short of breath.
Thought of you yesterday as I came down the M40 and Tony Orlando was singing on the radio.
Give my regards to Wigan.
Richard

Morning all,
As its a nice start to the day I thought a nice family picture would be in order. Harvey

Busy old day down here, first at 6am lawnmower man came to fit new belt on me ride on, had me porridge and away at 7am to finish the grass cutting not heavy crop but the mower has a conditioner on and finished that by 9am home took the mower off did the eggs then went to pick up an Ifor trailer for bale carting. Went to see the grass at 4pm and we could have baled it tonight it has dried that rapid, light breeze and hot as well now the contractor is scheduled for 9.30 am to row up and bale and wrap then me and me two mates have to cart and stack it. After tea mowed the lawns and footpath and just had a well earned cup of tea, shower and to bed sharpish tonight cheers Buzzer.

Buzzer:
Wrighty my nipper said it may have been one of Gilders come to think about it, well you have the head start on me with the silage/haylage making but I am now going to put the mower on in readiness but only got ten acres to do as I fed the rest off. The weather is set fair from Tuesday on but a lot cut on Friday here and got caught out with torrential down pours, so unpredictable he weather.
On another note I sold my little Volvo cattle truck to a dealer/farmer in Co.Donagall in Southern Ireland, a mate drove it to the ferry in Liverpool for shipment and he picked her up the other side, he bought it on pictures and my description and after ringing him it was nice that he was really pleased with it now looking for a replacement but in no hurry to do that and will see what comes along, cheers Buzzer.

Are you replacing the Volvo Buzzer or do you not use it enough to warrant having a cattle truck ?

Heres one Paul sent me.

Thanks to you and Paul for the picture, as for replacing the Volvo I am taking my LGV medical in the next couple of weeks and if all ok got my eye on a replacement 12 tonner with a tasty cattle body on it, its just convenient to have one you can just jump in and go.
Today the contractor came to row up and bale, could have done it last night but he could not accommodate that so AM it was, the machinery is huge and it only took about an hour and a half to complete and another couple hours to cart it in using my pickup and ifor trailer plus me mates ifor tipper all in the stack at home now just needs a shower or three now for the aftermath to kick in, cheers Buzzer…

Woman follows one of our trucks with her three children in the car and they notice the logo on the rear of the trailer and burst out in song to the Mary Poppins musical, the logo is a play on words SuperCalibreFrigoLogisticsExportImportDavies which has adorned the rear doors on our trailers for some years now, anyways they made her stay behind the truck till they had sung it twice before overtaking and apparently they were still singing it till they got home, she remarked it had cheered there day up considerably and this is not the only time we have had communication on this subject, cheers Buzzer.

PS. this happened a couple of years ago.

JD…
I’ve emailed you with a very interesting article that the likes of you , Wrighty and the farmin’ followers might like. I’m not clever enough to cut and paste :open_mouth:

Toodle Pip. Balders.

first time I saw this I was behind one of yours in a jam on the m40, made me smile and I kept on singing it in my head to the film tune…

I can imagine how handy it is to have your own motor for moving live stock.

Heres another one Paul sent me from 2013.

Morning Buzzer

Another busy week up ere gathering crop in, last lot down now and hopefully get some of it in to hay but the weather is not looking too promising.
The crops have been good this year with them been cut a bit later than usual and are greening up faster because there is still plenty of moisture in the ground, still busy on the work front up and down with machinery.

Cheers Wrighty.

Wrighty I knew you were busy as no posts but you have to Gel on when the weather is with you, personally we could do with some rain down here now to spirt the grass on a bit. Most men down here have made the most of there haylage and silage so they will echo the same request for some wet stuff as well.
Been in the veg plot today pulling out fat hen and other weeds which seem to spring from know where, the seed must lie dormant in the ground and they just spring up every where.
These are the four Beef bred Angus steers i have in my home padocks and they are doing the job my horses used to do in keeping the grass down so i can see Foxy when or if he comes round, not the two dung spreaders in the foreground, they are very good at that looking for any grain not digested by the steers after eating hard grub, they are out in the evenings and night as less flies about and in the barn during the day, cheers Buzzer.

Buzzer what some beauties ,i reckon they will be gone well before October, they are getting there by the rumps ,each ,that fat starting to show each side of the tails ,i have no idea how long you keep them on for ,just a bit big to get in the cattle truck with if one went down,i bet they are like stroppy teenagers,i used to like being around cattle especially a nice frosty morning, a nice ■■■ on,if they were out all night, their steaming bodies, not many will know what i am on about, cow pats steaming.and we would know where they were heading .MR BOLT.

ABBITIORS were a flowing production line, after THE BOLT they would be tipped out, slaughter man with ankle chain ,the hoist pulling it up by one leg, throat already cut ,guts opened, all the innards tumbling out, then they men one go to work, before you knew it they would be in the chill a nice half quarter, fore or hind ready for us drivers ,a few hours later, all ready chilled down to +1 loaded in to the back, fridge roaring way ,to match the temperature, custom ,and vet sealed, paper work done off to Dover to start all the hassle, off to RUNGIS IN Paris get zb about from a-sole to breakfast, get lied to,no sleep all ready been on the go for 20 hours + it never enden that is really the picture i get from those lovely beasts, credit to you. pdb.

PDB my mate always says to me that one of them steers would look good with a big skewer up his ass on a spit, funny I know where there is a spit roast rig a butcher built as they did that when his son got married, two days of gentle roasting he told me so sod that we will just stick to burgers.
On another completely different tack I was perusing the Farmers Weekly magazine I get from a mate one week old when he has read it and there was an article in it about that speed merchant Guy Martin who has just broken the speed limit with a tractor, a highly modified JCB fastrac which achieved 103.6mph this on an aerodrome in Yorkshire not down country lanes thank goodness. Today these tractors are very fast and pull heavy loads, is it right that the nipper that rowed up my haylage has not got a car licence yet he can pilot such a machine don’t make sense to me, Buzzer.

Haa,yes BUZZER the ox roast only been to one years ago ,sorry i just went off on a different tack, but so many people have no idea what happens and how get our burgers…from such good looking beasts…
As for GUY Martin, i have always rated him,god old mechanic ,hands as black as boots,no airs or graces ,got a massive pair ,fearless, would have made a good Euro driver…id have him in my lifeboat any time…pdb.

Just thinking about Wrighty carting that silage 5 miles bet it would be a quicker job if he could borrow that Fastrac but don’t expect he got the roads to get up to speed, Buzzer.

Dennis sometimes I wonder about you mate if Wrighty had five miles of ring fenced land he sure as hell would not be punching up and down the country with a semi low loader. at the moment he’s got plenty of variety what with the driving and a bit of farming as well, by the way what is the extent of your country estate now we are on the subject, Buzzer.

The “Dalesmen” are as tight as a crabs bum bum at 20 fathoms Buzzer ! They would skin a flea for it’s hide ! I was only jesting of course about the size of Wrighty’s farm :unamused: Ah! my bungalow is surrounded by 2 acres of woodland, Beech, Limes, Douglas fir,Ash and Sycamore and we did have what had been the finest walnut tree in the North of England until it was found to be shot through with disease so it had to be felled. The contractor who I got in to fell it told me he sold the good bit of the main ■■■■ to be used for veneering ! Cheers Dennis.
