Oily
I did 3 years in the 60.s working at Hartwell Tuning , Holdernhurst Road , Bournemouth (later De Haviland Road ) building fast Hilman Imps.
Not hijacking Buzzers thread but that brings back memories, I had a Hartwell Imp, went like ■■■■ off a shovel, front mounted rad, twin Strombergs, tweaked suspension and sports exhaust among other tuning upgrades. Would have been about 1973ish, seem to remember it jumped out of 2nd gear on the over-run, funny the things that you remember with the right prompt.
Scotland, what a view, supercalibre, Buzzer.
Nice one Buzzer, just a tad brighter guessing east coast somewhere.
Oily
Oily apparently it was on the road near Eyemouth if that makes any sense, cheers Buzzer.

" lived in Downton for 35 years" Hi Harvey, that jogged the marbles a bit, Downton Engineering garage on the left heading south(A338) were into race/rally tuning Minis, went through there quite a bit in the '60s en route to Hartwells of Bournemouth with Rootes cars, then through the forest to Soton Docks for Renaults and Simcas going north.
Oily
Hi Oily, sorry ,bit late in getting back to you.
A large part of the work they did was just polishing the ports, made a big difference.
Like Buzzer and others I had Minis, the best was an ex Macfisheries van, S engine sooped up, could never get rid of the smell but by the way I drove most passengers added enough to overcome it, Ha!!
Happy days, Harvey
Harvey I had a mini van also and it was back in the days when I still had motorcycle interests and had a Norton 88 engine and various other related parts floating about in the back of the van, but what I am building up to was that at that time we had some Dutch teenagers staying with us at home relatives of some one of the old man met during the 2nd world war. Anyway one of these girls who had very long legs had the hots for me but in those days us lads were more interested in getting the beer down our necks first and woman later.
Eventually it was home time and I had consumed about 8 or 9 pints so although not ■■■■■■ as we were used to drinking quantity I and her made our way home on the back roads through the forest, low and behold her hand came over the inside of my leg and I thought we are in here so pulled up in a quiet spot, shoving the Norton bits to one side we clambered into the back of the minivan and clothes were removed and so on but to no avail as the brewers droop overcame all my efforts but it was fun trying so much for the Anglo/Dutch relations. The end of there stay came and she wrote to me several times after that but nothing ever came of it, just another one of those Mary Hopkins moments from yesteryear, cheers Buzzer.

Had a 99 as well Harvey all in café racer trim they called it a Dommy racer back then, went on a day trip with the lads to Weymouth and bought it down there, paid with a cheque from me old man and the chap accepted that but folks were more trusting back then MTK 989 was the number, cheers Buzzer.
Bit of new season straw cart today, slippy stuff on that composite floor ont trailer, recon its going to be scarce later on. Checked steers in park last night still grazing that old grass but look well on it. Read several market reports and stores making good money still slight shortage so bodes well for later on, Buzzer.
Morning John,
Did you ever aspire to the SS Norton, 650 twin carb ■■?
This is my new friend, having a well earned rest. Harvey
Harvey never had a 650 ss but I knew a mate who had one and the number plate was SS 650 or 650 SS cant remember which way round now, Buzzer.

Oh! Buzzer you want banning off this site for letting the side down ! After 8 or 9 pints ( debateable !) of “watery” Scrumpy you couldn’t perform in the prime of your Youth ? and in the back of a Mini van ! Your talk of “shoving” is a bit suspect as well, shoving what were !
No wonder the Dutch seem glad to boot us out of the EU !! You must really have screwed it up ( sorry ! failed to screw it !!!)
Cheers Dennis.
