Buzzer:
Thanks to “snapper” keeping the mix of trucks and farming equal let me know if you run low on shallots as the store is fair bulging at the mo and more for me to process Andrew.
Well today the troops mustered at 10am to help move the bigger cattle home and run through the crush to worm then into new pasture which was three trips with the trailer and I must say it went like clockwork even to say Rolex like and all done bar the cleaning up in under two hours so well pleased, nice to have the help when needed, Buzzer.

49 cows then Buzzer, that keep’s you busy !

wrighty:
Morning Buzzer

Yes it’s me int waterproofs holding the Harris hawk, unfortunately this is now the standard clothing required until about May when the weather should pick up. We don’t eat rabbit but our regular rabbiting men from Doncaster seem to love eating em, and anything else that they shoot. Beef is the mainstay in our house probably because we have a plentiful supply, and because we know where it’s from and how it was reared…

Cheers Wrighty.

Am i reading that right then Wrighty £ 3800.00 for the ram,he must be a proper stud ! Never knew they
made that sort of money, expensive game this farming lark !

Dean when Wrighty reads that he will confirm that they can make upwards of K80 usually bought by a syndicate then they extract the sperm and do AI insemination but that is the same with bulls as if you watched “This Farming World” the bull did four jumps and they reckon it was worth K30 as they sell the ■■■■■ straws individually, science has got involved now as things move on in the Ag world. There used to be a fella round here 40 years ago who owned a Boar, a Stallion & a Bull and he was the mobile service for all your breeding needs on the farm, gone now but good old days, Buzzer.

A busy day on the farm today TB testing, 107 head in total so took about 5hrs and it’s all to go through again on Thursday reading the results.

So come on Wrighty, who bought this swaledale tup? Arthur Slack ? better still who sold it ? Doc Sowerby ? Cheers Bewick.

Dennis you sure seem to know the who’s who in the farming world up your end, money rubs shoulders with money as they say anyways got to go into the vaults to see if I can afford a new tractor having sold me old one yesterday to a Knick Knack, cheers Buzzer.

It was sold by Hutchinsons Valley farm and it was bought by J Richardson Ghyll House Dufton. A bit out of our price range we bought one off Harkers at Overthwaite, busy day today loaded int yard tipped Stirling now off up to Fort William then Uig Isle of Skye so should keep us going…

Cheers Wrighty.

Hi wrighty, another scenic trip for you, will it be Stirling and A84 and A85 to Crianlarich joining the A82 to Fort William then the A830(Road to the Isles) to Mallaig, ferry to Armadale on Skye, A851 to the A87 on to Portree then 17 mile to Uig(ferry port for The Outer Hebrides) pity the weather was’t a bit better for you but sure as hell beats the milk tanker  coming back the A87 over the bridge to Invergarry joining the A82 for Fort William and the way south, bad bit of road on Loch Lomondside (very tight).
Cheers
Oily

Aye Buzzer we don’t want to see a shot of one of Wrighty’s “screws” do we     We want to see a shot of this £90k specimen eh! The one with the Golden Fleece, 4 bollox and two dicks !       And who said that Farmers were poor ? they always pleaded poverty, have done for years but £90k for a tup :open_mouth: Just a an amusing aside there was a Farmer near Sedbergh ( Cattle Waggon man will confirm) who was a “big guy” among Rough Fell sheep, he was a well known Judge at the local Shows etc. The Rough Fell breed of sheep are only found in a 15 mile radius of Kendal and are not held in the same aura as Swaledales but the breeders of Rough Fell are just as keen and I do believe they have a better fleece than the Swaledales. Anyway, back to the tale ! Well this Farmer reckoned in this particular year that he had the finest Shearling or Aged Tup ( not sure which) and he could win every local show in the area for the breed that season. But the only problem was it had a lame leg ! so guess what he used to dose it with “Bute” so it was sound for the shows. :open_mouth: I’m not just sure how he went on but I was told the tale in confidence by another farmer ! Anything to win ! Cheers Dennis.

£ 90,000 Thats some serious money for a tup ■■ :open_mouth: Is that the term for a male ram ■■

Tup, Tip or Ram take your pick Dean ! But £90 K is not the top price ever paid for a Swaledale Tup IIRC and I’m sure Wrighty will confirm this. Cheers Dennis.

Here Dennis.

This Bute you speak of. My right leg is pretty lame. Would it do me any good?

If you go to your Vet David and ask him for some Phenylbutazone ( shortened to Bute!) tablets I’m sure that taking one or two prior to your running a marathon will have you jumping around like a two year old !! How do you think Buzzer kept his team “sound” ( and Himself) !! Best of luck Dennis.

Evening Oily

Had a good run up to Uig a bit wet and windy and not much to see as it came in dark heading towards the Kyle of Lochalsh, had a lie in on Tuesday morning so I could see a bit on mi way down. Loaded out of Stirling Wednesday afternoon and then back home for tea, aye what a life eh…

You’re right Dennis the most expensive Swale tup was sold at Kirkby Stephen auction about 2003, it made £101,000 and was sold by the aforementioned Arthur Slack, and to my knowledge non of it’s progeny have made much money. In Swaledale circles it was nicknamed Golden balls, which by all accounts it certainly didn’t have…

Cheers Wrighty.

Thanks for reminding me Wrighty  I would guess Slacky would have only given the buyer £5 “luck”( or £50 grand :open_mouth: ) and he probably knew the Tup was a Dud eh! Anyway, don’t give up trying ! there’s next years crop of lambs to look forward to and who knows one of your tup lambs will be the “diamond” you are searching for and you can buy Alice another giant Diamond  ! Cheers Dennis.

Bought this today on me way to Frome market clean as a whistle credit to the former owner being delivered next week, me old 390 gone to Ireland last Wednesday, The day did not start too well with a blowout on the borrowed Ifor Williams trailer so had to abort that idea and return home but only a mile into the journey. Went to Frome but nought there to suit my needs so home early and cleaned out chooks as it is going to pee down tomorrow Buzzer

s-l200.jpg

Well today was of mixed emotions, this morning went and bought 9 more pure Simmentals subject to TB testing tomorrow then went with haylage for the older steers and one was not well, frothy in the mouth and heavy to breath, decided to get it home but it was unsteady on its pins and dropped by the back of the trailer at which point I called the vet not cheap on a Sunday I might add but when she approached it got up and amazed us all and jumped the gate. We followed up and the vet managed to listen with a stethoscope to its breathing which did not appear to bad but it had a wild eye and she thought it had a mental problem, any ways I used my harpoon injector to sedate the beast and after five minuets it was down and the vet administered some injections but alas it stopped breathing and that was the end of that. This is a loss of an animal worth £900 plus the vet call out which will be at least £300 and £150 to dispose of the carcase but if you have livestock you sometimes have deadstock but something we can all do without in the farming world as Wrighty will tell you, on another note I sold me qwad bike for £1250 so that may just cover the cost of todays disaster, Buzzer

Evening all sorry bout the loss of one of your cows John,I have a question & bear in mind I know nothing about farming but instead of disposal can you not get it cut up into meat for the freezer ■■
Cheers Andrew
