Gazzer she salutes me every time we pass, was trained right from the beginning it’s easier that way.
Wrighty " snapper " is driving for PTM at Newbury he may save a bit on travelling but I have not filled the company photographer post just yet because I think he may have gone for greener grass that aint there but we shall see, any ways he worked his full notice so he may return. Watch this space Buzzer.
The grass is rarely greener on the other side, I’ve seen it with our company lads leave for a better job more money etc, only to land back six months later with their tails between their legs in all honesty there isn’t a steadier job than milk reload work.
A lot of lads have never done a dozen drops on a tautliner or any sort of flat work, they start on our job and think that it’s what haulage is, i’ll shut up now as I’m starting to sound old and grumpy although that maybe just the affects of lambing sheep…
Hi John sorry to hear about Molly, I also heard the story about Mark Viner, so I was quite pleased to see him when he came to stay at our guest house last year along with another old friend Danny Mgee, as a solstor driver you couldn’t have worked for a better boss, but I know what your saying as a subby.
Good morning Buzzer. I’m sorry of your loss. However many dogs you have lost it never gets any better. Get another. We lost our old boy in Dec lastyear . The house was empty. Took us three weeks. We now have an eight year old toy puddle. Ex breeding ■■■■■. Anyway enough of that. Lovely morning. I’m just going for a walk round my extensive estate. Hope all well with you. Regards Charlie
I know your well into horse drawn vehicles but I cant draw horses, here’s one of my weirder momments
Good afternoon DISPATCHER now look here if you don’t post some of your drawings on BMA’s thread I will transfer them from here, you are much better at it than you think so go on be brave, cheers Buzzer.
Buzzer i have got the twin nut plant stick,.i see you go to the gym on a regular basis, maybe, are you training for the "touchier toes event"with slight assistance ,about a 6/10 artistic impression,9/10 effort…seeing you get up will be the main score…
Thanks for the info on the ifor, i all ways thought it was overland, as i would see them in Austria en-route Graz?i have all ways had the habit of assuming the wrong thing about routes they went. surprised by VENICE…That Northern part of Italy i really do like, Bolzano ,MERANO TRENTO,If i had the dosh i would love to go back again all round that AREA. not on the tourist route, used to load apple juice, in 40 gallon drums, transported -20 it we would exit MERANO via the RACHEN pass in to AUSTRIA .look it up .beautiful and we got paid for it …
Thanks for the info Bullitt, of course I never went as I was the Fat Controller sat behind in the office driving a desk but back then we had 33 artics on the road and it was very busy but loved every minute of it. Remember going to my accountant one day and he said you cant stop driving yourself until you have ten trucks which actually is what happened with the aid of two or three dedicated subbie’s and we built the fleet up to its peak. Bosnia was not all easy as insurance was a pain for a start because they don’t really like you going headlong into a war zone, apart from that you need sensible blokes behind the wheel because without that you can very quickly get stuffed, I am not saying it was honey sweet all the time and we had the occasional bust up with certain drivers but on the whole they were superb. Do believe most enjoyed working for us during that spell going to Bosnia as it was different to run of the mill work and challenging as well especially overland, would I do it all again you bet I would.
Now then Charlie at least I can still can touch my toes and could do maybe two press ups if push came to shove, been for a stroll round the village this afternoon with the Boss and called in to the pub for a pint which is rare for me nowadays so you see Charlie I do a bit of exercise now and then so there, we could have a little test at the August bash if you like to see who is kidding who just for a pint you understand or maybe you will have second thoughts, cheers Buzzer
Great stuff on here lately…
Nice pics of the Bosnia run… Is that the " Bristol Bullit " posting?
Nice to see Charlie One and the old grump known as TIR Tone back in the fold…
A nice farming reference / pun there.
Wrighty. We’ve an orange weather warning here and it’s actually snowing as I write this , so get your head down , or at least get Uncle John to send you a decent hat
Sorry to hear about your Molly JD… Only dog lovers would know how much they mean to you.
Very interesting your comment , back a bit , about left hookers and the lack of experience in that dark art these days.
Something I’d not realised.
In my freelance days I’d regularly swap from right to left as I’m sure many on here did. My preference was always for left. Even in the uk.
I always recall when on for Frankie Allen , there were two left ■■■■■■ Berliets. I had one for about 6 months and loved it… But there was many a mishap with new drivers going in the ditch . Back then new drivers would have to go on a test drive with a " senior " driver… Can’t remember who it was but you might? I remember one lad passing that little test and being sent out in a Berliet the next morning… He got as far as Bishops Waltham and thwacked a telegraph pole. Came back on a low loader…oops
Right Buzzer i might be old enough to be your father but I could arm wrestle you any time. August it is.I’m starting training tomorrow. Be afraid. Be very afraid.!Regards Charliel
Now for something a little different for our regulars, you all know I like my driven horses and I got these two pictures from my FB, not just because it’s horses but they are at work from days gone bye when most things were horse powered. One collecting the milk from farms and I know the churns are not 11 gallon like we had in my youth but there is some considerable weight on that trolley, it is in Holland so not many hills and I bet the horse is glad of that. The second looks like a fruit and veg round maybe not quite so heavy but that was the way it was done back then before this hectic world we live in now that is todays work place, think I would have liked it better back then Buzzer
Well it’s not quite Bosnia but it were a bit white up ere this morn, thanks for the warning baldrick I’m back at work tomorrow so hopefully will escape any snow. Been a decent day after the snow melted good to see lambs enjoying the sun on their backs…
Wrighty where exactly are you ( place name ) so I can look it up in me 1949 AA map book, looking at that picture of Alice you would have to be on the alert chain harrowing that bit of ground on a tractor else you would be upside down. Aint it nice that old Balders gives you the heads up on the weather you are about to get, bet you want to shoot him some times.
Charlie I am in permanent training so I aint afraid of you, like a commando I am mate so train hard.
Balders I also drove one of those Berliet’s up from Two loo’s in France through the night, like you never driven a LHD before it was Bernie’s truck one of four when I was on there. As mentioned on here before you had to be careful with the Telmars that were fitted on them, they weighed half a ton but they were worth there weight in gold. My Mandator engine had seized and Bernie came to rescue me, he drove through the night to get to me and was knackered and he wanted to be back Saturday night to take Marie was it who worked in Truckline whom he was courting at the time, he was on the bunk with one eye open to start with but that did not last long, my god another MH moment but it was fun back then not like today eh cheers Buzzer.
We are about two miles outside Hawes nearest hamlet is a place called Sedbusk, we are along a long lane with four gates to open from the road so as you can imagine we don’t get too many visitors…
Always appreciate baldrick’s weather reports, tend to be more accurate than the met office but to be fair you just get used to the weather and get on with it… Were not that far behind you we actually chain harrowed two fields yesterday to flatten the mole hills, then we can see where they are working so we can catch the annoying little buggers !
