You up to DK again Snapper? Glad to see Folkestone still open, had some good weekends there back in the day, and not too extortionate to park there. Am surprised ‘they’ haven’t found it by now and ruined it.

Hi short walk, not up in Denmark this week one of the others up there.Folkestone still going strong well parking is & I do like the town can get yourself sorted for the week, shopping etc…
Taliban have found it & have to pay same as everyone & they not trashed it yet!!!

Balders thanks for the modelling pics although you do look a lot older but that can be said of us all I suppose, also thanks for the " Katy " storm you sent us last night boy did it blow, don’t think Wrighty got the worse of that one just us in the South, loads of dead wood blown out the tree’s but luckily no serious damage here to report.
Shame we wont be getting many more pictures from “snapper” Morrison as he is working his notice and leaving for greener pastures again, cheers Buzzer.

Evening Buzzer

Yesterday was a bit wild up here, wind, rain, hailstones, thunder and lightning and a little bit of sunshine. Most of our available buildings were full of sheep and lambs, thankfully today as been a bit better one or two heavy showers but mostly dry.
Something we are trying for the first time this year are lamb macs, and so far they are proving very useful and being made of bio degradable plastic should eventually drop of the lambs and disappear. We are about a third of the way through at the moment, so hopefully by the weekend we should have the job bossed, will post a few pics when I get the chance to take some…
Are you carrying on driving Snapper ? or have you seen the light and bailing out…

Cheers Wrighty.

Morning Wrighty, yes I will still be driving can’t do anything else & too young to retire lol
Regards Andrew

Well it’s been a grand day up ere sunshine and warmth after a fairly hard frost, lambings going quite well long hard days but certainly worth the effort.
A few more days and they will start to slow down, as well as lambing we had a belting pure limi bull born this afternoon up and sucked within the hour, just how we like em…

Cheers Wrighty.

Hi Wrighty, one switched on dog you have there?
I can just remember my dad with his collie,he called it Bob. Dad only needed to click fingers a point and Bob would sit and wait,in the field worked on the whistle

Suffice to say I’ve had collie rejects,ie gun shy, or sheep shy? But made good house dogs and pets,

Good luck with remainder of lambing, regards ,mick.

Trunker08 if you look really hard there is a man on top of that hill in the distance with a bonio, the dog has obviously been to sniff savers, JD.

Hello john just looking through this forum of your trucks.great pics of your old f88s and f89s.remember seeing them as a nipper when was out with my dad.great looking trucks with nice colour scheme.didnt get the chance to drive an f88.f10 was my first truck i drove.syms of calne would of been the main haulier from my home town when growing up.living and working out of ireland 20 years now,as you can guess im a converted v8 man now .still think the f88 best looking truck made.great pics john keep them coming

Hi Kev143 who was your dad ? you missed out not driving an F88 in there day they were the business and I remember when I first drove a 240 F88 how quiet it was and how effortlessly it pulled, I passed my HGV and that was back in '73 in Cornwall and the chap I worked for had a brand new 110 Scania and also a he bought a one year old F88, he used to load straw up here and take it back down to the farmers and I was accompanying the driver of the 88 and he was out of time so I got to have my first go, always remember the lever for overdrive and its green light to tell you if it was in high or low, 16 gears so it never struggled up the hills, don’t know if I was in awe of the motor or worried about the 8 layers of straw on the back and hitting something as it was at night. Later when I started out first with a 16 ton Albion super Clydesdale and after with a couple of AEC Mandators I soon bought a couple 240 F88’s second hand 5yo they gave good service but were a bit prone to head gasket problems, they had a grove on the heads and they had to be perfect else you had problems, best to get them re milled to be sure and of course they were all individual on them motors, after that had some F89’s bigger motor 330 pulled like a train but of course cant be compared with todays trucks, every thing has moved on a pace from when I started out but I have enjoyed my life involved in transport and on the roads of Britain and Europe but glad ime not involved today, too much red tape cheers Buzzer.

hi john, dont think you would know my dad hjs name is mike wheeler he drove for rhm then dalgetys in calne.he bought f12 in the mid 80s doing bulk tipper work.she was a flying machine.he retired 6 years ago and glad hes not driving now.i started with eadys in east grafton in 92 when i was 21 .i bought a f12 pff david when i was 23 .im back driving for a lad now.i remember chatting tothe lad who drove your last f88 i think it could of been near bordeaux.she was a credit to you and the driver.only found out when came on here you had her sold.some differnce with trucks today big horse power less speed and no character

Kev remember Eadys well creamy yellow couloured with some pale blue, I used to do a lot of synthetic rubber from ISR at Fawley to the old airfield hanger at Yatesbury, think that was run Symes of Calne. Had two motors on that doing two loads a day and one of salt back, knew every bump in the road and as you must know the road we used went by the little road that went to East Grafton, funny as the price of diesel then was 72p a gallon back then here is a picture of my first driver Stan Mathews RIP with my first F88 240 at the café on top of the hill just outside Yatesbury on the A4, good old days long gone cheers Buzzer.

She looks well john .id be in my element behind the wheel of her.is that the ridgeway cafe john.i can remember syms having the hangars at yatesbury.thats a good while back.i remember the boys at volvos (syms had the dealership then) if they any problems with the 88s they couldnt sort they ring eadys lad to see to get round it.was the 240 a better motor then the 290 john.anuncle of mine drove for syms.

The 88 in the picture was bought new by Sibleys in Southampton but they mostly ran rigid tippers but had this on I think OCL containers, the driver was one greasy bugger as I remember having the inside of the cab steam cleaned as well.
That was the ridgeway café now you jogged the grey cells, we stopped there every day about 1pm after tipping the second load, there were about six regular trucks on that job and was no good all rushing back to reload as there were only two bays at Fawley so we had an agreement we went to diesel up and two went and loaded then there was no crush. cheers Buzzer.

That be a good days work there john.a time you could make a few pound.i finished with my own in 2001i was pulling for carna at that time.went back driving for lads.how many trucks you running mow john.was at the fridges myself for good while mostly beef.good times but hard going.you couldnt get away with haalf of it these days

When I first started with trucks I ran them from my old mans farm, we had a diesel tank there and here is Stan Mathews filling up with my other F88 in the background, got my first O licence from there but not a lot of room so had to move out, Buzzer.

He.llo john the 88s look nice in the green.are they last trucks you had that colour before going over to the blue.say lot of the work then was all flatbed work.remember my dad pulling flatbeds for years.the roping and sheeting a dying art these days.how much the jobs changed.was the 290 f88 a better motor then the old 240s.you some great pics on here john of your trucks over the years.

Kev143 those two 88’s had names the first was “The Incredible Hulk” the second “Yanky Doodle Dandy” then we went to two tone blue and red chassis which I still think was the best colour sceme but too expensive to paint trucks when you could buy white and stripe with plastic times move on eh.

Gardeners corner = busy today and planted all me runner and French climbing beans into pots about 150 of each as expect some wont fire up and fail me, put them in me neighbour’s green house till they are ready for transhipping into the garden. Nowadays I only grow spud’s bean’s and beetroot the rest I don’t bother with but maybe put some greens in later on. Was warm here today early on but turned nippy at 4pm.

Farming department= finished the fodder beet now just giving a few beef nuts, yesterday was the first time and they were slow to eat as they were not used to them but today different kettle of fish, they were gone in a flash, cheers Buzzer.
