Thanks for the pic Mark R like to see that Gary has washed the roof as well as the rest, they used to get mucky when we had eminox fitted especially when wet, cheers Buzzer.
Yeah, the picture came out ok considering it was taken through the upstairs office window!..and yes, it was especially clean…I have a few more to put on when I get time.
Rgds MR.
Why on earth Tone, would Billy Liar give you his business card…unless you stole it and wanted to use it for your own nefarious devices!
Gazzer this word Nefarious is that Spannish or have you got an Oxford Concise Dictionary for evening reading, Buzzer.
PS. Tone used to work for me and he definitely would not understand that word, just try and keep it simple shag.
Yeh you,re right Buzzer…ain’t got a clue…
Just looked it up
not a very nice word is that.
Can’t understand why that word would used in the same sentence as a certain gentleman.
Anyway going back to your question Gazzer, Mark gave me his business card during the infancy of
his time with CFP / SLS…
We shipped out together to Caen one afternoon…him in his car and me in tractor unit C789BPO to collect a
new trailer from Chereaus at Avranches.
I stayed in a hotel with Mark and in the morning after brekkie went and got the trailer.
Now if you,ve ever collected a tr. from there you,ll know that on arrival they take your unit ( wasn,t happy )
and bring it back with the new tr…think I went to Spain for its first load.
Now I am confused, Charlie I bet you did not know your mate Mappo was sleeping round. Just when you were telling us you used to cuddle up together on the ferry to Le Havre to keep warm now that’s a bit different to sharing a room in a hotel with Billy Liar, and then breaking bread with him in the morning. It turns out Tone is just a slapper and has duped you into thinking he was yours and yours alone. Now I bet that comes as a bit of a shock and if I were you i’de keep control of the ■■■■■ string’s in any subsequent business deals or he may double cross you again, Buzzer.
PS. Be careful as I here he has a good brief that resides in Wellow who would tie you up in knots in no time at all.
That night in a hotel with Billy Liar obviously rubbed off on Tone. A flash lesson in sharp practice over a large vin rouge. Set Tone up for the rest of his life!
Hi JD

Hi Steve, good to see you have found this thread as it brings back so many memories of time gone bye. Actually Davies International thread was started by another Bristol lad and ex driver the one and only Paul “Who” , he still call’s in every now and then but I have not seen Mark since he left. Give him our regards from all at DIT and tell him it would be nice to see him sometime. What is he doing now ? think he went on car transporters when he left us which was a shame as he was a good worker for me and you could put your money on him especially when you were up against a deadline. Cant remember what year he left but I bet it would shock me, my two boys run the company now and I am right out of it. When Mark was here we ran 33 trucks but that has now been cut to 15 which are all Scania new in the last three months of last year, we also have a 20 thousand square foot warehouse today which we never had in Marks time. Anyway cant wait to see some more pics when you find time to post them, all the best for now , JD aka Buzzer.
Hi Steve. I think Mark had recently left the army when he started. Always kept his ID tag hung around the CB mike in the scania. the scania he had from new and a long time was G88 XBK which I think ended up in Astrans colours. May be wrong here as it was a very long time ago, but believe he thumbed it down from Bristol, had the interview in the kitchen which was normal then. By the time that was all sorted, too late to go home. Came downstairs the next morning dressed for school and wondered who this bloke was a kip in a sleeping bag on the sofa. There weren’t many days when there wasn’t a driver using the shower or having breakfast, dinner or tea at home.
As Dad said, you could put your shirt on Mark getting it there. He used to love the Army work to Croatia and Bosnia and was one of the first Davies drivers to venture out there. Never liked running with anyone else, was his own man. Used to be into martial arts as well, all coming back now!!
Pretty sure he left circa 93-94 when the last of the Scanias went and were replaced with the first FH’s. If you see him, please send him my regards, he last popped in the old yard and was on for Ralph and we left the old yard in 2001 so quite a while now.
Regards, Horry.
Davies International SAGA Holidays Incorporated.
How about putting a few of your drivers on compulsory leave and canvassing for volunteers to fit bums on seats for a nostalgic trip to a far flung place? Room for shotgun attendees (those with a licence no more) to remanice(?) the hours to these far flung places. Two weeks should do it for a one week job with the regliar blokes! Just think of the customer relations and glowing praises that would come forth!
Names please for potential volunteers:…
Hi Steve , you still running motors?
I used to bump into you on the old seafrance boat when you was pulling for tipro,
Saw this on face book and it made me chuckle, Buzzer.
Hi Mate
The Bullit is on a tanker now six wheeler i believe local work but i can safley say on his behalf that both he and i miss the european work.
The problem is those days are gone by that we knew and i don,t think i could conform with the abundance of legislation that there is these days.
Mark is often saying he should get in and see you perhaps he and i should jump in the car and fly down one weekend.
Glad ta see you still have Homer working for you he must have been on a while now
Worked with Frank Derek and in Ian on Tipro good men you could always count on em.
I,ll keep in touch mate and will catch you one fine weekend Cheers Steve

Hi Steve, hope you are well. Yes about time he got down here! Might as well do a quick trip to get it out of his system and confirm how the job is now.
Can remember some 20 years ago going out on a jolly to do a changeover with Mark. Was supposed to be Le Havre. Rang base, told to go to Corbiel. Got there, told to go to Macon. Got to Macon, finally met at Pont d’Ain! Think he had a hub bearing go on the trailer or something like that. Anyway, that was how it was then, magical mystery tours!
Yes Homer still here, got to be four years now on this stint. Still see Ian now and then. Was on for us, then went back to PMP, then onto bulk again, now back at PMP!
Not seen Ray Sampson for a few years now, when he came on for Buzzer, he had a 113, hang on… G156 YTR? Was the first Owner Driver on here to have his own brand new trailer. His son Dennis worked for us for a few years, was quite young when he came on but had no doubt he would be capable due to his upbringing. Good people to work with and used to have a good laugh with them.
Anyway, tell Mark I hope he has a valid passport as he probably will have to wait a while for a new one according to the news today. Keys will be under the grill for him, tell him to ring when tipped!
Regards, Horry…
Oh look !!! Socks and sandals
When I lived in Romsey, I used to park my truck like that, one wheel on the kerb and wash the truck.
Some nice neighbour called the Plods and said I had a truck on the pavement.
Luckilly the Plod that came lived up the road from me when we were kids. Nice chat, cup of tea and no action. Grrr. I knew who it was but couldn’t do anything about it but I never helped her again when her car wouldn’t start!
