Def credit to the spray painter!

We’ll see if that tempts Mappo to comment Johnnie.

this is correct, when i drove for Ralph 20 years ago i ran down to Spain on my first trip with a few of the boys one of which was a Southampton Davies F12 driven by Shirley. i took one look at his number plate a new exactly what it meant. i have always wondered if there was a traveller connection with Davies. we (Showmen) have always used this saying, it really means run away

Hi Jimmer “GEL ON” means exactly that, in other words get your ■■■ in gear and don’t spare the horses, I do believe it is a local vernacular and is some thing which just stuck as with many of the nick names we have given to drivers over the years. Not only that all our trucks have had GEL number plates for some considerable time now, some on there 3rd and 4th new truck so that is relevant also cheers Buzzer.

Hi it is [zb] I found this definition!!!

  1. gel
Romany Gypsy word, meaning to go, or to leave. Romany is not a written language, so the exact spelling is not certain. Often used in conjunction with the word ‘on’, and can be used as an equivilent to ‘■■■■ off’ - i.e. ‘gel-on’.
Used mainly by Romany Gypsys rather than Irish Gypsys, especially in the south of England.
“We found a stopping place but had to gel when the gavvers turned up.”

“I swear boy if you don’t gel-on you’ll get yourself hurt.”

“Your gunna have to gel bruv, me old man’s on his way back and he’s on the warpath.”

Regards Pat

Hi ERF MAN I am not actually of traveller blood but know a lot that are as is with the case that if you drive horses for a pastime they automatically assume that you are of the bretheren, also I have a white Isuzu pick up and most of them raise there hand to you when passing although I am not officially in the club as I don’t have an amber flashing light on the cab roof ! cheers Buzzer.

Thought that might be the case. Nice fleet of yours, i remember your F88 down to Spain, The new Scanias are very nice, saw one coming off Sheppy a couple of weeks ago. well done.

Do you know anyone who does a nice line in smooth tarmac driveways John?

What do you require Gazzer 1/4 inch cover or delux at 1/2 inch will cost more but worth it in the long run, no good for parking tractor units on especially if the sun has got his hat on better go for block paving if this is the case, cheers Buzzer.

I’ll enquire at D.B. (Dave Bocock) Blocks Ltd. then.

Hi Balders good to have you back, has Mappo been with you as he has not posted in ages perhaps Fergie and I had better start taking the urine again to tempt him back in to circulation. It is the quiet time in the allotment and I have just done a chicken changeover the old ones went in the veg plot till the new ones started to lay and I must say they did a wonderful clear up job eating all the weeds including the fat hen no pun intended they have all gone now so better have a clear up ready for next season.
As you can see we have a new lot of trucks coming on stream and I must say I have never seen such excitement in the camp over new trucks by the drivers ever before, been out with one driver when he was getting training as they are very different to the Volvos and they are pretty awesome. much different to the GUY Big J that I started in.
Surpose you are getting ready for Crimbo a time I aint fond off if ime truthful but its the last one before I become a true pensioner and will be joining Charlie One at the old folks club, any way keep looking in as I enjoy your wit and humour not many of us got that any more see you soon, cheers Buzzer.

My My JD… Halfway down page 2… What’s going on.
I haven’t been with Sir Tone of T.I.R. , but I have long suspected him of leading a double life. possibly connected to the fashion industry in a consultancy role… OR maybe International espionage. he did once tell me whilst feeding Doubloons into a slot machine on the Love Boat that he had at one time worked for MI5. He retracted that statement in the morning saying, " Sorry ! I meant MFI "

The Scannies look great and I looked at the interior on line. quite something, and amazing how much trucks and trucking have changed in a relatively short time since the Big J’s , Mandator, and Foden days you speak of. it makes you wonder what it will be like 40 years on…

Reference the PGS logo… It’s got my vote.

Yes, Christmas nearly here, I’m not a fan either. it’s not been the same since the Morecambe and Wise Christmas specials finished. Happy Birthday for whenever. I just made the six o… I don’t know where all those years went, what about you?
Funny you mentioned John Smith as I was going to ask how he was…a right character, I guess age catches up on us all… TTFN. Bladders…

Bladders■■? Ha, that’s got a ring to it…

Hi Kev that was us about 11 ish always walk that bit over the bridge and it is quite noisy which is good training for the hosses. RTD no paint thrown at us that’s white sweat but after a few more miles that disappears and they get a hot wash down when they get home to get it all out, cheers Buzzer.

Luvvley Jubbley at work, cheers Buzzer.
