David Croome 80's onwards

North Devon meat actually burned down not closed down. It was about 11 years ago I think. We pull for various now , all west country though.
Yeh the world is safer with Pete in the woods. He had another child 4 years ago. All a bit unexpected.

Ex Croome I think, probably sold without the body as this has some sort of make shift one.I see this about on a regular basis in Kyrenia North Cyprus.Paul

Nice one Paul, looks like one of the old ‘240’ series of L-N Reg’s. Looks in surprisingly good nick for its age. Must be the Cypriot sunshine! Croome used to have 3 vehicles operating a weekly London-Cyprus-London service for a garment customer, I dare say one of the latter Bulgy/MK/SB hauliers who operated them on this lane managed to trade one on.

I have also seen a black FH12 rigid the same as this one,it has a solid body on it though. It wasn’t until I saw it again the other day I realised it might be an Ex Croome truck.Paul

hope this pic gets on post, i took this at scan trucks south mimms around 1986 , driver was well pi… off, think it was trailer problems, ( this is where crane freuhauf used to be before scan trucks took over the yard )

put some pics up of Michael Croomes motors photos not Davids, so deleted 'em.

This is micheal croomes fleet. It’s nothing to do with David croome. They do mostly Italy still employing uk drivers.

sorry

sorry

No need to apologise. They were all part of the same company until the brothers went their own ways.

Hello to all the Croome guys, it’s nice to know that some of you are still running. All the best…

Newer Volvo FH ‘POD’ Fleet and some of the regular drivers around 2002. Some of the drivers switched back to the older ‘Globetrotter’ Fleet as they became available (also shown) Again I’ll stand corrected for those whose brain cells are still fully functional!
360 - R67 GKM - Albert Smith
361 - R71 GKM - Any takers?
362 - P620 - Malcolm Sanders (244)
363 - P621 - Dave Banks
364 - P622 - Bob Chester
365 - R72 GKM - Colin Bell
366 - John (ex-watchmaker-■■■-truckdriver: an interesting Career change)
367 - Sean Steedman (254)
368 - Nick Doherty (256)
369 - Steve Marsh (John Marsh’s son)
370 - Clive Brown
371 - Malcom ‘Sergeant’ Wilson (242)
372 - Bill Arnold
The 101, 132, 161 and 181 series were eventually sold to Fairground or Circus outfits and I believe a couple went down to a Greek buyer (186/187). 134 I think ended up in Bulgaria or Romania. Some of the 240/250 series were eventually sold to Croome Franchisee hauliers based in Bulgaria, Serbia, and Macedonia (notably 240, 246, 247, 248, 249, 250, 258 plus some of the 360’s in the end). The cab of 362 was pretty much destroyed in a nasty accident (I think in Austria). The Bulgarian driver (who was not at fault) managed to survive, how, nobody knows, as the cab was a complete wreck. Ray and Barry Acott completely rebuilt the cab to its former glory (with a little help from Jimmy Acott on the electrics!) We also had our fair share of ‘overturns’. Steve Price in 135 in Germany I believe, and I recall a Lithuania driver in N.Ireland doing the same with a full load of 2nd hand clothing. Messy. James was ‘on-call’ at a BBQ we were all at when he got the call from the N.Ireland constabulary. I remember his face draining of colour!

Think Chris Mynard had 361 to start with now my brain is working…

According to my records ,these were the other reg’s,
365 R64 WKE
366 R65 WKE
367 R68 WKE
368 R69 WKE
369 R73 WKE
370 R72 WKE
371 R79 WKE
372 R76 WKE
373,374,375,376 Were S134 -137 VKK

377 ,378,379 Were the same spec but were flagged to southern ireland almost from new ,so they could be T reg can anyone fill in the gaps?

Looks like Croome’s wagon has made it on the news again! Not sure if the wagon was involved but its in the center of the picture?

Good Day All, not been on here for awhile.

Attended a Croome reunion couple of weeks ago, held at the Abbey Hotel on Sheppey. Set up by Carol Downes, Husband Colin and Dave Rapley. I only found out late so no chance to message out. Good turn out with John Jones, Laszlo Fuzes, Mike Thomas, Martin Dobbie, Tony Merry, Mick Marshall, Ron Seymour, Dave Barber, John Chapman and Ian MacDonald in attendance. Office bods included myself, Rebecca Ballard, Marie Cruise, Carol Downes, Kerry Down, Kelly Nixon and Chris King.

Good evening, much banter and many photos. Best connection point is the Croome Facebook page (I’m jot a facebookite though). Believe another event is being planned for near Christmas. Will make sure I post a note ahead of this.

All the best.

Hey Matt. Heard all about it but unfortunately for quite a few of us it came at too short a notice. If they/anybody are planning another more notice would be much appreciated.
Hope all well with everyone that attended. Cheers jnr.

Will do chap. Everyone was in fine fettle and good spirits. The laugh was we all looked much better than we did while working there. Even Laszlo, like a fine wine.

Will get the word out ahead of the next do (as long as I hear in good time meself).

Now back to the Eurovision song contest. Freakin viewing!
