DAF XF - help needed

Coffeeholic:
I drive an XF and have done for the last few months and I don’t find a problem with a blind spot low down, higher up from the two mirrors on the mirror arm and the A frame yes but not lower down. If a car is over taking me or simply beside me in queuing traffic I can always see it in at least one of the mirrors and/or out of either the side window or the front screen. It’s just a matter of adjusting the mirrors properly. I get back into it after someone else has used it and the mirrors are adjusted to see anything but what you need to, great if you forget who you work for as all you can usually see is the name on the side of the trailer.

I never even thought about the XF having a blind spot until I read this thread a couple of days ago and on my way back home over the last couple of days I was checking time and time again while being overtaken and I never lost complete sight of any vehicle as they went past me, whether it was a motorbike, car, van or whatever, and the same applied to cars stopped beside me, so I have to say no, I don’t find the XF has a blind spot for vehicles down by the passenger door at all.

Thank you Neil. For a moment there I was wondering if I really was the special K super-trucker that gobby was making me out to be, but my faith has been restored that I am in fact just an average trucker that knows how to set mirrors up properly before setting off. Either that, or you are a super-trucker as well. :open_mouth:

as much as i hate to admit it, having just had 8 weeks driving one of these god awfull xf’s i’d have to agree that in this particular situation you would’ve seen the car in the kerb mirror had you looked, having said that, for your foreman to say there is no blind spot is ridiculous as you’d only see the car once you’d got very close to it in the kerb mirror and this extending your probation period bit is just bollox!

about a year ago i had a similar thing happen on the m62 where they doing roadworks just passes the eastbound split for the m1,we come into roadworks in lane 1 but as they were using the hard shoulder as a running lane we were then in a sense in lane 2,truck in front indicates to move into lane1[hard shoulder, but he hadnt seen polo that had come down slip road and had run alongside him due to speed cam[50 mph limit],he moves, hits her and she then commes spinning out the front of the truck heading for the central reservation, ive no idea whether in the spin if she hit accelorator or car dug in but it then came back across carriage way, struck the front corner off my truck[i was stationary by then] and went back across carriage way.
coppers attented but didnt get involved as accident in motorway cammeras, driver admited his fault,no one was injured, but obviously girl in polo was shook up[she offered to pay for damage shed caused to truck.
details sorted with hatos , i was told nothing to do with me,i just happened to be in wrong place at wrong time, never heard any more until a month ago.
got a letter from girls solicitor saying id agreed to be her witness[never heard orspoke to her since accident] as she was taking seeking compensation for her multiple injuries caused in accident,i know sometimes injuries show up later, but multiple injuries, think its more solicitors than her.
the 2 intresting things too me were the girl seen the indicator come on but because they were using hard shoulder as lane 1 she had knowhere to go.the 2 nd was by having a 50 mph limit in my opinion its also caused the accident as cars normally come down slip and then fly up inside and are gone but because of 50 mph limit she just ran alongside front of truck

stupid question…

… why dont people angle the kerb mirror slightly forward so that you can see the front corner■■?

theres four mirrors on the passenger side… well atleast on my 95XF there is… the bottom mirror, on the arm, is aimed down towards the tank and that covers the front wheel. I never have a problem with a blindspot on the passenger side.

Saying that… just wait I bet something will bloody happen

in that case, can you please explain the deep gauge in the bumper/step on the n/s on your current vehicle and also the gauges on the fuel tank on your previous vehicle :unamused:
