Czech Accident Fine

HomoFaber:
Second thing, city transport companies across CZ and SK have had a system in place whereby fare dodgers who do not pay the fine on the spot are reminded once (typically after ~year), then hear nothing and after 10yrs receive a nice letter from court or bailiff demanding to pay fine + late charges or face execution.

Blimey, that seems a bit severe! :open_mouth:

We are a cruel bunch on here Homo Faber posts some good stuff as does Orys and we just attack his spelling

Here is another bit I spotted!

You’ll probably receive a letter to remind you but what more happens is purely up to the guy who’ll get the papers to hands - unpredictable, but 500czk is not really worth chasing too much (the cost of extortion would probably be higher than that).

Sorry HF, it is called English humour and your Czech is much better than my English and my Czech :stuck_out_tongue:

the Finn,s have no bank sorting code by the way,(OR did not have then)

Oh yes they do! And they did then too
I came here in '94 and the banking system was already WAY ahead of the UK’s.

Regarding the original post, if you can get the full IBAN / SWIFT account number of the recipient it shouldn’t cost any more than a transfer to another UK bank, if you use the regular internet interface to your bank account. At least that’s the way here, I buy stuff for example from Germany occasionally, and the payment is handled in exactly the same way as paying local bills. I bet it’s the same in the UK - unless you go into an actual physical branch office and get a member of staff to do it for you, that’s bound to cost more…

I suppose being serious for a second, Paypal may work, you only need an email address don’t you? We were paid for some JAWA parts recently from Latvia.

 that’s a good one  suggest that to CZ govt, they’re quite keen on saving right now, with ideas like this you’ll be appointed a consultant to finance minister

right…stopped laughing now… that’s actually very good idea, it would be really convenient if you could deal with authorities via paypal… in CZ, SK etc they (authorities) don’t even accept cards…

anyway, by no means offended by your banter I checked with Oxford dictionary what went wrong and:

execution. Law: seizure of the property or person of a debtor in default of payment

So none of you went to Oxford then, huh?

I’ll wear sackcloth tomorrow for mistaking ā€œextortionā€ and ā€œexactionā€.

PS: that Ā£30 foreign transfer fee at UK banks is bloody annoying. There’s EU rule that says private transfers up to 10,000e with BIC IBAN and SHA condition are free of charge… All the more the A4 form to be filled in when all you need is 4 boxes

You’re obviously with a wrong bank. In my bank (HSBC) I can do it online and it’s easy. Still much too expensive, so I am not using it (I am not sending money too Poland too often anyway), but it’s about 11, not 30.

Some banks had even a free transfer to Poland, so I guess to CZ and SK as well. There is for example a special bank account targeted at Polish people in Clydesdale bank with Polish-speaking staff and transfers are said to be free, although it’s worth to read small print. Still much better than 30 or even 11 though.

As for the original poster: despite Rob’s K objections I think I might be able to help. I am pretty sure RIA allows you to pay your tickets in Poland, as on Polish tickets you have a bank account numbers. If you got the bank account number, you should be able to do it for you Czech ticket as well.

It takes up to two days and costs 5 quid regardless of amount.

…
But just checked on their website and they do not Czech republic.

…but just checked Western Union, you can also send money to the bank account, and they DO CZ.

It will cost you (for 500 KĆ„Ā) 4.90 GBP.

:open_mouth: something new to me… maybe the cops are no longer taking cash? something to fight bribery??

I’ve been reading in Polish paper that some new deals between EU Countries started about mutual accepting and executing the fines from each other. If UK is now included, that bad news for me… It was very handy when in Poland with my UK-registered car to be able to overtake the whole bunch of another cars when they were slowing down for speed camera :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:
