Cyclists

Should of opened the door twice on him!!!

if he got the corner of the door he will have a reight egg on his head, lol.

To be fair if I was cycling along minding my own business and a someone opened their door on me I’d be pretty ■■■■■■ off.

Assuming this happened in daylight a cyclist on a bike isn’t that hard to see, sorry but you’ll just have to put it down to experience and move on.

How did the police come to be involved ?

Highway Code, Rule 67, (in the part that relates to cyclists):-
Look well ahead for obstructions in the road, such as drains, pot-holes and parked vehicles so that you do not have to swerve suddenly to avoid them. Leave plenty of room when passing parked vehicles and watch out for doors being opened or pedestrians stepping into your path.

Rule 239 for drivers.
you MUST ensure you do not hit anyone when you open your door. Check for cyclists or other traffic.

At best it’s 50/50 IMO.

I remember being reminded to leave a car doors width gap when passing parked traffic, when possible during the pre-test driving lesson I had. The point was further rammed home after being told I just may mow down a relative. That made me nervous, so then I was told I had to “make progress”, so then I didn’t know what to think! So now I don’t think at all…

Wouldn’t minding your own business also involve looking out for people who might be about to open a vehicle door?

My lad, many years ago, was in a rush to get to something or other and opened the car door with out waiting for me to tell him it was OK and opened the door right in front of a…push chair. Now had that been road side, as was his seating position after my second was born, the result could have been very different. And what about people who might emerge from between parked vehicles?

On a stretch of road I cycle to work that is about a mile long and has a cycle lane along most of its length, there were at least ten parked cars/vans along it. Whilst I was passing one of the parked cars a bus driver passed me very very closely and pipped at me, I looked over at him and he was gesturing and shouting for me to “get over there!”
At his next stop I stopped at his open door and politely asked him to count the number of times the cycle route is blocked the next time he drives down the road and then I not so politely told him that the next time he drove that close to me I would put him to [zb]ing sleep !! :grimacing:
