(snip)How many ‘old’ wagons were driven with a stick holding the throttle pedal down? They were flat out all day…
The older NA engines were not stressed like the turbo units, so were more capable of taking it I would say.True, personally I would rather have a large capacity lightly stressed NA engine than a smaller one with a ‘snail’ bolted to it trying to get a quart out of a pint pot but then I am an old fashioned sod!
Pete.
That argument would make sense in the case of something like the DAF 2300/2500 or Volvo F7.But in this case we’re comparing the combination of forced induction ‘and’ the ‘right’ capacity. The difference being not trying ( predictably unsuccessfully ) to replace displacement but just making your idea work more efficiently. The 14 litre ■■■■■■■ actually being at the relative higher end of that capacity scale either by accident or design.Possibly the latter in being one of the successful designs that made the transition from large capacity natural aspirated to large capacity forced induction. To the point where the original design was ultimately shown to contain a reliable well over 100 lb/ft per litre specific torque output potential.
