Many tipper loads of this type of stone will be needed to cover the parking area of the new Junction 36 Crooklands
Auction Mart . The family-owned firm of L. & W. Wilson from nearby Endmoor , are kept busy bringing the materials.

Photographed here, against a dull background, - typical ■■■■■■■■ weather . :frowning:

Now I’ve a better idea for a painting ont’ back of that tanker eh! or mebe it should be ont’back of a Tipper. One of Hodge in his dookers and knotted hanky on his head, bobbing about ont’ Ellen sat int’ middle of a 1000x20 inner tube,on secind thowts yu’d better mek it a 1200X 20 tube eh! Cheers Dennis.

Excellent photo hodgturbo especially Maryport lighthouse believed to be the worlds first cast iron lighthouse. It is a shame that someone has pulled the harbour plug out, I hope they can find it again !!!

Honest question now, does the job really need a 480 engine and a sleeper cab? It seems like your loosing payload for no gain there!
380 day cab is more than up to the work of an 8 leg tipper!

I’d forgitten Hodge that beet time’t Ellen reaches Maryport it is as wide as’t Misissippi eh! But where I was browt up as a lad on’t foot hills of Skidda you could paddle acrosst l’al beck eh! wid oot gitting yer feet wet varra nearly eh!.On a more serious note Paul do you you think I would qualify for entry to the Egremont Crab fair,Dialect class of course, not the Gurning competition you understand. Cheers Dennis. :sunglasses:

Hi Bewick.that laal beck where thoo was browt up can be dangerous, only last ear a couple in a Mini Cooper (I think) got into a flood doon by Ireby Mill and were weshed intilt Ellen and were saved only when it wedged under a tree or possibly a bridge, cant just remember the correct outcome.

I know the spot exactly L600,it would have got stuck under the bridge which replaced the old footbridge, prior to this the Ellen could only be forded at that spot.It was a great wash out spot for the ADB containers, all the ■■■■ and sawdust just went straight down the beck !! I often went over the wellie tops carting buckets of water up the back doors,Oh to return to those days of yore !! They’ed get locked up now if they backed down into the Ellen and washed out eh! RWB and AHB sure did send some ■■■■ doon the la’l beck on numerous occaisions!! Cheers Dennis.

Aye Bewick its a good job they are both beyond any retribution these days, I can just imagine both of them slattering in that watter and AHB (in fisherman mode) speculating how big the fish would grow to further down the beck !!!
Cheers Leyland 600.

Hi bubbleman, This Leyland Octopus of Stoddart Bros was based about half a mile from my home, owned by Harry & John Stoddart who took over the business a good few years previously from Stanley Fell who died suddenly. Harry drove for Stan and John drove a Leyland Comet for Richard (Dickie ) Thompson of Wigton who was an agricultural merchant. He had one of the first Comets in the Wigton area and was unusual by having what was said to be Bonnalack cab. This was pressed steel cab a bit like a Motor Panels design which indeed I think it may have been similar to some fitted to Thorneycroft 8 wheelers.

The second Comet that John got at Thompsons was a new LAD cabbed one in around 58/59 IIRC,he used to run down to Liverpool a couple of times a week and return the same day with loads of feed stuff,it would have been a fair days work in pre motorway days on the A class roads at no more than 30 MPH.Cheers Bewick.
