The multi talented LawsonsLawsons used to have a 8 wheeler of the same make (they were the dealers) and they had a fantastic Atkinson 8 wheeler.
Here is one for you Little Ha Ba. Do you remember Lawsons Transport Manager at the time a fella called Foster from Aspatria? You probably knew Andrew Penrice and Stephen Little, what are they up to now? I have noticed that Lawson have a couple of sub contractors called Yates and Ridley.
Do you have any photos of Lawsons Cranes or other items of plant, in fact, although this is a transport forum, it would be great to see some photos of items of plant owned by ■■■■■■■■ companies such as Seymour, F Brown, BEC? and buses/coaches owned by Messengers, Yewharts, Shaw Hadwin etc, plus any ships owned by J Fisher.
■■■■■■■■ Gill there are some photos of page 20 on this thread. Do either you or Little Ha Ba have any more photos of H & ME Fearon (not John Irvings!)
Hinchcliffe (red and white Volvos and Scanias) was involved with Tinnelly, Bewick were eventually owned by a French Bank called Banque Indosuez (via WRM) after Dennis left I believe the main man was called McPhie?
here you go george

The scania 111 that belonged to lawson,s was driven by Colin Beattie, and he was the only one to drive it,I did have the pleasure to drive it for a day after some kind person threw a brick through the old f86,s window. So i was shotgun till colin said for me to take over the driving.Thats his name Beattie he lived in Cockermouth, I believe that he left Lawsons and went to work for Allerdale. Do you remember a another friend of mine Norman Baliff?
Apologies if I,m wrong but I think it was Norman Baliff who was killed in an accident about 15yrs ago I think he went through a bridge at Cockermouth in one of Lawson,s motors.
I didn’t nod off! honest!! Wheres the wrecker?
Bewick:

And I would think you got away with not a lot of damage Dennis.
Cheers Dave.
I read with interest all this rubbish about Eddie Stoppart.
I know I come from Durham County whih is on the other side of the country from ■■■■■■■■ and I have had no direct interest in Road Haulage since we closed in 1986, but until recently I had never heard of Eddie Stoppart, and when I have read of the information, no doubt given out by their public relations department I read the company is basicly run by accountants. Our business was founded in 1919 by my grandfather, and from my experience road haulage is something that is in your blood. I’m sure like us most of the hauliers have from time to time made mistakes but all decisions will have been made on gut feelings and the welfare of your business and employees and not just the benefits it will make to the bottom line of your annual accounts
From the sixties until the mid eighties we continually got letters from people, saying they watched our vehicles when they travelled on the road. We even got letters of people seeing them in France. In those days when they asked for a vehicle list it was not computor generated, but typed out, but we always replied, not for publicity purposes or an idea drawn up by an advertising agent, but because we were pleased that they had noticed our vehicles
Congratulations to the advertising agents who thoight up the scheme for Stopparts and the accountants that saw the value in the publicity, but personally without this I would never have noticed one of their vehicles. Now Berwick is a different case. The red and white livery and the lettering stand out. Congratulations to who ever thought of it. Their vehicles I would have noticed
Hello
Carl, can’t you spell? Eddie Stobart is spelt: Eddie Stobart, not Eddie Stoppart. You ought to visit stobartgroup.co.uk where is very clear, the Company is Spelt Stobart. Please try to get it right.

shows how much I have noticed the vehicles, I cant even remember their name
However one thing I did remember was an article when the Managing Director said he was not a commercial vehicle enthusiast and had never been in a cab. That said a lot.
My father brought me up that if I was to ask someone to do anything I had to be able to do it myself, I might have been a ‘Jack of all trades’ but at least i had the pleasure of sitting in Bedford cabs when i was 5 to 6 years old and pretending to drive.
