And the award for understatement of the year goes to C10!
Garner’s trucks are nothing short of spectacular!
Amongst the haulage companies representing ■■■■■■■ at the recent Truckfest Scotland , was this well kept
Scania belonging to Ian Ridley.
Cheers , cattle wagon man.

0Who remembers Robson’s running this Bobby Hind cabbed Albion Reiver. ?Cheers Leyland 600.
1950’s shot I guess L600,what would it’s spec have been,4cyl engine, single drive ? great shot though,Robsons always ran a few “odd balls” through the years even though their main fleet consisted of Foden for the heavy work and Traders for the lighter traffic such as MB.Cheers Bewick.
Hi Bewick, It may have had an Albion EN 286 4 cyl engine which would have been rather pathetic, I remember George Hayton from Bothel had one and waiting for its driver to catch me up on the top of Market Weighton coming from Hull with flour for Carrs at Silloth, he didn’t know his way through York and was flate he got lost.I thought he was never coming despite setting off together. Some had Leyland 0/375 Comet engines which were a much better bet. Probably a double drive but only a 5 speed box 38mph flatt oot. !!! A good looking wagon all the same, the curved quarter lights were moulded in Sproats bakery in Denton Holm in the late afternoon when the ovens were cooling down and the Perspex could be moulded within the male and female wooden moulds with right handed and left handed pairs. Bobby Nicholson the recently retired bodyshop foreman related this method to me many years ago.
Cheers

Iv’e got to say L600 you are a mine of interesting info Did you see my post about PVC covered main sheets that were popular,in green, with some of the marras including RWB ! I found them to be bloody useless, but “Greavas” must have persuaded some of the marras to buy them eh!
Cheers Bewick.

Well Leyland mate, flate eh?? Well it must have been the driver either before or after my Dad drove it, I used to go to Hull with him via York in it as a kid, and I can assure you he was neither flate nor ignorant of the way through! This would be about 1964, George parked his motors in Jazzer’s yard, the Albion in question was an ex Jack Watt motor which he used for chickens my Dad tells me, ( incidentally if anybody has a pic of it I would love to see it) it was bloody slow and it wasn’t the best at pulling up hills as I remember, and when George suggested converting it to a tractor unit my Dad went to work for Billy Bothwick at Blencogo, he eventually left and Dave Joyce got his job, at the same time Viv Lightfoot started work for him and they both had an accident at the same time with Billy’s BMC Austin and Dodge, the C plate BMC was later bought by Hinds and was sat there as scrap when I saw it again in 1980.
Another point which I have made before, there are too many modern motors on here, it’s meant to be OLD TIME as the forum title suggests
, post the modern stuff on the Photo forum.
O.K., robroy,…I guess that I am one of the posters
you are referring to , - as the B.Johnston Volvo precedes
your current comment . .
However , to appease you, Ill now
post` a photograph of a 1967 Albion Clydesdale .
This Albion was owned by the late Frank Whitehead from Reagill, between Shap and Penrith.
Cheers , cattle wagon man.
Hi CWM, I wasn’t having a pop at you personally mate, it’s just that I prefer looking at the old stuff as I see enough modern stuff everyday as it is when working .
Like your Albion pic by the way, I remember a guy called Harry Bragg at Beckfoot with a similar Leyland Cattle carrier in the 60s.

I believe that Harry would be one of the first in ■■■■■■■■■■ to buy an LAD Leyland Comet when they came out around 58/59,I bet L600 would know but he probably daren’t comment considering the response he got from his very interesting post about the “gutless” Albion six wheeler
Cheers Bewick.

Just being protective towards my Dad Dennis, I’ve just never known him as being the way that Leyland described that’s all mate. George did have a few drivers on that motor so maybe I was a bit quick to jump.
