CPC National and International, December 2nd 2011

Sorry to hear you went down on part 1 Truckgirls, good luck with the March exam!

One tip I would give is that for anything you feel you are weak on, read out the module, or a summary of it onto your mobile phone as a recording, and then play it back over and over and over again while you are on a long car or truck journey, eventually every last bit of it will sink in.

Here’s the Case Study paper from the December 2011 exam.

ocr.org.uk/download/pp_11/oc … t4_dec.pdf

And here’s the examiners report.
ocr.org.uk/download/rep_11/o … dec_11.pdf

Although the format is changing, I am sure the questions will be similar. Reading the exam paper and then the examiner’s report will give enormous help in taking the CPC, the examiner’s report tells you exactly what answers they were looking for and by contrast what answers they received, losing candidates marks.

Meanwhile, I have had the opportunity to spend the odd 45 minutes or so revising the International module while waiting on a break, or waiting to load and will continue doing that for the rest of February. Touch wood, I am fairly confident that I will get the International module in March.

Here’s the key part of the report:

However, the usual candidate failings of inability to express answers in
complete sentences and lack of basic mathematical competence continued to be widely
demonstrated. A recurring theme was the way in which many candidates completely ignored
either or both the information in the scenario and the questions actually posed and instead
opted to answer questions of their own making.

I’m suggesting that this applies to anybody on here, but the report clearly states what happens when candidates don’t RTFQ, and then go wittering on with rambling answers that don’t actually address the question that’s been asked.

The report writer isn’t kidding when using the phrases “the usual candidate failings…” and "A recurring theme… " because those have been the commonest causes of a fail on the unit 4 exam for as long as I can remember.

Exam candidates ignoring even the most simple instructions is also a common theme, because every CPC instructor I’ve ever worked with clearly explained the importance of addressing the question and giving a short answer that is to the point. When I did CPC exam invigilation, I could usually get an idea of who was in with a chance of passing.

Truckgirls:
Hi Everyone,
Just got back from holiday, passed part 2 & 4, bloody failed on part 1 finance, i did struggle throughout the course on that part.
Now the the exam has changed again, only two parts.
Part 1 = 2hr mutli/choice (part 1 & 2 together along with international question)
Part 2 = 2hr scenario (part 4 same scenario but with international question)
If you fail any parts you only take the part you failed next time round.
GUTTED i part the scenario and failed part 1, never mind booked for march.

Hi Truckgirls,

I’m very sorry to hear that you failed unit 1. :frowning:

The usual fail area is unit 4, so I’d like to congratulate you on passing that. Unit 4 is not easy.

A possible reason for failing unit 1 is that you left a question on the question sheet and intended to come back to it, but you might have forgotten to skip a space on the answer sheet. That would mean that all answers below that point were out of sync with the question numbers. There are also other possible ‘administrative’ reasons for a unit 1 fail, and these are not necessarily connected with a lack of knowledge.

:bulb: If it’s of any comfort, I don’t think you failed unit 1 by a big margin, because the unit 4 exam contains a number of elements of info found in unit 1. BTW, the minimum correct score required to pass unit 1 is 70%, which is 21/30.

I’d like to wish you Good Luck for your March exams.

Dave,
I think it would of been better to fail all, than just part 1 by a few points, never mind i will try harder.

Well done to all who passed and commiserations to all who need to re-take it; it’s a tricky exam. :unamused:

I was fortunate enough to achieve the Road Haulage in September and the Passenger Operations in December 2011 (I like to keep my options open!)

So now I need to try to pass both International modules in 2012, so please keep your fingers crossed for me, as well as Harry & co.

And if anyone is looking for a Transport Manager in North West London, for trucks or coaches…!

Harry,

no bloody “Incoterms” question in the Int paper yesterday after all my revision of it :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :unamused:

Struggled on one or two but fingers crossed for the 60% pass rate.

Bit unfair that those doing both Nat/Int under the new system at the same time get multiple choice questions for the Int part of the exam.
Plus,
they are ALLOWED to have their books to reference from in the exam!!! :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Big Truck:

LOL, I fell down on Incoterms in the December exam, so spent hours memorising them, and yes, no questions on Incoterms!

The answers I can remember are arrival Frankfurt 1245, 2070 euros for the costing, 64000 euros for the financial standing, ATA carnet for the exhibition to Istanbul from the chamber of commerce, no VAT on the export load to Istanbul.

There were three of us sitting the exam and when we compared answers afterwards we all agreed answers.

Yay!

I don’t know if I am happy, or just plain relieved! :grimacing:

I’ve just had a call to say that I passed my International Road Haulage CPC in March. Thank Heavens for that!

Now I just need to take the International Passenger CPC to have the full set…

Until the rules get changed again, of course! :imp:

I hope everyone else that took either the stand-alone International or the new format CPC exams also has good news.

Blimey, that’s quick, last time it took over two months for the results to be announced, I’ll have to make a phone call and see if Kent Metro have had my result back yet.

Yes, same here, for my national results.

I think it’s because so few people took just the international module in March.

It will take a few weeks for my certificate to come through, but the results are available from OCR online for the exam centres to peruse.

I hope your news is good, Harry!

I just phoned, Kent Metro haven’t heard anything yet but they said they’d call when they did. They seemed surprised that the results were out so soon, like you say it’s probably because so few candidates sat the exam this time around. Will just have to wait for the call I suppose…

Just got my phonecall from:
dunntrainingsolutions.co.uk/
based in Belfast and I’ve passed the Int CPC,
happy days.

If anybody based in NI or Scotland wants a highly recommended transport training company that “does what it says on the tin” at very competitive rates look no further than Gareth Dunn of Dunn Training. :sunglasses:

Well done Big Truck, just got the call from Kent Metro and that’s me passed too. :sunglasses:

Well done to Harry, BigTruck and everyone else who has passed.

Commiserations to anyone who didn’t quite get the result they needed.

Good on you Harry,

Russia/Turkey in a big Merc Megaspace it is then  :exclamation: :exclamation:

Doubt that will never happen again!

Still waiting to see if I get a national licence and at the moment I’m only planning on doing UK work for the time being, just need to decide whether to wait until I get that and then put in to have it upgraded to green disc or whether to send in the GV80A now and go for the upgrade straight away.
