Maybe they just wanted to see how you were and fancied a catch up.
Dont be so cynical…
I often receive texts from the agency to where I work full time now. I always reply that I am indeed available for a Sunday shift at the £1 million per hour they’re offering. My boss gets a bit ■■■■■■ off when the agency put my name forward for an assessment and has on numerous occasions told me to wind my neck in and not reply to the texts.
Best way to stop them mithering;
- Agree to any shift they offer at any pay rate.
- Simply don’t turn up.
- Laugh one’s head off at their stupidity…

My mate did that. He had two irate women from an agency in Brum turn up to his house in the morning!
They wouldn’t leave until he gave a full explanation. And insisted that he call the owner of the company and apologise. His wife was mortified - they were saying loudly this is why he has money problems and making them look like paupers to the neighbours!

Then your mate isn’t too bright. He should have said in an equally loud voice " How many times do you need to be told? I will not have depraved ■■■ outdoors with you two anymore, I will send you your love beads back in the post ".
I’ve also been getting calls from an agency I did a bit of work for, despite telling them at the time I didn’t want to continue to work for them as thier rates were too low and twice telling them I am in full-time employment.
I’ve also seen loads of adverts for drivers on the back of trucks or on posters in layby’s, no doubt it won’t be long before the RHA and FTA launch another media blitz of thier latest hairbrained scheme to try and recruit new drivers into the industry.
Strangely enough I had a call from an Agency in Bradford on my mobile last Thursday, I have not lived in Bradford since 1997
, was I interested in some work
I said I am now retired, was my licence still valid
yes till November I said quietly amused BUT unless they were offering £25 per hour cash I was not interested
, I will take you name of our files she said and hung up.
I’ve been doing two days a week for a local agency as the company I’ve been helping for their season is down to two days a week ( silly money for 7.5t) to be fair to them they have given me work for any day I’ve wanted. Never had to do an assessment crap ( I refuse anyway unless paid - don’t care who it is) Their rate could be better but it’s liveable they pay all breaks and money in bank the following week. Most are ■■■■■ but there are exceptions.

Great minds think alike.
I did exactly that to transline a few years ago after they had lied to me and messed me about with “ongoing” full time work at one of their “clients” (as they do, I was naive to agency work at the time)
Anyway, after a few weeks of binning them off due to persistant lies etc I received a phone call at 6pm on a Friday evening asking if I’d be okay for a 3am start as work had picked up and I was “one of their reliable” drivers - you know the usual b.s. that comes out. I’d never actually done any work for them so how I became one of their reliable drivers is still a mystery.
I took great pleasure knowing at that point I was working full time and had completed my weeks work and had no intention of turning up for said shift. Never more so was I glad for my phone to be ringing at 3.30am from Mr recruitment consultant asking where I was. My response “in bed as I had changed my mind and didn’t feel like doing the shift anymore”
Oddly enough, they never rung again asking me to work.
Am I the only one thinking about the company who ordered the driver?

Maybe they should do more due diligence on the agencies they use and ensure they aren’t promising drivers “ongoing full time” work that isn’t there.
Or perhaps the company need to accept if they book and cancel drivers at a whim - thus messing the driver about then this is going to happen.
Either way I have no sympathy with either.
^^^ Correct.
Plenty companies can afford to employ full time drivers yet they take the ’ easy ’ option of employing temps. These agencies are parasites and are not in any way a positive thing for the haulage industry.
Agencies lie and manipulate drivers, and it’s about time any driver who gets ■■■■■■ around simply starts agreeing to shifts & not turning up. Sooner or later it would dissuade companies from relying heavily on temps & recruit their own employees due to a complete lack of reliability.
It might also have a knock-on effect of the country getting a bit more in tax receipts due to this ’ Ltd company ’ scam

Reinforcing the stereotypes.
Slightly odd topic I’ve done similar to double glazing sales calls. I’ve told them to stop ringing me and if they continue I’ll agree to am appointment and not be there.
Done it a couple of times and strangely enough they stopped ringing.
