Corona virus and european driving

And don’t you just love Donald Duck, sorry, Trump

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has suspended all travel from Europe to the United States for 30 days from Friday.

He said the EU had “failed to take the same precautions” as the US,

However, he said the United Kingdom would be exempt from the new travel ban

.

So if you’re in Belgium, Holland, France or Germany, hop on a boat to England and get a plane from there to the States :unamused: :unamused:

Apparently US citizens that are currently in Europe, working or visiting, wanting to return home, will be exempt. :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

As I understand it, Italy doesn’t really have it particularly badly

I think you might want to reconsider that comment

It is much as expected. It’ll probably be the same for everywhere.
If Italy is in front of other places in the curve, well, somewhere has to be first!

Still doesn’t explain why Italy first and why so bad

If Italy is in front at the moment, don’t fret! Well all catch up soon.
.
It is serious, and sensible precautions should be taken, but they will only slow its course. The genie will not return to the bottle.

I’m saying that because Italy is further into it, the figures will be worse at the moment.
Describing it as ‘particularly bad’ can only be done after everywhere has been through the cycle and we can look at overall figures. Later on when Italy is past the hump, and we are yet to reach it, their figures will be declining as ours are still rising, but it wouldn’t be fair to say we have it worse than them. Just different times of the same experience.
Why Italy first? Ain’t got a clue. Just that somewhere had to be first.
“Stuff” happens!

Yep. Incredible!
Well, it’d be unbelievable if it was anyone else.
.
Edit. As you say we will have Americans from Italy and elsewhere, having trouble with cancelled flights, but wanting to return home, coming to Heathrow.
Edit 2…
#Now Show. Trump allowing flights in/out of UK and Eire? Where he owns golf courses…by coincidence of course!

Well, as of Wed 11th evening Diagio at Leven and Shieldhall have instituted their anti-Corona Virus measures.
I expect it’ll be the same at all their premises, wherever they are.

You are required to self-declare whether you’ve been to any coutries in a huge, 2 part list, which include Switzerland, France and Germany, during the last 3 weeks.
I didn’t read the whole list, because I haven’t been out of the UK for 3 weeks.
If you have, they’ve now put in what is essentially qurantine measures. You have to park up and await an ■■■■■■.
You will be escorted to your delivery point (I don’t know if that’s a particular “Corona virus” delivery point or just the usual).
Your ■■■■■■ will stay in their vehicle and ‘guard’ you (how long that’ll last is anyones guess).
You wait until all personell have cleared the unloading point.
Get out, undo all buckles etc, giving allow free access to the load (as much as possible).
Get back in and remain in your cab until unloading is completed. If you’ll have to move your curtains, I expect they’ll inform you somehow and clear the area until you’re back in your cab.
Wait for all personell to clear the unloading point.
Get out and fasten up curtains etc.
Hope your paperwork didn’t blow away, or that they’ve got somewhere to leave it safely.
Then leave
We had one of our lads turned away at the gate yesterday afternoon. He’d loaded goods for them in France and obviously declared where he’d been.
That was their initial anti-Corona Virus measure, turn you away.   :unamused:
Presumably someone eventually realised that stocks were not going to last 3 weeks and a lot of it comes from Europe. So they came up with this plan.
I had to go over today to deliver the stuff, so I asked.

To be honest, I don’t think they can do any more than that, to try and prevent it affecting everyone, production and profits.
It’ll be a pain in the neck for everyone involved and will cause delays. Oh well, lifes a [zb], carry on, grin and bear it.

Unless you have the correct visa you will not be allowed entry to the US at present having an address in the 26 banned EU countries will result in no visa and no entry regardless of where your flight started

Belgium also has big problems with Corona virus.
Schools closed for the next 5 weeks . Only supermarkets open in the weekend and all bars and cafes are closed for the next 5 weeks.
Good mate of mine ( an Englishman) is in Hospital over here with the Corana disease.

Well here in France we’re on lock-down as from Monday 16th march.

The prime minister , Edouard Philippe, announced on the tv that only pharmacies, food stores and service stations will remain open.

Bars/restaurants , non essential shops, cinemas, libraries, night clubs, are to stay closed.
There are no football matches on all levels, which has really pee’d off my daughter.

Really pleased :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: about the restaurant thing, no routier restaurants :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp:
so its salads and tins for me for the following weeks

A few of us were discussing this virus on the ferry this week.
We just couldn’t work out why Italy has got it so bad, especially in Lombardi (north of the country)
then one of my colleagues suggested could it be because of the number of migrants there ?

Possibility or not ?

As far as I am aware Italy has the oldest population in Europe, so many vulnerable people. The north would be with the highest population density so that is probably why there were more cases than the south. I am sure there are other factors but those are some.

Could be the same reason for Spain then, they have a high number of aged people too.

On a positive note I believe Pidou’s is scheduled to reopen on the 4th of May suggest he is well stocked up

One of the suggestions for lifting the lockdown is a 14 day isolation period after returning from a foreign holiday, I’m thinking if they apply this it may slow international transport a little

Looks like truck drivers will be exempt, which I think is normal in other countries that have a 14 day quarantine period, but wait for the complaints from the usual suspects when they realise that those on Transport work are exempt, whilst not be able to compute that that particular veg or fruit they just can’t survive without has to come on the back of a truck from somewhere else in Europe.

BBC News understands that key workers such as lorry drivers who transport goods and people working in the shipping industry would be exempt.
