Correct Winseer, we are 30 down in the warehouse from self isolating already apparently, we have agency in, overtime on and trying to recruit short term but that takes time to train them. At least getting subbies and agency in to drive theres not much training needed.
It cannot be easy for indoor staff right now - to both double-up on the working, AND train these rookies who won’t have a clue, a lot of them…
It would seem to be a bit of a faux pas to advertize these jobs as “no training give, and temporary work only” - which is the same sort of signal to outsiders looking for work - that puts off would-be ZHC workers, I suspect…
I suspect a lot of people on this very board must be sniggering away at the old cliches “Work ongoingly” - when the word TEMP tells you that it is anything but.
It would have been better to advertize proper full time jobs working directly for the firm, full training given, which must be paid back out of one’s wages if you leave the firm for any reason within the next two years at least…
Give people their job security back - by having a penalty clause for leaving that job!
THEN you might actually get some productive people with strong work ethic - show an interest, rather than the usual crowd of benefit claimants, not wanting their benefits to be stopped by “not attending this particular job opportunity…”
Winseer:
It is a shortage of warehouse staff, rather than transport staff… That’s why.20 trucks turn up in the course of an hour to get tipped. There’s 20 bays, so no need for a “tip queue”…
Each truck gets on a bay, and then reads the H&S blurb card stating the usual rules about “must wait in the cooler with the other drivers” - but that’s now been relaxed, and not before time, neither!..
So stay in your cabs, and be patient. There are only a handful of indoor staff in the whole warehouse, and they’ll end up tipping all those trucks already on bays - one of two at a time, at best…
It will take a while.
It is a bad time to be salaried, and a great time to be paid by the hour, providing you’ve got a truck that isn’t a day-cab.![]()
Here’s a clue there are no trucks there let alone a queue of trucks waiting.Just like there are usually no customers panic buying.Because if it’s real they don’t want to spend time among others in a supermarket.Nor are there any shelf stackers out stacking shelves.
While the whole thing is obviously a sham because if the government was the real deal it would be calling on shoppers to bulk buy wherever possible to cut down on their trips to the shops.Nor would we be seeing empty unloading bays and no one stacking the shelves in deserted aisles.
You have stores opening early to allow only the elderly and NHS workers to do their shops…
Five minutes later, the store shelves are stripped bare, and the old folk are upset that they are walking around empty shelves…
So I would tentetively suggest to all paying any attention here that it is these NHS workers that “hang about outside for the 6am opening” and the NHS worker that are stripping shelves bare and the NHS worker that are being surly and abusive to the elderly, just as they are at so many care homes these days, and just as they are via the political activism of “Momentum” of which so many NHS workers are already a part of.
That ain’t pretty is it!
For once, my usual critique of 4x4 drivers “WTF are you at Tescos for, when your £48k vehicle implies you can afford to shop at an alternative up-market location, and keep out of the rest of our way…” - doesn’t seem to be applying here.
It ain’t people shovelling their bulk-buys into the backs of 4x4s in the supermarket car park - that I’ve been seeing.
“Murican”-looking orderly types, judging by the orderlies outfits being worn.
I guess to get in at 6am when it is supposed to be ONLY NHS workers and elderly - means some might be dressing as NHS workers, rather than having to flip out some actual ID (in this country at least…) to avoid being challenged, and nothing else?
…Or is “What you see, what you get” here? It is the NHS workers that are the source of all this ugliness about “Dawn Raids on Supermarkets” we’ve heard so much about in the media - without a single finger of blame pointing AT the actual perps behind it hmm?

Jesus Christ, do you ever stop■■? we had 22 sub contractor units in today as well as our own drivers and agency. Both stores I delivered to today had good stock levels for the most part, bog roll, pasta, eggs and weirdly olive oil were short but plenty of fresh and canned goods, bread and milk. Was even a load of handwash!!! I already explained why no shelf stackers, but in the last few days with decent stock levels we can put staff back on replenishment during the day.
Remains to be seen what Boris’s latest announcement will do but we are a lot better positioned than last time.
