I must admit i am a bit confused i heard (yes i know mmtm) that they had gone under back last year sometime. Owens had bought a few of there green and yellow scanias (which is what started the talking about mcfarlanes off in our yard), And also i didn’t see any about for a while
But then i started seeing white man’s with green and yellow stripes pulling new trailers did they sell up, change owners, start again or just replace their fleet just curious.as far as i know, like you say they went under but i think it was a management buyout or something, i saw one of their parked in belgium few weks ago
also c m downtons still go across the water
Downton’s mainly go abroad to collect the OK magazine fro Monchengladbach, Out Sunday/Monday, Back Monday/Tuesday, dont do much Euro other than that nowadays.
Macfarlane’s also do the Ok magazine back from M’bach, but since buying out The Sewell Group, tend to a bit more Euro. I think OhTerry saw 2 Mac’s wagons in Barcelona a few weeks back.
I know they were advertizing, but the money was horrendous, so no one applied. Dont know if they still want Euro drivers or not though.

I was talking to a Downtons driver in Rugby, and him and a couple of Siddles boys were talking about Macs. He said that since Stoford went, Downtons were trying to get more work as Macfarlanes were in trouble again. It seems as though the Jigsaw Brand will continue though.
I have seen at least 11 Macfarlanes in Belgium this week
Mac’s motor’s in Belgium will most likely all be on the way in/out from Germany with the OK magazine, but this is stopping in July when they move it back to Scarborough, then Liverpool in December.
As fr as i know Mac’s are doing OK, about as Ok as anyone else is at the moment anyway. There is lots more Magazine work on the Horizon for both Mac’s and Downton’s.
It seems as though the Jigsaw Brand will continue though.
I should expect so too, As far as i know Widdowson’s/Downton’s are the 2 main Jigsaw Shareholder’s, though i am open to be proved wrong.
i suppose mac’s euro work will know mainly be car parts as that was sewells main job. still that will sort out the mac’s drivers as they like crap rates as well.
when i went into see about a job at sewells it was £400 pw no matter if you did one night out or 5 the take home was 400 no matter what.
there was a driver on here that was on for sewells he seemed to came and went.

I thought all the UK magazines were going to be printed in Sheffield by Polestar. We moved a lot of machinery in there from France
if it goes to polestar at sheffield then all the distrubution will be by bedfords.but i think bedfords and mac’s and also tef have a finger in greaves at scarboro’s pie.
that was one iof the reasons why mac’s knocked the polestar contract on the head… was polestars ideas that mac’s do greaves work for next to nothing.

It is being done by Polestar, but not in Sheffield. At the moment we are led to believe it is being done in Scarborough to start with, then most likely moving to Liverpool. We have been told one way or other it all finishes in Germany in July though.

Dont know how that would work then, Downton’s/Macfarlane’s have the contract for Distributuing the OK magazine, regardless of where its printed.
Carr Brothers still do regular Spain & Germany
What about good old freddie edmondsons( furniture) blue actros,s
from ooop north… crap money , but half decent job and mostly new motors too…■■? also parkinsons ,preston red scanias fridge work…
BuzzardBoy:
then most likely moving to Liverpool.
presume that’s the new prinovis (bertelsmann group) place behind speke airport? we took the big boilers from germany and turbines from swiss in there ages ago - looks like some factory “just” for printing magazines

E M Rogers, Northampton
Chambers & Cook, Birmingham
Smiths of Scotter, Blyton
HC Wilson, Elmswell
