Clunk Click Every Trip - Do You?

I always wear mine. I’ve never really thought about NOT weaing it. If it’s there, it’s on!

Ahem, what he was implying was that even if it was fitted when the truck is manufactured you could remove it and just not ewear it but as we all know thats not the case…

have a look here if you need persuading:

im no expert but i don’t thnk this poor guy was wearing a seat belt(unless the seat went with him.

my deepest sympathy are with his family and friends

What annoys me most, is when you get into a unit, (ours are nearly all scania topliners), and you find the seat belt round the back of the seat and plugged in, just to put the little red light on the dash out, because they’re annoyed by it at night! :unamused:

My Dad drives a V-reg XF and it doesn’t even have seatbelts fitted. He was told that it didn’t come with them as it was Dutch-Spec e.g. it has large ally tanks and the full catwalk etc

I always wear it, it doesn’t feel right otherwise. Don’t even notice it is on most of the time.

If they’ve got 'em I wear 'em. I do prefer to have one in. Doesn’t seem to get in the way unduly.

im hard me mate :sunglasses: i’m a tipper driver :sunglasses: Seatbelts… actually if i am in forward motion then mine is on. I must admit i undo it for reversing. But if anything is going to happen i want to be strapped inside the metal cage not on the carraigeway :open_mouth:

I always wear mine (must get out of the habit of putting it on after I’ve driven off  ) and dont notice it. I don’t fancy head butting the screen or getting the steering wheel in my chest if there was a crash.

Presume on a test, if you omit to wear the belt then it is failure? Assuming one is fitted to the truck.

Especially at the speeds tipper drivers go at as well :).

Not me Jammy. Steady Away. Especially in a 350 plated at 40t

IIRC trucks must be supplied at new with seatbelts fitted but they are not required thereafter. The upshot being that if you take it out you commit neither seat belt or construction&use offences.

When truck seatbelts were first introduced they were bulkhead mounted as the are in most cars. I received a nasty cut to the neck when wearing one when a hole in a building site caused the air seat to bottom out and on the way down the inertia belt locked up. I haven’t worn one in a trcuk since.

I am amazed to find so many claiming to wear belts when the evidence of my eyes on the road is to the contrary. Perhaps the ‘no wear’ brigade are frightened of admitting it. Is it not PC these days not to wear?

I have no arguement with the effectiveness of belts.
I hate wearing one.
I do have an arguement with the ‘nanny’ states which try to force people to take an action which is purely for their own protection.
Not wearing a belt does not harm anyone else (I am talking about drivers not back seat passengers).
If they really want to prevent people from killing others they would ban smoking. I am not suggesting that myself but it is more logical.

I have never really worn a belt in a truck or a car but drape (and sometimes clip) a loose belt over my shoulder to save money.

It might cost me my life one day but IT IS MY CHOICE!

Salut, David.

I was told once by one of the sphincters at Securicor at Newark that if a seat belt wasnt fitted you didnt have to wear it, so he said it was ok to take it out altogether.

This guy was a transport manager!!! at the same time he also told me if there wasn,t an A.B.S. lead you didnt need to use it ( whether there were connections or not!) he told me to put it in the side box and forget about it.

AAhh Securicor eh!!!..

As for the grease monkies maybe its time they were held responsible for the unroadworthiness of the vehicles? and made to do the daily checks before it leaves the yard, after all its them that know whats does what isn,t it?.

do you remember this pratts name  and i’ll send him an e-mail on seat belts and abs along with the 2000pound fine for the abs

I have found myself mostly earing a seat belt now. No decision, just spent a few days out with drivers who do a few months back & got into bad habits.

His name was Nigel something , and he was backed up by a guy called Malcolm somebody.

Apparently nigel doesnt work there any more (gone to Spain i hear) but Malcolm is the boss now.

Surprisingly enough at Securicor (NEWARK) you dont have to know fuscia all about trucks you just have to pretend you do and bovine exretia the drivers in to thinking you do, but hey what can you expect for *£5.25 an hour .

*£5.25 refers to what the drivers i spoke to were earning at the time, now as far as i know NOW they get £85 a day for handballing tv,s fridges, computer,s etc etc to the back of the lorry for a 12 hour shift not bad really for the area.

Really sad! is this the state of the Transport industry?

Its no wonder!

that sounds like our bosses know nothing about trucks or how to route them, well you can be transport manager.as for £5.25 per hour that would be securicor omega logistics, we have tried through there depot in dumfries to get them to join forces with our union, but they are not interested,so no sympathy for them.we ain’t on a great wage ourself but 7.21 is better than 5.25.plus we get xand a half after 8 hours.

Couldnt have put it any better David. I dont wear one, unless I feel like it occaisionally, then I do. I smoke as well, and will do if they ban it, nanny states give me the bile!

Mal

mal, you say that you don’t wear a seatbelt, unless you feel like it.is that when you see a police car behind you or sitting on the motorways  you say it’s your choice but what if something fatal happened(which i hope is never) you are not the one that has to break the news to your wife kids or mum and dad,its that police officer that was first on the scene.how would you feel then,.put it this way do you belt your kids up in the car  or don’t you bother  or are you one that says it won’t happen to me.mal we as truck drivers have all seen accidents some more serious than others, but when you see someone half way out the windscreen you say to yourself he/she was not wearing the seatbelt.yes i have heard all the facts about seatbelts making it harder to get out the car etc etc,but anything that protects you must be a good thing. don’t think for one moment that your exempt cause your high up.surely it must be better to be safe than sorry
