Clubs and Dances, Pubs, were truckers delight

hiya,
Norm, used to do Mr Smiths club in the potteries they had clubs in Manchester and London too but the membership cost a mint in them, but in Stoke the price was five bob and the membership covered all clubs, saw Bob Monkhouse one night doing his men only show he was brilliant.
thanks harry long retired.

Yes, I have seen “BOB” several times, he is as bad as Ken Dodd for running over, they certainly give you, your money worth, I love it up in the north for nightclubs, Eartha Kitt was another one I saw several times, also Helen Shaperio, Tony Christy, Russ Abbot, Showaddywaddy, Freddy and the dreamers, Ivyleague, Drifters, and many more, it was a great time in my life, and all down to being a lorry driver, that I was able to be in those places to see wonderful artists.

hiya,
Liked comedy acts but not into music and singing never had the radio on when on the road unless i wanted to hear the news, go on say it miserable git.
thanks harry long retired.

Alright Harry, your are a sad old , whiskey swilling old driver, music is a uplifting influence. Once I went in a pub in Portsmouth, and a record was playing most of the time, and the words I remember, is “Giibbly, Gibbly, Gobbly”, then I twigged on, it was full of Gays, & Lesbehans, I was out of there, when a dyke grabbed my veg & two meat.

hiya,
Well you could have scored if you had wanted Norm, i think you was’nt trying.

Shot in the dark . . anybody else on here ever go to the “Globo” on the outskirts of Vercelli.?
That was some place- made a change from Carisio.

No swede, but I heard about that club, from my old mate, who was down that way regular, the only clubs abroad I went to was in Hamburg, Belograde, Brno,Prague, Istanbul, Sofia, and a few more in Germany.

Pubs & clubs, I think old HARRY IS STUCK IN ONE DOWN IN lONDON , Review, too much of that . Sandman Norman

DIRTY ■■■■ :open_mouth: .

Or was it DIRTY ■■■■’S :unamused: . It was the name of a pub somewhere in London near The Ramp, Tooley Street I think or it was somewhere near Bishops Gate
Lots of drivers used to go there due to the fact that it was used as a local for a lot of the nurses from a nearby hospital.
I only went there twice and it looked a bit of a hole to me. There were dead cats in display cases and a couple of cat skeletons dotted around the place. I seem to remember one dead cat being on a rope and a pulley so that when you opened the toilet door it used to move. It also made me wonder where they got the beer from as it taste like cat’s pee.
Did anybody else ever go there who are not afraid of admitting it  .

Hi Norman, this is the pub that I was thinking of, ask your mate Barry if it’s the same one.

Regards Steve.

Yes Steve, thats the one, the hanging cat, all the toffs, would visit it, I will try to print it up, he will get a surprise, he is about 82, he is a true Northampton person, born in the boroughs, which is the original town area by the castle wall, even the train station is called “Castle station”,I was also born in my grandmothers house in Althorpe street, a stones throw from the station, it was a poor area, but a proud one, Sandman Norman

hiya,
Norm all the pubbing and clubbing you did when on the road did you actually move any cargo, i was usually too knackered to move when i got to the digs so it was always washed, shaved and bed early to get myself ready for tomorrows onslaught, and as you well you know Norm that was the way of all good trampers.
thanks harry long retired.

Harry, you should know, if you love the job you are doing, you are able to do it quickly and efficent, and find time to enjoy yourself, make no ripples and the boss will leave you to do the job and he rakes the money in, and he is happy, you get quite good after 40 odd years at it, ha ha ha, that goes for most things■■?.

hiya,
All that’s happened to me after doing 40 odd years is mass deterioration, you could describe me as falling apart at the seams.
thanks harry long retired.

Your problem Harry, was you did not relax and enjoy yourself, you worn your body out, with all that work, and all those wives?, was it worth it■■?, ha ha ha, I know you will say yes.

hiya,
For once Norm i’ve got to agree with you i have given the old body a bit too much stick, but at least i’ll croak happy.

Harry, no wonder you are falling apart Man. Stop mass deteriourbating and get yourself a Swedish blond who is half your age  .

hiya.
Mushroomman, tried the much younger bird thing I wore her out, so do you think going to bed wearing the boxing gloves might help??.
thanks harry long retired.

harry_gill:
hiya,
Norm, the only time i got propositioned when in digs was by a willie wufter in Nottingham, if i had’nt walked out and got digs a couple of doors along i would have been up for murder, luckily it was an area where digs was plentiful and the first one was actually in BRS Nottingham traffic office until i called next day and did a few alterations to the digs list, thats what you might call a “rearguard” action.
thanks harry long retired.

Yes Harry, with your track record it might be a good idea to go to bed wearing boxing gloves  .

hiya,
Thanks Mushroomman i’m just glad i’ve come across someone who can put me on the right path at last, old Norm failed miserably, but i think he’s just as knackered as I am and nearly as ancient as well.
thanks harry long retired.

Harry, do not bury me yet, I feel young, I bet Steve is no chicken, he has load of information of yesteryear, and went down under to stop the aches and pains, lying in the sun, because it makes him feel young again, is this true Steve ha ha ha.

hiya,
Norm in those days i did’nt live a great distance from Failsworth, but just a tad too far too walk and if i’d had a couple of pints of Carlsberg under my belt I would need to be carried home.
thanks harry long retired.
