Norman Ingram:
Harry, you are talking about giving your car driving up.   Well my mate Tom who is 98, 99 in August14th has decided to give up driving, he had a little prang, his insurance runs out the start of April, so he is then ceasing driving. I said you will have to pop on the bus to watch cricket, he said I will not be able to get on a bus, I said it is easier than getting into car.

Hiya,
I would chuck the driving tomorrow but the Missus still enjoys a run out and of
course we do try to get the caravan away a couple of times a year, it’s getting
a bit long in the tooth now and not worth a lot of money although it’s still in a
reasonable condition, the missus has had a licence for many years but she only
drives a couple of miles a week to and from the hairdressers on a Friday, so do
really need the car for shopping but that’s about all now, we could get the most
of the shopping delivered, but all she says is well the cars handy so I guess until
I get the OK from her who must be obeyed I guess I’ll have to carry on driving.
thanks harry, long retired

In 2007 a 103 year old driver hit my transit. He wrote his Peugeot 205 off and caused £3,000.00 worth of damage to my van. He was unhurt and continued to drive until he was 105,he was 106 when he passed away. I was told after he hit me, that he was always reversing into vehicles and had rolled a car on a motorway, going to see his Son in Bournemouth.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Dave, did the 105 year old guy drive the car or did he aim it, I’d liked to have known when he was venturing out so’s I could stay in,
thanks harry, long retired.

I did see him around a few times after, but he was walking in the street, which is no mean feat at that age. When he hit me, I just waited in my van slowing the other traffic down by flashing my lights, then this lady and this old bloke came walking down the road.
I asked them if they were OK. The lady said " I live in the cottage and heard the bang, its Mr Puntis car " I said you were a bit over the line wasn’t you mate. He didn’t say anything. Then I said we had better get the police and the woman said the other car was split in half just around the corner blocking the road. When one of the local Bobbies arrived, he said oh its our 103 year old driver, and I said he ain’t going to make 104 if he keeps hitting transits. :open_mouth:
Cheers Dave.

Who knows Dave, he may be on the road of destruction, or he thinks he is immortal, he may have read too many Superman comic’s. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

No he’s not immortal Norm,he was a part-time baptist preacher, but he joined his boss full time when he reached 106, about 6 years ago.
On a serious note. The poor old bloke lived in an isolated cottage and was burgled a couple of times,as were several other old people in Herefordshire over a period of time. I only got to read about it in the local paper, when they jailed two blokes on long sentences for carrying out the crimes.
He was a tough old boy.
Cheers Dave.

Being old, and you can only walk a few steps, you will miss your car, I know old Tom will miss it. But as I told him he can use a bus and rent a mobility scooter to move around town.

Giving up driving and your vehicle must be hard for anyone Norm. I know what its like to lose your independence, but luckily I can still drive. Things have changed with free public transport and mobility scooters etc, but they are only suited in the urban areas, whereas in the rural areas without a vehicle you are up the creek. Especially with all the village shops and post offices all closed down.
Cheers Dave.

Well lads there is worse things than giving up driving,   and one of those is giving up on ■■■!   but worst still is giving up your money, for if you keep your money! You can always hire a young women Chauffeur, and keep on rideing? :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

hiya,
Woman driver are you mad Norm, I’m only contemplating chucking driving
not thinking about committing suicide by employing a female driver, I just
hope Our Ang isn’t looking in she could be the exception to the rule though.
thanks harry, long retired.

Harry you could be taking your life in your hands,   specially living so close to Ang,   still she might have mellowed being she is a grandmother    You should know I like to live dangerously, :astonished: :astonished: :astonished: no I didn’t have any little German children. :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

Cheers Dave.

I cannot see Harry going any way near a motor bike,   when I had a Matchless 500 G9 I would chat to the girls who would flock around, And say how would you like something hot and throbbing between you legs,   they would say yes please, :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: because being pure of mind we was refering to the motor bike, just in case some one with a dirt track mind reads this!

The only part of a motorbike I’ll be found is the bit where you are in full control
ie’ just behind the handlebars where I can pull up when I want too.

I very nearly bought a 650 Matchless in the mid 60’s, but for once in my life, made a wise decision and bought an Austin A35 van which was safer and drier and warmer in the winter to travel to work in. Also quite handy as a passion wagon.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
One of my very early bikes was an Ariel Square Four which just after age 16,
only cost me a few quid my last bike was a Honda 125 which I only got rid of
a few months ago it was running but I wouldn’t have classed it as roadworthy
being well out of test and I hadn’t ridden it for several years I advertised it as
spares or repairs and it sold immediately, when it was still on the road and it
was a nice Sunday morning I did ride it over the moorland roads for a mile or
so to blow the cobwebs off both me and the bike, it was a bit of a dog and it
struggled a bit with my weight I did enjoy riding it, but the missus did put her
foot down and stopped me riding it, well at 74 (then) I guess I did look a bit
stupid so I reluctantly agreed and parked it in the shed.

hiya,
Dave, I wouldn’t have a clue how to post a picture, and I doubt if I could find a
camera that would withstand taking the picture, but I seem to remember the
odd photo finding it’s way onto various threads posted by other people that I’ve
met at different locations since I joined Trucknet, I too have a full head of hair
or I would have if I didn’t shave my head every few weeks.
