Clubs and Dances, Pubs, were truckers delight

Chris do you mean the cafe on the left, you turn right at the lights, and the football ground is on your left set back, if you do, I stopped there many times for breakfast & stopped a few times, it sold a part of its land to a supermarket, and the cafe was done up, I was in there in the late 80’s / 90’s, but I am sure someone informed me it had closed and the supermarket bought them out and made more parking spaces, I think it was Tesco’s. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

I got a pictur of my mate Bill Thomas on the Iraq border, I will try to post it. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Well I got the Photo on, old Bagdad Bill on his way to there with water purifying equipment for the Iraq army, I bet that got blew up in the " Desert Storm" war. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

I reckon Dennis is hiding in there Norm,he hasn’t been seen on here for about ten days, they probably do a good deal for OAP’s up that way  .
Cheers Dave.

Could be Dave, they used to charge us £20, but where Dennis comes from we used to park on the market square and go in some good digs, and go dancing on the pier at Morecombe.

Stayed at Heysham a couple of years back Norm, thought Morecambe had gone downhill like a lot of the British seaside towns, but I suppose thats because of people holidaying abroad, but that could change now, with the fuel surcharges the airlines are putting on.
Cheers Dave.

Yes Dave, I was told by a chap who lived at Margate that that place had gone down the pan, for I said how we stopped in a caravan and swam in the sea pool which was on the beach, he told me it was a block of concrete, it had been filled in. Back to Morecombe, I used to take my golf clubs with me when I went to Ireland or Scotland, and when I stopped on the way back, I would drop my tank off and go in to the golf course and park outside the club with my unit, have a few laughts with the locals as we played the round. With my golf & dancing, I was a fit man! :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Seems to be much the same in most of the one time British resorts Norm.I don’t expect you would park a tractor unit at a golf club for long these days, someone would be asking you to move it elsewhere :imp:  .
Cheers Dave.

Dave when I started at Pickfords mating we were not allowed to move on Saturdays with a wide load so we went sight seeing in a Scammell Highwayman unit up to see Lizzies house and the tower and such places I suppose we would spend the rest of our time in the tower now days  this was in 67 as I was driving in 68 and getting paid to see all the tourists things was fine by me.
cheers Johnnie

P S it was the throw a way log sheets then so we made one out

I recognise some of the Morgan Brothers lorries amongst those Chris, they go over to your Island with their classic motors, most years.
Cheers Dave.

Dave you would be surprised that that word "Carlsberg " on the unit or the mention of it, I was welcome at six golf courses in Scotland and I got our reps to call on them and they would have it on tap, a few in Ireland as well, in Larne a few of us done a round of golf, the 19th hole was a terrible one to get it over with hic hic hicup. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

The local golf clubs in this area, seem to have more drinkers than golfers I think Norm. There are obviously a lot of keen golfers, but for some it’s a way of having a drink, thinking that everyone else think they are playing golf :grimacing:  .
Cheers Dave.

Hey Dave, you are correct, Dennis has been quiet fo a while, I do hope the old bloke has not snuff it, that should bring him out of the woodwork.   To be honest, I can say I never over did it with drink again, now I am almost a teetotaler, but not mention that word to Harry, he may feel faint!

Norm ,I have to be careful about calling Dennis old,as he is of the same year as myself.I still have a drink, but only at home,as we have no pub in this village,so I have three cans most nights of cheap bitter,or if my mate comes around a few bottles of Newcastle Brown.I could take to being an adopted Geordie like Harry for few bottles of that  .
Cheers Dave.

As you know Harry,I live close to cider country,it’s known as loopy juice around here.I remember there were still a few pubs in the 60’s selling rough cider,it looked like pond water in the glass. There were a lot of cider makers in Herefordshire, still about three still going. My Grandad always bought a barrel of cider and had a glass full with bread and cheese for his supper,he lived until 93,so it didn’t do him any harm.
Cheers Dave.
