I’ve always found that the most arrogant drivers would be any unionized drivers with 30+ years seniority that work for say, TNT, or as Tippers, and have had their current job man and boy, unable to consider working anything else before retirement…
The least arrogant drivers - will be those who’ve never worked for a humbling outfit like a private small firm where a ■■■■ up could be the entire business going under, thus “people don’t have ■■■■-ups there”…
Closing Ranks - is easier at a small firm than a large one, I reckon.
Also, another qualification I’d say is a must for the arrogant driver - is to routinely mis-use company kit to get rid of people that call you out, breaking your own rules… An example of this would be using camera footage to get a senior union member off scot-free for something they’ve actually done, but that camera footage is “never available” when a one-person’s-word-against-the-unpopular-bod is upheld, because they cannot prove they didn’t do it, meaning hearsay evidence is enough to bury even the most careful drivers that are somehow less qualified in “Office Politics”…
“Do you have any idea how unpopular you are here?”
is as nasty as discriminating against someone because of their skin colour, religious faith, country of origion, or their full attendence record, if you think about it - and shouldn’t be allowed.
The correct way to deal with any issues that involve “clash of personality” - would be to approach that person, tell them straight what it is they are doing that is making them so unpopular, and then give them a chance to put it right, and thereby “fit in” with the rest of any offended workforce.
On my part, “compliance” has always proven difficult, when the first sign of someone’s discontent with me - is their kniveSSSSS in my back, rather than any kind words being had with me beforehand.
“You can get more of what you want - with a kind word and a gun - than just a kind word alone.”
