Punchy Dan:
Class 1 superiority complex ? More like artic driver syndrome ,just to add when I park on the services in my rigid & trailer in the marked bay designed for mr artic my cab sticks out approx 6 ft odd more than the maximum length artic
That’s because you couldn’t get it in straight, took two bays and still managed to reverse into the Yaris who couldn’t find the car park so backed into a lorry bay hoping no one would notice!

As Robroy said, same money I’d drive a rigid, much easier to fling around and don’t really have to worry about tight spots.
I flash in rigids, unless I’m limited to 52 and they’re going 56, no point really as they’re way past by the time I’ve bothered to flash. Plus, I don’t flash a car in when they’ve passed me either so…
Just worry about what your doing, don’t worry if you think the artic driver thinks your inferior, they probably don’t, they look at everyone that way

That’s the thing. My situation is kind of this.
I already get £35k (soon to be £40k when they move us onto the same contract as the older drivers), and I’m home every night, rarely working a 12hr day. I hate long journeys too. Did some trunking down to London and back when I started. Was bored out my skull and a few times I ran out of hours and had to be collected (after much argument and threatening to abandon the wagon at side of road - they’d initially said they could come get me when I raised concerns about doing an extra job then went back on their word despite me only being halfhour down the motorway and they wouldn’t pay for me to stay at the services either. Defo wasn’t going to be ■■■■■■■■ in a plastic bag!).
Did some driving for the council too and hated being glued to the seat. I’d been deadlifting in the gym the night before and after two hours my back was cramping so bad I’d have happily switched places with one of the loaders.
I know there are Class 1 jobs that pay better than £40k but it’s doubtful I’d be walking straight into one. On that note how many of these guys that look down on us Class 2 guys actually earn £40k themselves without doing 60hr weeks?
But to be fair Class 2 multidrop is the pits and I’d never do that again. Did some to get experience when I first passed and felt like a van driver but just with more ■■■■ to handball (obv no offence to van drivers or multidrop guys, it’s just not for me).
Anyhow, I apologise if I’ve offended any of you fat knackers.

Being quite frankly one of this countries finest class one drivers I feel I’m quite within my rights to look down on everyone. You’re all scum in my eyes.
Luke. English isn’t my first language, so I can never tell if your being serious or just having a laugh, which is what we’re used too.
To be fair, when I think about it, it’s not dissimilar to how people who become directors likely see themselves as a cut above the senior managers, who probably see themselves as a cut above the middle managers, etc. When people reach ‘the next stage’ they feel they’ve accomplished something over the people that haven’t, and to be fair they have.
But I’m not really interested in getting my Class 1 at the minute. It’s not lack of ambition. It’s more that I like vehicles that have a secondary purpose rather than transporting stuff. I’m about to officially do my HIAB training so I can use it offsite (know how to operate it but only use it onsite to load FEL containers, etc). Next step is to properly learn the FEL trucks which I’ve quite enjoyed so far. There’s just something I enjoy about operating machinery.
In the future I’ll possibly look into mobile cranes as that’s something that interests me, although admittedly I haven’t had much exposure to that type of work. I wonder where they stand in the whole perceived hierarchy of things. Significantly heavier than an arctic but still Class 2. I could be completely wrong but I’m guessing they’re still easier to manoeuvre than arctics, but then again the driving is only part of it.
Ohh yes class one with one trailer , I remember those days , ach now pulling two trailers must put me and other expats on the “next stage”. Like f I do , I would push a wheelbarrow loaded wae crap if it paid a reasonable take home , after all it’s a good home life and a wage we can live on is all that matters in the end.
The way I look at it EVERY driver is a complete and utter brain dead (rhymes with) “Anchor”, though I’m pleased to say the vast majority still manage to prove me wrong.
And just for the record I always flash you lower class citizens in, though there really is no need to get so excited you nigh on break the indicator stalk with the over excessive thank you flashes, you’re welcome peasants.

How about Expat tanker drivers on 4n4 , different league and ball park Jimmy Not to mention the empty roads etc …

Then when I’m getting the cardboard at an RDC (stored by the gate) I get some knobhead in an arctic laying on the horn because he was apparently too important to wait 30 seconds for me. At that point I could’ve quite happily pulled the fat prick out the cab so I just gritted my teeth and ignored him as is usually best in these situations.
Oh no no no no no, I don’t think you did the right thing there. I would’ve dropped what I was doing, slowly walk towards his cab and when he rolls down his window I’d ask him if I’m in his way and if there’s enough room for him to squeeze by (make a statement like ‘Yeah sorry, I didn’t realize I was blocking you I mean another artic just drove by no issues’), then ask him if he comes here often, proceed to tell him about my day, how my career in trucking has been going so far, express my admiration for his big truck pointing at my ‘little’ truck and telling him how I wish I could drive a big truck too some day but my gf left me so I went through a period of depression and some mild drug use until I decided enough was enough and…and…see how far I could take it before he loses his ■■■■ and yells at me, then report him for harassment/verbal abuse. You missed a golden opportunity to entertain yourself at the end of a ■■■■■■ day.

I drive a van self employed.7 hour days. Last year turnover was £79,000 your in the wrong game old chap.
Last time i drove a class 1 was 2009. Jump in a tipper last year for a couple weeks without my cpc. Dont tell anyone. Its a secret.
the maoster:
Turnover is vanity, profit is sanity. I’ve been there with massive turnover (comparatively speaking) with eff all profit to show for it.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
+1
id agree with that.
turnover in some places is nothing, whereas its the nett thats the bottom line.
when i owned my petrol station on the fuel and ciggies side then i took in thousands a week and the profit from that was pennies.
there was more profit from a can of coke and a mars bar, than what there was from £10 of fuel where most of the money went to the tax/vatman.

Taketh hometh profit is around 47,500 then obviously the tax returns on top of that every year on fuel and essentials like food whilst working business meals overnight stays in hotels for potential future business etc.

Easy way to know, if I’m talking about how great a driver I am I’m taking the ■■■■ out of myself, as we all know I’m not very good at driving!

I sometimes do a similar thing when car drivers beep me whilst manoeuvring. I get out and look around the back then give them a quizzical look like “where’s the thing you were warning me about?” Petty but satisfying when I have time.
Lol flat to the mat I bow to tanker trains, do you know if loblaws still run the triple 53 ftrs up to Saskatoon, and haven’t seen the triple / quad wiggle wagons with the day cabs ( store goods) for yrs
