Fnarr fnarr . . ooh matron.
Never trust anyone loading you that says “We have been doing it this way for years and never had a problem yet.”.
Until the ■■■ hits the fan and guess who gets the blame.
If you have barn doors, don’t forget to open them before dropping the trailer on a bay.
big boots:
one of the best balls ups i knew about when a wagon and drag with a pod went in for repair, cab tilted,tv fell out of pod straight through windscreen
Did something simlar myself as a young apprentice at the local Volvo dealer.
Drove the truck into the workshop and made sure everything was stowed away correctly tele behind the seat, suitcase in footwell etc as I had previously got caught out with an obscure tin of beans appearing from nowhere and smashing the windscreen with the cab up. Anyway does all that and tips the cab then hears the crack smash WTF ■■? Turns out the cutting bottles were In front of the truck before the cab was tipped and now they were around a foot inside the cab
verbal warning followed , not for smashing the screen but laughing about it
Let the ramp down after doing a pdi on a brand new F10 all painted ready to go to customers, the ramp controls were on the N/S of truck and I wondered why when the ramp was going down the cab was leaning to the left
went round other side of ramp to find drivers door open and about 2 foot shorter than they normally were because as the ramp came down the weight of the truck was on the door which was jammed on the corner post
Two brand new F12s parked side by side, jumped in one ready for the Lemans type start which was great except it was on full left hand lock and stuffed it into the other. Nearly identical damage on both
Won’t mention what happened after checking the Service Managers oil on his Volvo 240 company car and I didn’t shut the bonnet right lol
As I said earlier only a young lad and somehow managed to survive the Gaffs and clangers . Seen loads in my spannering years , plenty from old hands too
About 10 years ago I tipped a large RDC in the dark. pulled off the bay and closed the doors of the container.went to a scrap yard the next day to load copper wire for china opened the back doors and there was a small fork lift truck.we have a problem I said to the scrap yard owner "no we don’t I"ll give you £150 for it"he said, 5 mins later it was at work and ive never heard a thing about it since

with curtainsiders that have the roofs that open you have to be very gentle when reversing on to bay otherwise the bit of the roof above the back doors pops up and you cant get the back doors closed again with out getting a forklift to push it back down again.
another way of fixing it if there is no forklift around is to throw a ratchet strap over the top of the trailer and tighten it until the roof is closed again, but much easier to not let it happen in the first place.
Try dropping the air in your unit before you hit the bay then the bump stops at the bottom will hit the bay first. it’s not unusual when pulling a euro liner set at 1100 being pulled buy a UK motor with an 12.5o pin for the top to hit first but it’s unusual for the bay doors to be out as far as the bay ( unless you have missed the bay completely) . Not a dig just an FYI
On the old three air line systems tractor unit parking brake does not apply trailer brakes. So don’t pull the fifth wheel without applying trailer brake when parked facing uphill. I did it at Encase Banbury years ago and it is amazing how far the suzies stretch before they break and apply trailer brakes! NB it’s okay I was agency then.
With forgeting to apply the parking brake i am surprised there is no invention to prevent a run away truck.
Many have been killed trying to stop the vehicle.
i was once waiting to be loaded at TNT when one of their artics backed on to the bay next to me still with the warehouse guy from his last drop sitting in the back of his trailer hahaha it was quite funny though he said he knew he should have been empty so when he got the green light he just pulled off and headed onto the motorway back to his depot and never check his back door because everyday their guys pull it down for him befor giving him a green
