Central London, keep her lit

It’s a similar situation at unmanned railway crossings too isn’t it?People are killed or injured frequently at these locations. What intrigues me is that are those involved not even slightly curious about whether a train is approaching or not?Not even a quick glance.

If that road had been wet, then almost certainly there would of been a lycra clad arse with DAF imprinted on it. Close call indeed.
Raises some issues though. There is a mention of louvered traffic lights. Am I the only one to sometimes find that they are almost invisible in daylight at cab height at some junctions?

I definitely agree with that. I did some drops in London the other day…man, half of those things I could not see! Had to really, REALLY, look hard to see red or green.

Really? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a set of lights in that there Lunnon where the red light had a louvred cover - they are usually just on the green and amber lights.

Dont know about London but they do put them on all 3 lights elsewhere. Absolute pain to see esp of they’ve moved.

Why when it’s only there to stop any confusion of red v the green between two seperate lots of closely spaced lights. While amber and red is obviously always fail safe.

These only have a louvred green on the pedestrian lights.Which show amber and red as normal but if they are green they show nothing across the junction so as not to confuse the red at the junction with the green showing at the crossing which is how the idea should work. :bulb:

what is the reason behind the louvres on traffic lights? cant see the lights at all in a truck sometimes

so that the school run mums dont need to squint to see them in direct sunlight, and also so you cant watch the other lights changing to jump yours on amber.
and when you actually watch the wait sign for the mangina brigade, then it just shows them firing off like lemmings doing an amber gambler as soon as the 1st one looks like moving without even the slightest regard for anything round about them, somewhat similar to the way they ride about on the road .
the mails headline should read. IDIOT LEMMING CYCLISTS ALMOST CAUSE DAMAGE TO TRUCK.

No, the idea is to help prevent drivers from seeing (and responding to) the wrong set of lights where there are several sets in close succession or alongside one another at multiple junctions. As a result it is very rare to see louvres on the red light, except for a few locations where the road layout means they are needed. I can’t honestly say I’ve ever seen one, despite being unfortunate enough to spend a fair few hours a week driving in that there Lunnon.

(Edit: I think you may be thinking of the hoods that are pretty much standard fit across the country rather than the louvres that are the subject of this discussion?)

Ray, you must get out more son. Hooded traffic lights are pretty much standard, but there are also a fair few louvered versions about too, both in that there London and in the provinces too.

Like this sort of thing. The second set(the ones with the no left turn sign) always change about ten seconds before the main set as the traffic is stopped on the main road.

Before they fitted the louvres there were a fair few people going on that green.

It’s obviously to stop people confusing the wrong green light but why the need to hide amber/red because that means stop regardless as shown in the example which I posted. While hiding the amber and red is obviously bleedin dangerous especially if anyone is going by that normal logical layout of no lights showing means green.

I know there are lots of louvred lights out there - but only on the green/amber. Very rarely on the red aspect. Which was my point, if you read the rest of the thread.

(And my name’s not Ray, either er - Dad…)

In my view regardless of who’s at fault. All.that green building site fencing doesn’t help…blocks the view of the driver seeing all the bikes behind it waiting. Also stops the bikes from seeing what’s coming.
I can imagine being a few more incidents there. As bikes can’t see what’s coming. They wait for light and hoped a car hasn’t jumped the red light.

all they need to do is to make it mandatory that before being allowed to park their manginas on a bike before putting on their helmet cam ■■■ and drinking a pint of instant attitude problem, they have to sign a written declaration in front of 2 independent witnesses that they have watched this video .job done, then every accident will be down to the bike, because if they had, then there would be no near misses or squashed dweebs…on reflection,im not sure if that would be a good or bad thing?

The lights look to be at red for cyclists at 1.12 at least.

If you look at the ‘WAIT’ light where you press the button, it looks like the cyclists went before the ‘WAIT’ light went out so the trucker could very well have seen a green.

No matter what a traffic light is showing whether I’m a driver or a pedestrian, I always look. Whether or not the driver had a red or green, this bunch of bloody cretins took off without a glance. All right, there’s a hoarding, so look round the bloody thing before pedalling away. What a bunch of low intelligence morons.

That hoarding doesn’t help matters.

And I do.belive common sense is.dying out

Same as.idiots who.walk around.head down on there phones at lights. Not fully aware what’s happening around them.
