Cemex - is this place for real?

cav551:
Perhaps you should have stayed on the floor and yelled for help when you tripped over the kerb which you couldn’t see through fogged up goggles!

put it in to them as a near miss report

The uk has gone OTT with H&S think I’ve worn my steelies 5 times in the last 2 yrs. All of those times have been at Loblaws in Calgary. Bit gutting they cost me $175

msgyorkie:
Look the only way to fight this [zb] is to play them at their own game.
When you fell over because of steamed goggles then you should have gone and filled in the accident book. When that book gets full up of people falling over because of steamed goggles then sure as [zb] stinks then goggles will get banned! Simples! :unamused:

Or they’ll insist on White Sticks as well. Lol.

Goods in manager told me off for not wearing a hiviz while sat inside a portacabin waiting room.
I was sat on the hiviz.
At another Rdc,you need safety boots to walk a few metres from the truck to sit in a waiting room.
Hazard lights.Who thought of that one??If you can not see a big rig,you are not safe to be there.
Does a Jumbo jet taxi to the stand with all lights going like a 80’s disco?

Just heard that one of the drivers sent last night was refused access on site because his brand new hi-viz trousers were the wrong shade of orange. I kid you not. According to the office they had too much red in the colour and despite having the reflective bands they weren’t good enough. WTF. :unamused:

That was an interesting story, i personally would have stood up to them, load or no load, if you have steelies, hi viz/coat hard hat, thats the basic as far as im concerned, ok sometimes goggles, but if its ■■■■■■■ down, dust is going no where. I got stopped in Sotton once because my hat was the wrong colour, apparently, it clashed with the fire staff and cos mine was red, they said i had to have a white one ( one of theirs ) so i told them to do one, and that i wouldnt load their export ( i never had to load anyway, they did it for you ) so promptly headed for the exit gate, only to be told, they will load you ..blah blah but next time..absoluitely over the top and a big fuss about nothing, ive had people tread on my toes to make sure i really am wearing steelies, been told an orange hi viz is unnacceptable, has to be yellow, shorts are not to be worn, and lest we forget, no drivers allowed in the production area, or warehouse…Unless authorised…whatever that means, i`m expected to pick up at A and deliver to B if i wanted to be warehouse man i wouldnt be driving, and was actually told once that if i didnt help to breakdown, i would have to wait longer.,.so what…time is time, and it doesnt affect me.

Oh I am glad I have retired could not put up with all the garbage these days

There’s a paper mill at Ellesmere Port where they won’t load you unless you’re wearing safety glasses because of the possibility of getting a 2 tonne reel of paper in your eye. :unamused:

Last time I was in my local Cemex the staff were moaning because they were in trouble for driving their cars forwards into the staff parking spaces instead of reversing in. I suppose it’s in case they hit somebody while reversing out. I wonder what happens if they hit somebody while reversing in? And if they want to smoke they have to go and stand in a little square frame made of tubing and painted stripey and tucked in a corner of the yard.

That’s all good and well until the H & S bod comes along and declares that because car exhausts are pointing towards the office building its a choking hazard for the office workers indoors.

Some companies prefer vehicles reversed in so that they can evacuate faster incase of fire, some steam rallies enforce the same ruling. Yes, I know that vehicles are now fitted with a reverse gear option… :unamused:

Pete.

I can kinda see that Pete, but in this particular case the car park is on the edge of the site against a hedge backing onto open fields and at least a hundred metres away from the nearest building!

Our firm have that rule in our yard, and most of the Network rail yards and sites we go to.

The reason we are told is for better vision when exiting due to the lorries and machines moving on site. Its one rule I do agree with, better to back into the parking space with the van as the machine ops can see you better, than trying to back out of it where you can’t see alot

I spent 3 years going in there on a daily basis
Most drivers have to have an induction on the tipper side which is done 15 miles away at Watford Gap
Traction on site is almost none the waiting time can anything from 30 minutes to 8 hours
If you are unlucky enough to load clinker the health & safety is a joke hot cement dust enough to destroy any truck paint work
The list is endless…

The reason for reversing in is probably because drivers are too ignorant to allow someone to reverse out and insist upon driving past with their hand on the horn.

You meet them everywhere.

Cemex in Southampton are just as ■■■■. I have full PPE as required, however it’s all yellow. I was told I was not allowed on site unless it was all Orange. I told them to do one and went out.

I’ve also heard from other drivers that they have a right Hitler of a yard manager, who has approached several drivers, some of whom are 30 years plus tipper experience, with a sheet of paper telling them the correct way to tip.

Needless to say he’s been told where to get off several times too. I completely understand the need for PPE, but there is being careful, and being absolutely ridiculous.

I love all their health and safety rules they have, totally ignoring that a little bit of rain and the place turns into an ice rink.

That actually reminds me, I need to get some new safety glasses, mine are so scratched up that I can barely see out of them, but as long as I have them on I am safe obviously.

It will serve the ■■■■■■■ right when all drivers simply refuse to go there. I can see the day coming, drivers are becoming more confident again and all this needless ■■■■■■■■ is going to shut some places down. Bring on the day I say!

It’s getting far too over the top, but you have to understand that the thickies in the profession, (yes there is quite a lot now) will cry wolf at any mistake they’ve made and scream for compensation, so the companies have to cover all angles !
I blame all the americanised " no win no fee " compo insurance bods !

Where has all the common sense gone !
