Not much good in modern motors with all the computerised equipment, they throw the SWR out to much, good chance of blowing the set
I don’t know how that would happen.
Noise from the electronics? More than likely
RF giving the electronics a hard time? Maybe, but I would say unlikely
Throw the SWR out? No way unless you have done something VERY wrong
tippers defo use them, 22. i will need to invest in one at some point, funny listening to some of the stuff i heard whilst being a passenger in another drivers cab…

Mwahahahaa, what a load of ■■■■■■■■.

1, I don’t know either.
2, Not in my computerised truck, the only electronic noise I pick up is my phone charger.
3, you know better than that
4, even if it does throw the swr out, it ain’t going to make your set blow, unless you’ve got MASSIVE boots on and done something VERY wrong

I’m sure thunderpole used to have a good information page.
They had a forum I think. I now have a good setup in my Scania. Full length “stinger” as opposed to one of the short “tipper” versions and just a cheap rig, I can hear I’d say upto 5 miles away in good conditions and adjusting the squelch manually. I get out quite far aswell. Unfortunately I now pick up Vulga Olga and her incredible Ukrainian taxi gang on several channels very clearly. I do like to tell them to ■■■■ off, I know they can’t hear but it does relieve boredom of 40mph on the A41.

I’d like to have a CB but don’t know anything about them, or how to use one
If you have one around Oxfordshire, Smiths Bletchington and AW Cleaver wagons are on Ch36. John Staceys are C10. Smiths of Gloucester I think are 24. Earthline are C5, you can’t mistake the grumpy shovel driver at Shipton on Cherwell quarry It might sound foreign on there at times, it’s not they’re the drivers up from Wiltshire, talking all over each other.
Was in maplins yesterday, and they are selling an AM/FM multi ch CB, are they legal now? and do you “still” need a licence?
And bloody HAMS think they own the airwaves, bloody do gooders!!

AM rigs are still illegal, I think. FM multi channel rigs are ok as long as they’re UK and CEPT channels.
CB licences are no longer needed, they were dropped around 2000.
Make it look like you’re talking to someone, and watch a colleague frantically start fiddling with his cb because he thinks it’s faulty.
I broadcast a right ring stinger across the airwaves a last week. Some voice I didn’t recognise responded with “I hope you’ve ■■■■ yourself you filthy pig!” Then they ranted about tipper drivers ruining cb radios with “filthy talk and racism.” They were soon told to listen to one of the other 39 channels available.
Use them in the agri tractors for contracting in summer, can have teams of up to 14 (mower, rake, chopper, buck-rake and trailers) with up to 12miles field to clamp, priority is given to the guys on the trailers and the rest told to STF up unless its a breakdown/emergency.
Is CH9 still the emergency channel, and does anyone actually monitor it? Do the ■■■■■■■■ truckers still use CH19 and all that “Breaker breaker roger dee” ■■■■■■■■?
