Catering standards offered to drivers

I know a layby cafe or truckstop needs to make money, but drivers know the difference with cheap food ingredients. For spending a bit more, they would get repeat customers and more revenue.
We know it is bought at a cash and carry, the cheapest brand.
For the debate,do you prefer cash and carry baked beans and sausages,or prefer Heinz and a good quality sausage that does not repeat on you all day.?
Always cheap white bread given to drivers.
Why no multigrain or brown bread?

And why instant coffee (shudder)? I was at Avon Lodge last week for an ADR course and haven’t drunk such terrible coffee since I was a student.
I’d aways rather pay a bit more and get good quality food. The sausages found on most truck cafe breakfasts are grim, like condoms filled with meat based slurry.

in cab cooking is the only sensible answer.
Everyone should stop buying from the [zb] holes. Just cook in the cab or use the decent places.

I dont eat white bread at home, So the white bread only option is probably the No1 reason I tend not to eat in canteens, cafes & food vans. Even if you wanted a healthy "salad with" sandwich, its usually served on cheap white bread with high fat spreads & dressings negating the healthy option benefit. There are very few canteens who serve multigrain or brown bread along side the white bread option, the only ones Ive found are the larger sites served by large multisite contract caterers

Or a big Mac meal and they ask for “diet” Coke.
Some on Tnuk may have experienced the French Rouitiers.Clean white lined table cloths.
Waited on like a King.Treated like a human.

Quality everytime for a sausage that’s one thing you just can’t cheat on and that goes for mince too.

Very rarely use Lay-by vans, been caught out a few times in the past with ‘Slop’ disguised as Burgers or ‘Dog’ Rolls (probably was real Dog !)
I usually take enough food for a couple of days or grab a Pasta Salad from a Co-op or a Tesco.
Asda salads are the worst things I’ve tasted-EVER ! How do they get away with it ?

Waitrose on the motorways have decent food but pricey.Quality is very good. The cold coffee is nice.
Muesili bars for snacking or skipping a meal.
The best coffee from a vending machine is from the Palletline Hub by Birmingham airport.
Made with REAL milk in Friesian patterned big cups.
The vending machine at DHL drinks in North London was good.
Hot pannini,ciabata,toasties,pizza,stews,indian and chinese meals.
A code on the pack works out long to microwave it for.
Some supermarkets sell quarter to whole roast chickens to take out.
Plain or bbq sauce flavour but will stink the cab out.
Pizza Hut at Solstice on the A303 at Amesbury are doing large pizza for only a fiver for take out.

I’m parked on the A41 near Arla at Aston Clinton, nearly every layby has a T-coli merchant. This one isn’t that busy, about 2 car drivers have bought something, there’s 3 tippers in it and a curtainsider-none of us have bought anything.
No doubt the vendor is quite annoyed at the space we’ve taken up.
Now awaiting to be shot down for “stopping drivers who want food by parking up and not buying” or “stopping someone from earning”.
…Carry on.

Is that one in the Highway Code?

laybys are there to take breaks,if he gets to sell crap food there that’s a bonus for him.

Dunno I wiped my arse with the last page and threw the evidence into your tipper this morning.

That’s the colour you go after visiting the dog van near Burford School.

you could allways go in convoy following dozy on the hunt for free chips.

Iknow a few farmers who’ll…
…Sorry, thought you said “free tips.”

One where i stop regular is busy all day she has decent fresh bread delivered every morning and uses decent quality ingredients.
Not cheap but decent quality for the price.
