I’d save all my money if I was you. I recently done cat C+E, and got myself a hgv job. Biggest mistake I ever made. The job is awful. Money is terrible, hours awful, Spending hours upon hours on your own and it costs a small fortune to do this. The reason there is so much doom and gloom on this forum is because the job is [zb]. I suppose its handy to have the license in your back pocket for emergencies but if you have a wife, children or friends this job isn’t for you cos you wont get to spend any quality with them.
just my opinion by the way.
I’d suggest that has more to do with your outlook on life, I recently started and it’s the best decision I’ve made. Home each night and earning more than office jobs. I wouldn’t take your first job as the industry. Have a look around and try to think more positively.
Once you’ve passed give me a pm and I’ll get you a job straight away.
I drive tippers out of Cemex in Salford.
Cheers
will take a look at these now thanks, I`Ill hold you too that lol, will give you a pm always worth a shot fingers crossed! thanks again that would be amazing!
I came out of catering & sort of fell into driving ( long story ) I started with small van work then moved up through to sprinters 7.5t etc get use to the road network also drivers hours then took cat c then ce & tbh never looked back
I much prefer driving to the catering side mind even though it is still long hour & pay not that good & treated about the same
There are some companies in the Manchester area that do take on newbies ok the pay not that god but it is steady decent kit although you will probably be out all week

good to know ita possible, I started catering when i was 18 and I have just grown to hate it. Im not in a bad position but I know this job is a lucky find to some degree although it still gets at me. I have to be realistic and plan for a wage cut to some degree but I may pick that up with overtime either via driving or catering if needed till I am back on a similar wage. Hopefully the Mrs might get full time soon and that will help. Im going to book my medical this week from the link of this site and get things going!
Hi everyone, First of all good luck with the theory and everything, you DO need your provisional entitlement on your licence before you take your theory tests!

well I suppose at least I have time to revise! not doing too bad with the hazard perception, getting around 78-80% pass marks around 67% if I remember. Theory im failing getting around 75-80 right but most are truck related questions I am still learning and should be fine come test day. Need to take a look at this cpc training too at some point!

good going! hope mines that quick, although I don’t mind too much I am putting in a lot of revision at the minute. My aim would be to tale my test Late this year or early next year but its not cheap geting your licence so I will do as much training as I can possibly fit in
That was quick I bet you are happy, as for the theory side of things it will take time mate like you said, just practice I failed like ten in a row practicing then it suddenly clicked and I passed everytime and then booked my tests.
good luck in your career change biker10 i’ve been driving hgv1 since 1979…man and boy lol no fannying about doing theory class2 or whatever then! also passed my m/c test as a boy in the '70’s,on a combo…no fannying about with theory 125s or 250ccs either! lorry driving can be long hours, but if your on 48hrs contract you’ll get your hours back with shorter days.or should do.you get good days and bad days, just like any job i presume, but if you hate your present career…it’s time to move on.

so you have been driving since I was born! lol bet you have seen some changes!
looking forward to getting started now but having to wait for the medical. Theory coming on well, hazard thing im getting close to 90% so should be fine in a few weeks when I get my provisional. Slightly worried over eye sight as I have to wear glasses to drive but hoping I am not too bad, I dont think I am ha.

Hey. I have just completed my first week driving a Class 1 (C+E) and I’m 39. Last week I was a self employed carpenter so this can be done but my route is a little different! I’m not gonna high jack your thread but happy to answer any questions via DM or even on here. Just gonna add - didn’t realise you could enjoy work )
