Im not a troll, it was a simple question regarding a company’s responsibility. I just don’t understand how a company that must be worth millions can operate in such a bad way.
Can you quote where I called you a troll please?
Can you quote where mike quoted that you called him a troll?
If I recall correctly, there are mainly two types of weight restrictions on roads: one being environmental (usually having a notice underneath saying ‘Except for access’) which basically means if you need to go in the restricted zone, it’s for making a delivery within it. The other is structural or for other safety reasons which means what it says and doesn’t have any exemptions as there is a danger of road/ bridge failure etc. if you go that way.
Personally, If I seen a sign like the latter, I don’t care what the Office tell me, I’m not going that way. The former, well I would if it meant I was delivering in the zone and not using it as a short cut. I was speaking to a guy from another firm a while ago and he got a notice through his door that was forwarded from his company demanding £200 (with a photograph of his wagon) for breaching ‘For access only’ as the cameras must have tracked him through. It may have been an area that had been picked up as being abused I don’t know, but I’d say it’s only a matter of time before something goes wrong.

The post I, and subsequently you quoted. “@OVLOV JAY Im not a troll” implies I had accused the op of being a troll.
Palmer & Harvey don’t expect you to drive illegally.
What they do expect though is for you to wear appropriate PPE when chiselling off the last 18 months worth of sucker marks off the windscreens, and ALWAYS wear your NBC suit if spending more than 2 hours in the cab.
Disciplinary action will also be taken against you if you return the truck without fresh damage…

No, that’ll be his trip to Exeter tomorrow.
Maybe.
Tesco for example had and probably still have dispensation to deliver to their West Malling store with 5 axle artics, which means crossing this weight limited bridge. IIRC this was based upon the actual gross weight of a typical load for the store. This dispensation was conditional upon the driver carrying a copy of the authorisation. This was printed on the map issued for each delivery. In this case it was mandatory to carry the map even though the store is less than 5 miles from Snodland RDC.

Yep, 12 months. Felt like 12 years. But now I am a Jedi Master V8 driving God, and as such I no longer am restrained by the chains of compliance. The Beaver is a trucking rebel

Remember the wise words from the Jedi master from the low lands young padawan : hoogmoet komt voor de val.
Pride comes before a fall Mule?..but when cushions of ego are in place, it’s a pleasant landing
From the P and H Rulebook;
You must at all times be subserviant to ignorant smelly asian shopkeepers. You must also park on the HGV pumps and inconvenience all the real truck drivers who don’t work as unpaid honky slave shelf stackers to previously mentioned smelly asians.
You must smile and always be cheerful when aforementioned smelly asians slam shop doors in your face, and remain cheerful when they ignore you by speaking in their own native language, often playing with their phone.
You must only obtain a signature after a smelly asian member of staff has ignored you and wandered off to chat to that asian voice everyone hears in the garage shop but never sees.

Hi, I have recently passed my class 2 and started working for a company called P&H. They work the drivers day out in minutes i.e. arrive at drop1 at 0600 depart at 0610 mileage between drops 18KM. Anyway I have been doing this now for 2 weeks but they have got the mileage wrong on most drops. When I asked another driver about this he said the mileage used to be correct. But the company decided to lift the ban on there computer system so now it just routes drivers through 7.5 ton weight limits. This way the company can expect more from the driver.
It makes the driver work faster because on paperwork he will be routed out for about 10.5 - 12 hours so if he don’t want to be to late he will rush. OK I thought that at lease explains why im clocked in for about 13 hours a day sometimes 14.
It seems to me there are many different restrictions that I am supposed to take in to account since becoming an HGV driver. I know I have a lot to learn but why are company’s allowed to route peoples journeys like this?
This company must have 100 trucks in the depot and the hours people are expected to work are really long. Apparently I started with this company at the wrong time as it is only recently they have implemented this new system. Anyway can someone please tell me is this legal for a company to route people through weight restricted roads?
Thanks and sorry for the long winded post.
16 clicks is ten mile. You won’t drive ten mile in ten mins in an hgv.
your licence, your PACE!
stick to it from day ONE.
never deviate, even from the ROUTE.
Correct! My first driving job was multi-dropping in a 26t for a company like P&H. 20/30 drops a day and most of them were hand ball! I just went at my own pace and brought drops back to the depot
needless to say as soon as I found another job I was off!
So if they asked you to go up a one way street or go the wrong way around a roundabout would you do it because the company said its a short cut and you will get to the drop quicker, if you have to come on here and ask what you asked i think you would.
I would take a note of all the roads with weight restrictions, that way you will have your evidence when they call you in for a chat. Run the job how you want to run it, putting the tacho on other work whilst unloading, taking a 45 rest when your hungry etc, and as said if push comes to shove, take some drops back. Of course we all like to do a fair days work etc, but if your pushed to the limit, and expected to finish every drop and run back empty, then they have to be shown the way it should be done…legally…and with consideration to the drivers…and rest periods etc…good luck.
