Not familiar with the thumbs down signal. Maybe never noticed it. I DO flash the bellends that have forgotton to put their lights on when nearly dark and dark. That’s because they are a danger to others and not cos they are just tools.
I NEVER do that, there was a thing going around at one point that as a sort of “gang” initiation thing (in London) was to drive around with no lights on and the first person to flash at you, you had to harm them in some way (shooting/stabbing/beating) and that was how they go into the gang, as far as i know its not happening of late but I will never forget the story, It was sent out in a company letter to all the drivers. (I was not a driver at this point but was shown the letter)
I may be a big girl about it, but I am not one that wants to risk it. I don’t know if anyone else has ever had this letter or seen the same story.
Theres quite a few signals not found in the highway code thats good for newbies to learn, obviously none are reccomended by official cash machine pilots.
By now we all know the thumbs down and warning of problems ahead signal.
Theres the common hazard lights on to warn of sudden slowing traffic, theres also my own one which is a hazard light flick if passing an obsticle or broken down vehicle on a DC.
Theres also the brake light flash if spotting a speed camera van on a DC, obviously one tries to be descreet and not to obvious with this.
One also has to be carefull if using the correct indicators when navigating a roundabout, highly suspicious and almost as bad as driving at 28mph in a 30 with plod up your chuff. Screams the driver has something to hide.
This can commonly witnessed in my neighbourhood whilst doing the Sunday morning everbodies still ■■■■■■ from the night before Mcdonalds bacon and egg mcmuffin emergency dash. Flockin hilarious to watch and sure me local coppers turn a blind eye to this.
can remember some companies had spotlights fitted up with a switch, and you could use then separate, ie both spots flash =stop need to talk .left flash meant something else.etc
a few years ago it was a flash of lights, thumb down and an analogue tachograph in the hand to warn of the traffic gestapo ahead or speed camera usually resulting in a thumbs up from the other driver,i find nowadays when you flash another driver with thumb down you get a blank expression or a look of who the hecks that I don’t know him

It all stems back to the golden days of motoring, warning motorists of speed traps ahead has been going on for many many years.

GORDON 50:
I remember reading in the paper a few years ago about a motorist being taken to court by the police for flashing his lights to warn of a speed trap, first nicking of it’s kind.
He ended up getting off with it because the court insisted the police must prove that somebody actually slowed down as a result, which they couldn’t.
some dude got off with it by arguing that although plod charged him with hindering them,he successfully argued that he was helping them as people slowed down when driving which apparently was the point of the camera in the 1st place…fair play…
