Recently the wife and I where tossing off the idea of getting a Tesla as her current ride needs a wash but on further investigation this Autopilot thingy was very off putting.
To even drive the bloody thing you have to agree to a page of small print which in a nutshell basically says Autopilot is great but don’t rely on it or you will die or at the very least get seriously injured, basically at some point your car will try and kill you, it’s the software you see it’s a bit buggy etc.
Think I’m gonna get her a Mini Countryman Hybrid jobby, 0-60 in 6.3 seconds is tasty enough.
Why is a feature you don’t have to use off putting? It’s not like it’s deadly anyway with a tiny number of over reported incidents. Only people who go against Tesla advice and leave all the driving to the car are at a (small) risk… Don’t like autopilot don’t use autopilot though as a huge lover of adaptive cruise control I’d love to try autopilot
Well it isn’t autopilot then, is it ? If you advertise your product as having autopilot, ie. by strict definition “A navigation mechanism that automatically maintains a preset course” but then you have to press the brakes and steer it yourself when it’s having an off-day then it isn’t autopilot and to advertise it as such should attract heavy penalties from the ASA and whatever the American equivalent is. As best you could call the mechanism “driver assistance” which would be a far more accurate description because you’re required to be in control of the vehicle yourself at all times.
The “tiny number of over reported incidents” is cold comfort to you when you’re sat in your wheelchair paralysed for life after your car accelerated into the back of a fire engine and broke your spine. And that’s if you’re lucky. If you’re unlucky you’d be dead.
I must be missing something as I was under the impression that most people still buy a car based on looks and driving experience as well as economy, never got why people buy Bentley’s etc then let someone else drive them while you sit in the back

I suggest you have a word with Tesla about that. I’m sure they’ll be fascinated by your findings.

I dont rate ACC very highly, but like you, Id love to go play with a Tesla.
Why wouldnt anyone want to try one? Live with one as an everyday driver? Aint got a clue whether itd work for me or not, but if Mr Musk wants to lend me one for a few years I promise Ill give it a fair go.
Because I love the sound of ■■■■ squeeze bang blow too much [emoji6]

There was a guy who sued his motor home manufacturer years ago because he went in the back to make coffee after putting his cruise control on. He sued because no one told him he needed to keep driving it. These are the types of idiots who will have these cars.
Urban myth. i.e. it didn’t happen - It’s a made up story…

Thats as maybe but do you really people there arent people out there stupid enough who think a Tesla car will take care of everything, regardless of what the manual says?
But havent stupid people always obtained (somehow!) driving licences? Many driving Teslas etc today would have passed their test in a conventional car, wouldnt they? And arent these loons better off in a Tesla than a non safety equipped car? OK, there are fools out there driving autonomous cars, but so too are there fools driving ordinary cars. Dont blame Elon Musk, blame the driving test examiners!
You canot blame the test examiners Franglais. One of my best mates was one for 20 odd years, did cars then progressed to LGV/PCV. He actually left the job because he was totally cheesed off at having to pass drivers that were not fit to drive the particular vehicle. Examiners have to follow guidelines and as standards are set so low they have to pass drivers that are not fit to pass or they could end up losing their job. Seeing as I have started I will let you know about another myth about driving tests. Minor faults do not have to be marked on the sheet so all these drivers that boast they only had a couple of faults probably had lots more!

FROM THE article gas gas posted.
“Rights groups in the US have recently called on the country’s Federal Trade Commission to investigate Tesla over the marketing of the assistive driving tool, labeling the name Autopilot “deceptive and misleading”.”

You obviously have a lot of influence Rob k
Seems like a fair assessment to me. By the way, what was your previous banned username?
