Up the page a little you (iirc) said that trying to find a lappy with XP was like trying to find rocking horse whatsit, so me being me was trying to be helpful.

Sorry, yes I see now. I misinterpreted what you’d said. They do have a couple of there but they’re out of my desired price range. I’ve found a nice HP 6715S on ebuyer which has got XP on it and £50 cash back too which is good, especially as I can lose the VAT as well.

I have heard thet vista will not install or play pirated software…? What else won’t it do…?
Most pro audio playback systems won’t work on it and some providers are not seemingly bothered about trying to make there programs compatible. Was told by one that it’s just no good for their application and rather than modify their programs, if Vista 2 (the machine strikes back) is along the same lines, they will have to design the program to suit rather than adapt it.

Hi I have a Acer Vista Laptop 80gb & when veiwed in my computer shows up as TWO 40gb hd’s.
After removing the hd i noticed it is one singe 80gb hd so i cannot figure out why it is split as if ther are two hds.
It makes a lot of sense to be honest. You could, for instance, move your My Documents folder to the second drive, presumably drive D which gives you lots of space for all your pictures, music, videos etc and if you need to reinstall Windows all your stuff will be safe. Most PCs these days seem to come with a recovery disc rather than a Windows disc and often the only option when you use the disc is a destructive one, it’ll wipe everything already on the drive. With the single HDD partitioned into two you can do a destructive reinstall on drive C and all the stuff on the second partition will still be there afterwards. Also, if you ever have to run a disc check or run defrag it will take less time if it has only 40Gb to do than the full 80Gb.
Try
Start then right click on computer and select Manage
A new window opens select Disk Management and you can do what you want resize, delete ,create partitions to you hearts content
You will see a previously hidden partition this is Acers system restore and best left alone
Me personally I got sick of vista formatted the lot created one big partition and went back to XP.

I bought a 6715b from Misco , nice laptop although technically it’s a compaq rather than a HP ( I know it’s the same company now) can’t see the offer they had now though and still waiting for my £50 cashback

Denis, the 6715b is different to be 6715s . I’ve used Misco loads of times before and never had any probs, but it’s cheaper on Ebuyer.com at the moment.
Have you thought about getting a External Hard Drive, these can be picked up really cheap now, Lacie 301283K 250GB External Hard Drive £46.99 on ebuyer.com, i know it does not solve your problem but these are very handy and portable, also easy to copy music and stuff from friends pc/laptop, ideal for backing up all items from a small laptop
ive got vista on both of our laptops mine came with 1 hard drive at 120gb
and the missus came with 80gb split into 2 40gb …missus had to be reinstalled cause she had a virus on it …when i reinstalled vista on it, it changed to 1 80gb…as for people not liking vista…i hated it at first but once you get used to i think it is a lot better than xp…for people looking for a laptop with xp on it brand new dell sell them online but they will charge more for the same laptop with vista on wich is a bit naughty but hey ho
