Bking:
Went for an interview at a large supermarket distributors the other week as a “truck mechanic”
(been doing fleet work for 35 years)

They emailed me tellin me I didnt have the right “attitude” and my job application had failed .OK who gives a [zb],I still work for there biggest competitor and I earn 16 quid an hour cos not braggin no [zb] I know my job.

Last Friday the cheeky mothers rang me telling me they had reconsiderd there position and now could offer me the job on a rate of 12 pounds an hour.

Guess my reply Waitrose,. Go shove it where the sun dont shine.
Go get one of the ■■■■ in a suit to repair the trailer hub that fell off cos one of your collegues dont know how to repair a [zb] trailer.

About time all these “companies” started to realise you can hire any useless prick in a suit but can he keep your truck on the road? Pay me or go out of business .

Thats it my man, tell 'em. Tossers

Don’t understand why they gave you a second chance, it is clear they were correct in their first email …

I will agree it can be embarrassing working in a main dealer when a new model comes out and it has a fault…As not matter what course you have done it is a learning experience and no one not even the manufacturer knows what will go wrong .After all they are road tested with professional drivers driving it how it should be driven ,then it hits the real world…But to say fleet mechanics will know more is ridiculous,as soon as a warning light flickers it goes straight to the dealer as it is under warranty ,then when it is out of warranty it still goes to the dealer …Most fleet mechanics are quiet happy with that set up and enjoy just doing servicing and inspections, and respect to them for that …But find me fleet mechanic that knows more than what I do about the new XF ,as I have already done an intro on the vehicle. You would also know not all dealers are Main Dealers with a sales dept ,there are service dealers only …Having been with DAF for 18 years ,I will agree that at times they where slow with UPEC & DMCI ,and seem to have reacted to us asking when EURO 6 courses would start …But I can never ever see how a fleet mechanic will ever know more about a new model than the dealer …Obviously in all walks of life you get the idiot that shouldn’t bee allowed out be that dealer mechanic fleet mechanic or driver

It can be extremely embarrassing to be working for a main dealer when a new model comes out. In the months that follow, the fleet mechanics tend to know more about the vehicle than ones from a dealership. Other than new vehicle preparation and warranty work the dealer may well see little of the vehicles, because the day to day niggles get dealt with by the fleet guys. Dealers seem to react very slowly to new models; it may well be 2 years before an individual goes on a factory course. I well remember being at a dealership when the franchise changed from Leyland DAF to MAN.

We know Norb.

Don’t bite, Bking’s just on an ego trip and wanting attention.

We had problems with a new model Iveco, went back and forth to the dealers with the same fault. We were getting sick of being told something different every time.
In the end, an apprentice told me that because it was a new model, no-one really knew what was going on with it. I respected the lad for being honest, and just wished they’d told us that in the first place, rather than ■■■■ n bull stories.

Your analysis of the fleet motor mechanic is accurate in my view - yes, they work on a varied fleet, but no, most problems with new trucks go to the dealers.

Are you not being paid to do this? Because if you are being paid, what are you complaining about? stop whingeing, chill out and worry about something more important. Life is too short - especially at your age!
