A Herefordshire number on that Foden cc. I wonder who had it new.
Cheers Dave.

Could it be ex-Bulmers, perhaps?

You could be right Casey, someone will know. Pontrilas Timber had a few Fodens as well.
Cheers Dave.

Of course they did- I’d forgotten about them. I was so used to seeing ERFs in the Pontrilas fleet.

Them fodens always looked heavy on the drive axle or perhaps it’s my eyesight …

No Keith. C W Griffiths didn’t have a Herefordshire reg on theirs. Roberts Ross Roadways had theirs.
Cheers Dave.

I think that the weight of the sleeper makes the cab sit down at the back, at Tilcon we had one unit that pulled the bitumen tanker and that cab sat lower than the day cabbed eight wheelers. I thought that the sleeper cabs would have had uprated cab suspension units fitted but presumably they didn’t?

Pete.

I spoke to the m d of H.Lewis& Co. BCJ502V was new to Robbins of Swansea. It had rolls royce 290 engine, which they soon pulled out because it was too heavy on fuel and fitted a ■■■■■■■ E290 out of a written off Foden.I hope this solves the mystery.

Good to know the history of these vehicles Graham. Thanks for solving that one.

Great picture chepstowchap.

I had two mastiffs in 1970 and brother Andy and myself took many loads of timber from Coed y Brenin to Wigan. We sometimes went through Dolgellau and sometimes up to Trawsfynyd, either way ending up at Bala. Then over Llandegla moor. If it was night you could see the ‘eternal flame’ from the Shell refinery at Ellesmere Port from the moor.

From the look of the photo they’re still felling timber in that area.

John.

Hello Dave and John ,
A slight mishap concerning the above image/location ,it was in fact shot near Aberystwyth on the A44 , though cc has noted the company in the Dolgellau area . cc .
