Busy Mr Trump

You don’t think that a deal,
in which the developed west buys poor quality manufactured goods from China, putting our own workers on the dole, so that China can use the money earn’t to buy up the world’s food and natural resources reserves and to invest in weapons in case anyone has the sense to say no,
is a zero sum game in which poor westerners eventually freeze and starve ?.
You probably also believe that the Irish starved for lack of potatoes in the best meat and dairy producing part of Europe.
Or don’t believe that while Live Aid were singing about lack of food and water in Africa, Africa actually had a thriving food export industry as the waters flowed over the Victoria Falls.

Which countries does the US have a trade surplus with counting out Euroland and Far East.
Possibly NZ.
Obviously it’s NZ trade surplus won’t cover it’s Euro and Far Eastern trade deficits.

Don’t take it up with me, take it up with the original poster who said that the US was a net exporter. I merely commented on that.

Would you like to expand on this comment. Not sure what you’re saying.

He probably also thnks it was silly to build Windsor Castle so near to Heathrow.

It’s easy to mock, but some folk just don’t recognise the obvious!

I’m thinking of the historians who marvel at the creation of Stonehenge and question just how the stone was brought to site from North Wales. To me it’s obvious ; that’s why they built it right beside the A303. Excellent transport links!

It’s not rocket science.

They should have waited and they could have put it next to the M4.

That A303 is a pig of a road

Yeah but they probably looked at the lane closures near Gloucester that started when Boudicca was racing chariots along there and decided that time was of the essence.

No…

Hadrian took advantage of the proximity of the A69 to build his wall.:zany_face:

Back on topic…
Trump is backing down on his tariffs. There are rumours that the tariffs have been dropped to the Heard and McDonald Islands.

Using the same tactics as China the Islanders have not been negotiating wth Trump. They have not been kissing his ass, and have not even answered phone calls from the Whitehouse.
Trump has been outsmarted by bird brains. Go Penguins!

I dont get why you’re banging on about trumps tariffs when he is doing it for the exact same reason you bang on about how the uk is supposedly exporting less because of brexit

He’s like a big kid mate :joy:, …mega smug and gloating, (neither of which are an attractive trait btw) because he thinks things are going ‘‘his way’’, and not going Trump s way in his eyes.

Got to say btw I loved this bit .

:joy:
No but in your head on here you are, …and YES you DO.
:joy:

Early days in the US scenario so far, so nothing is done and dusted.

Whether they like it or not, contrary to popular opinion Trump is NOT a fool..
He s ways are a bit …unorthodox shall we say, but that is part of the appeal to the voters who elected him.

At last! proof that Trump is living with and being advised by, our very own Slartibartfast -AKA Carryfast - on one of the latter’s creations, drifting in its chaotic irregular oscillating rotation, last heard of somewhere slightly beyond K2-18b. :upside_down_face:

"Speaking in the Oval Office during a bilateral meeting with Norwegian prime minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Trump insisted to reporters that he is putting pressure on Russian president Vladimir Putin behind the scenes as reporters asked him what he would ask the Russian leader to give up to match the massive territorial concessions he has asked Ukraine to make as a way to find an end to Europe’s bloodiest conflict since the end of the Second World War.

Trump replied: “Stopping the war, stopping [from] taking the whole country.”

He added that not seizing all of Ukraine’s sovereign land — the goal Putin had laid out when he launched the war in February 2022 and which was foiled by Ukraine’s military resistance — was a “pretty big concession” in his view.

Trump’s bizarre and nonsensical comment glossed over the fact that Putin had always wanted to occupy and control Ukraine’s land and erase it from the map as an independent nation, thereby reassembling a large portion of the former Soviet Union and Russian empire. The reason Russia has not succeeded in that aim isn’t because Moscow has magnanimously declined to carry out an occupation, but because Ukrainian forces have kept Russian troops from advancing through most of the country."

There aren’t enough words, expressions, emojies, possible to counter that…

I just wrote summat as being OTT and sarcastic
“Putain cut off your leg, raped your daughter, kidnapped your son, and took your wife’s car? He stopped doing more because you thumped him in the face?”
“Well good for Putain.” “He didn’t kill your wife, He didn’t cut off your arm and you still have another car. Just shows what a great and generous guy he is!”
But honestly? It reads like a genuine Whitehouse statement.

Trump wants to get a better balance of trade in goods and more US jobs? Good.
His actions with tariffs are, according to just about every economist, likely to do more harm than good to balance of trade and US jobs. His actions are likely to make thngs worse. for the US as a whole. And also for the rest of the world.

Brexit was meant to make UK citizens better off.
Most economists said it wouldn’t.
It demonstrably has made the UK worse off.

In both cases the stated aims were good.
In both cases the actions are doing more harm than good.

Are these the same ecconomists that say reeves has done a good job and that our exports have fallen since 2016 because of brexit?

The issue is the likes of the eu and china etc have had it too good for too long so they dont wish to give up their advantage. However rather than being adult about it and opening negotiations as trump tried to they decided to act true to form and spit their dummy out. You cant reason with people like that and they only way to deal with them unfortunatly is tit for tat otherwise you end up worse off.

Incidently this is why many wanted to leave the eu.

Did the migrants go home even though all they had to do to stay here was proove they had paid tax and ni for the duration of thier stay here… of course they did. Wages went back up to 2000ish levels not just in the driving sector but all sectors flooded with migrants.

Our exports have gone up rather than rappidly falling since 2016.

The issue is johnson was stabbed in the back by his party they then listened to the likes of the rha that shouted driver shortage when the only shortage was people willing to work for a very little over minimum wage with all the crap discussed on here adnausium.

The other thing sunak did was bring in a rule that you can pay foreign workers 10% less the going rate for British workers. So all the crybaby companies have reverted to type and the inherently racist system is back.

Dont forget all this started with canada and mexico refusing to do anything about their border security. Then the rest of the world stuck their beak in.

This is what china is like you think you can reason with people like that?
