Buzzer posted this magnificent cut-away illustration on the Past & Present thread this morning, but I reckon it deserves a place on here! It looks like an SLT to me and as there is a reg plate showing, no doubt someone will come up with the SLT number!
STL1301 from 1936
I had a feeling you might come up with the goodies - well done! The drawing rather reminded me of the splendid cutaways that used to appear in Eagle/Swift comics in the 1960s. I remember there was one of a Midland Red BMMO motorway coach and also one of a Guy Wolfrunian double-decker; but Iâve never seen them since. I have always considered the STL to be the most handsome London Transport bus. I think those mid to late '30s ones were bodied by Chiswick.
NOTE 1: Because of London Transport bus and motorcoach overhaul and re-build methods, chassis and original bodies were rarely,if ever,re-unitedâŚhence the two body numbers!
NOTE 2:The vast majority of STL Class Omnibuses had LPTB=London Passenger Transport Board bodies, while other examples had Weymann,Park Royal, etc bodies;the earlier ST Class Omnibuses had bodies by a variety of coachbuilders such as LGOC=London General Omnibus Company,Ransomes,Short,Strachans, etc.
NOTE 3:Some Prewar And Postwar London Omnibus And Motorcoach Class Codes, based on the article on this subject in Classic Bus,No.50,December 2000-January 2001.The code list within this article is supposed to be the definitive interpretation, but in at least some cases,a single letter,or more than one letter,or even all letters are open to different interpretations! In addition to the main code list there is an Alternative Explanations list of certain codes, some of these alternatives make far more sense and far more logical than the usual interpretations! And the author of the above article is not one hundred percent sure that at least some of the interpretations are definitive! He could be wrong in regard to some codes!
The letter T,for example, features and haunts a substantial number of London bus and motorcoach class codes. Some of these T codes make sense and are logical, such as TR for TigeR - Leyland Tiger,TD for Titan TD - Leyland Titan TD,and so on. But other T codes are mysterious in at least in regard to the letter T on its own and also in combination with other letters: The letter T supposedly doesnât stand for anything other than to act as an identifier and was picked out of the alphabet virtually at random.
One story says that T stands for Tyres - pneumatic tyres on buses and another story says that T stood for covered tops on double decker buses, but both stories have rightly been dismissed. Several books on London buses and motorcoaches written by so-called âexpertsâ make no attempt to explain some, and in some cases, all of the codes
Anyway, there is an explanation for certain T codes and it is logical, makes sense and beautifully fits in with the operatorâs business of people transportation
In 1929 the AEC company introduced the AEC Regent 4x2 Double Decker Omnibus - LGOC ST Class ,the AEC Renown 6x4 Double Decker Omnibus - LGOC LT Class and the AEC Regal 4x2 Single Decker Bus & Motorcoach - LGOC T - Type. A substantial number of these models and their variants - and later models - were sold to,and operated by,LGOC=London General Omnibus Company and, from 1933,its successor LPTB=London Passenger Transport Board. A substantial number of all these models also sold to many other bus and motorcoach operators both in the United Kingdom and abroad.
The T letter in the above codes appropriately stands for Transport! This fact will become even more apparent in the prewar London Bus And Motorcoach Class Codes Lists below
A freight or a combined freight-passenger aeroplane is referred to as a âtransportâ,and the London Passenger Transport Board has transport in its
title,so to classify a single model of bus,or a group of models of buses,as transport is very appropriate.

I drove this MB O302 daily for years back in the '80s. Fitted with the OM 360 192 bhp engine and a 5-speed gearbox. Manual doors and unefficient heating, but brilliant engine and excellent roadgrip, especially on snow and ice.

Yes Ray, Northern area from Dundee north to Fraserburgh and Peteread and west to Elgin with HQ at Aberdeen. The original livery would have been Walter Alexander&Sons cream and blue.

Some more great pictures Eddie. I remember the green bus when it was with Fishwicks of Leyland.
I had a search for detail, and it comes up as a VDLâŚDoes that mean it is a Volvo ? The 2 bus chassis
on the Boyes artic are frequently seen near me on the M6, and I usually assume they are from Dennis
at Guildford and en route to Alexanders at Falkirk. Regards, Ray Smyth.

VDL are the old DAF & Bova set up. This one is an SB200. Dennis stopped production at Guildford about 15 months ago. They now get their own chassis built in Farington but I believe that Boyes also collect the BYDâs that are currently imported and deliver them to Falkirk. The E500 chassis for Berlin (198 of them) that are currently being built in Farington are bodied at Scarborough. When this order is completed I believe that there are plans for the BYDâs to then be assembled at Farington along with what little orders (if any) they are taking for diesel engined and possibly hydrogen buses.

Leyland Motors at Farington and Plaxton at Scarborough. Ray Smyth.
