Bus hits bridge

hmm

Interesting to learn it’s the risk of naming and shaming that stops you doing things and not, like , you know, doing the right thing. On my big incident with the ditch it wasn’t that people kept shouting my name as they drove me and my lorry in a ditch that made me more careful, it was not wanting to put my lorry in a ditch again.

Have you not got it yet? Basically Winseer thinks it was either a Muslim or an Eastern European and would just like to validate his racial bias by knowing a name. That’s it. Nothing more, nothing less.

It makes no odds to me if I know a name of someone who ripped the roof off a bus 300 miles away. The facts are that it happened, people are injured, and locally people will know who it was.

Ohhhhhhhh I hadn’t thought of that!

Again, it is you who put the stereotype up that anyone “Fasting” has to be a Muslim, and anywhere I’ve slagged off EEs when I have not, and in any case most of my work colleagues are EEs. I’m only against Criminals who come to this country illegally to start with, and as such are criminals on arrival. These people, regardless of where they come from are the ones that go onto being put up in Travelodges and get to claim off our benefit culture, which also grates with what should be every UK worker in the country, not necessarily those born here, or even born in non-EU countries.
You got that yet?

If I were to put up the equivalent “bias” believed of the Left - it would have to be that “Criticising a Banker” who NEED to be criticized - means you are Anti-Semitic as Corbyn found, because an awful lot of Bankers happen to have grown up Jewish… (Chances are, they are no more practicing Jew than Sunak is a practicing Hindu…) Also, notice how easily the Left commit hypocrisy by criticizing Suella Bravermann, a woman of colour no less…

There are no Fascists among Antifa.
There are no “Islamophobics” in the Tory party.
There are no “Anti Semites” in the Labour Party.
There are no Anti-UK in the Libdems.
There are no Fossil Fuel Users among the Green Party
There are “Independent UK” persons among the Independent MPs.

If you accept the above six lines are fundamentally TRUE, then Congratulations - you carry on the way you are, and be among the divided and ruled.

If you accept the above six lines are NOT true, then Congratulations - welcome to the world of Joined-Up Thought.

My suggestion is if you make the social label of merely “Criminal” or “Illegal” - it would heal a lot of the divisions in society, by placing discredit where discredit is due. People shouldn’t be able to side-step being brought to justice - merely because they can play the Race, Faith, Nationality, or Culture card appropriately…

What do you think is going to happen to this shopkeeper for trying to protect the business they are about guarding?

Someone center-right like myself would say “Nothing!”, but only a Juror is in a position to excercise that right…
Someone on the left would argue that it is a “racist hate attack”, and the shopkeeper should go to jail.
Someone on the far right would argue that the shopkeeper should “run over them a second time” - which is an extreme I do not subsribe to.
I am Left on Finance, Socially Center, and Right on Law and Order. No “Far Left”, no “Far Right”, and VERY ANTI “Far Liberal”.

Let’s call things what they are, and stop back-walking every single political argument, right or wrong.

What do you think motivated the riot in Cardiff last night?
“Police Brutality”?
“Any particular Race, Creed, Nationality among the Perpetrators in said Riot”?
…or was it an unfortunate accident, caused by two kids making a game out of ‘resisting arrest’, which somehow justified an entire neighborhood dropping out of law-and-order society for a few hours?

We know what Labour’s answer would be: “Cancel the Police”.
The Tory answer - isn’t be much better "Further reduce police powers. Make police accountable more when fugitive criminals come to grief during “police chases”.

Notice I use present tense here…

My answer? - Stop persecuting UK citizens, be they born here or not - and make being “British” something to covet again, rather than some treasure island culture sought by the worlds social flotsam.

To have a job and be paying taxes in the UK means you’re already legal to BE here.
Where’s the government support for those already here rather than those illegals still trying to get here illegally when so many legal routes into this country are still openly available for them?

Fair enough, there are some aspects where me and CF are on the same page.

NOT so for the majority of stuff me and him argue about though, but if you cut off halfway through either of our posts, you don’t get to find that obvious though - do you?

Just for the record, we are not one and the same person.
I am not Batman.

There’s some of my staunchest opponents on here that occasionally find themselves on the same page as me as well.
Doesn’t make any of us right or wrong, or a better/worse person for it.

“Healthy Debate” is all it is when two opposing opinions can be fleshed-out so a good, strong argument both for and against can be made by either side.

Having politics that is too dismissive of further unpopular, divisive behaviour though? - The ones to blame for all that - are the ones you see among society least of all.

I mean, where DID all this Politically Correct nonsense - come from?

Blimey. I’ll get back to you when I’ve found some time in my diary to read that. Don’t hold your breath

Winseer:

It came from centuries of hate directed at anyone who didn’t fit a very narrow band of what people defined as normal, that’s where. The people who whinge about political correctness are usually those who are in that narrow band. The rest of us are just happy to be able to live our lives without being hated for who or what we are.

The one in Winchester 3 years ago that was a school run that was the same route I drove a college route along for a different company. It was a single decker route BUT on rare occasions you had to take a double decker. This meant you had to remember to turn left before the bridge. All the deckers had height warning alarms too.
When bus driving it’s so easy to go into autopilot. If your on a bus and it misses it’s turn it’s probably because the driver has just switched service and he was driving a shared route up to that point.

Winseer:

Negan:
Its been around 10 years since I worked for First so not sure about now but back then there were no bus routes in cook street. After half a dozen drivers running out of service used cook street and hit the bridge with double deckers they banned all drivers from using the street at all even in single deckers.

My guess is hes fairly new and went left there thinking that was the road he needed to get over the clyde and into the city centre when in fact ir was nelson street further down he should have used

Spare a thought for our Eastern European colleagues who have to understand our roads in English, a foreign language to them, in Imperial, a previously unknown measurement system to them, and of course “strict instructions written down” that they might get three lines into, and fudge over the rest, and just sign that they’ve “read and understood it”…

C’mon man - a lot of US would be doing that too, right?

How do you think you’d fare - attempting to say, do a run with a pickup in Warsaw, and then going on to deliver it to say, Moscow using a Bulgarian Tom-Tom?

Eh?

If he’s got any sense he won’t try to claim “I didn’t know…” The bridge signage is pretty darned clear by anyone’s standards (by “anyone” I mean any rational person, I’m pretty certain at least one person on these boards will have an alternative version of events  )

I feel for the driver. The 1st bridge was OK then the second is low. There were diversions in place. The bus company will be in the dock too. Every time there are diversions it needs a little bit of local knowledge.
