Terrifying moment London tourist bus driver mounts pavement to stop two cyclists before getting out of his seat to yell at them in road rage attack | Daily Mail Online

Good

As someone with both HGV and PSV licenses myself, that bus driver quite rightly deserved to get the sack. I’m not fond of cyclists myself but you don’t take a bus loaded with passengers up onto a footpath and start bawling at other road users whatever the provocation. It is not only unprofessional but dangerous. Someday he’ll behave like that to the wrong person and wake up in hospital somewhere.

In my opinion they should be made to pay road tax. You, me and every other driver pays it, what gives them a free pass?

The CO2 emissions of a bike are 0. Therefore, their ‘road tax’ bill would come to precisely £0.00, just like all low emission vehicles already. Not really worth the expense of enforcement really is it?

The cost isn’t based on C02 emissions.

The accumulated Road Fund was never fully spent on roads (most of it was spent on resurfacing, not the building of new roads), and became notorious for being used for other government purposes, a practice introduced by Winston Churchill, when he was Chancellor of the Exchequer.[citation needed] In 1926, by which time the direct use of taxes collected from motorists to fund the road network was already opposed by many in government, the Chancellor Winston Churchill is reported to have said in a memo: “Entertainments may be taxed; public houses may be taxed…and the yield devoted to the general revenue. But motorists are to be privileged for all time to have the tax on motors devoted to roads? This is an outrage upon…common sense.”[26] Hypothecation came to an end in 1937 under the 1936 Finance Act, and the proceeds of the vehicle road taxes were paid directly into the Exchequer. The Road Fund itself, then funded by government grants, wasn’t abolished until 1955.[40]

as has been said road tax wouldnt apply to cyclists,!!! but they should have a reg plate so they can be held accountable in my opinion, a lot of them cause havoc then disappear and now with all these nobs with headcams theyre out to nab anyone who breathes towards them but im sure all truckers know that by now

No you’re missing the point.

Everybody pays for the roads equally, there is no such thing as “Road Tax” so they are paying just as much towards roads as you are.

It has been the case for a long long time.

As was said earlier the incident which I just watched is a storm in a tea cup. Nothing.

The bus driver would have looked stoopid if he’d gone through a manhole. I feel sorry for him though cos one incident where you get ■■■■■■ off and you get your marching orders. Very easily done, but not with a load of passengers.

I think all these cams are not helping. I put an app on my phone and tried it out on my dash for a couple of days. I found it changed the way I drove. I felt more confident that if any one wronged me I’d have them bang to rights. I think they can put people in the wrong frame of mind, like they are looking for trouble.

A cyclist with a head cam and a lorry driver with a dash cam are the same people.

IMO cyclists should have complete right of way as they do in some countries, I think motorists should be educated better about not only cycling but also the rights a cyclist has on the road and if need be education regarding the costs and economies of the road traffic system within the UK

A lot of engine driven vehicles seem to be driven by people in a rush, I ask and wonder what are these people rushing to do ? is it to sit and drink tea or sit and watch TV, I have never understood this rush mentality on the roads,

Funny I drive my truck at max 56mph my van usually around 56 on the motorway and slower on other roads and then I found myself saying to another cyclist I’ve decided 58mph is my limit above that I get speed wobble and it scares me wit less.
I live in Devon and I would say cars hold me up far more often than I hold them up though I am one of those lycra clad gang whom rides a bike worth more than the average car.

thank god they dont have the right of way.if they ride safely im happy to see some one enjoying a cycle but the ones who cut through red lights while its a green light boil my urine, also the ones who weave in and out traffic so unsteadily its scary but the biggest hate is kept for the fuds who ride side by side taking up a lane.maybe bike riders should have to sit the cycle course school kids used to do by law then they have no reasson for not having a clue

Looooo:
We do pay road tax.

Roads are funded out of general taxation.

All tax payers, and road users, not just motorists, pay proportionately for the roads.

yes tax payers do pay for the roads that’s true, but motorists have to pay extra as you know to use the road via the tax disc so you should as well [for a pushbike]maybe £20 a year, but having said that I very much doubt cyclists and motorists will ever learn to get on with each other,i think we both make it our mission to dislike each other, its a fact of life that will never change unfortunately

Another gimp on a pedal bike who only shows half a story

Yeah this is true, sadly for the driver he is the story in this video. I’d love to see cyclist brought to justice in the same way every other road user is when they break the law or drive/ride dangerously. Seen a couple of people including a elderly woman ploughed down by a cyclist… never ever stopped, got up and rode away.

Left hand down!:
Storm in a teacup. Typical cyclist nob.

Yuuuupp! that said, I’m quite a keen cyclist, but know when not to take the ■■■■. That bus driver would have got the sack in Cambridge for behaving like that, no matter what the provocation. Cyclists in Cambridge are the equivalent of sacred cows in India, no matter that they run lights, ride on pavements, have no lights or light coloured clothing at night, the list goes on, and we just have to put up with it.

have no lights or light coloured clothing at night

I amazed anyone in Cambridge owns either of these two items

Seriously when I went there it seemed to be a competition to see who could ride the most retro, old school, rusty heap; whilst dressed like Dr Who!

A bit of respect and re - education all round wouldn’t go a miss.

I had a cyclist dismount his bike after an emergency stop in front of me yesterday after I tooted my horn at him for riding two abreast on a narrow country road, I thought his demeanour as he approached my car as I was getting out may of changed looking at 22 stone and 6ft 4’’ of farm lad, but it did not, he swung a punch straight off, one split nose and a closed eye and decked twice he still seemed keen, very strange, I think its the adrenalin!!

You should parked his bike right up his ■■■ hole

I didn’t see any road rage there, just a prat in a bus whinging at was probably a prat on a bike. If you’re gonna get the bullet for that, you might as well thump him as well. :imp:
