Building sites

Used to pull a bit out of there when I was on Taylor’s.
Sound enough

I work mainly out of Swadlincote not Steetley only go in there very occasionally .

I do nothing but building sites. Most of what you need to know to get started has already been mentioned. It takes a few years but eventually you get a sixth sense when something’s not right with an address or the way your sat nav is sending you.
Also, if your reversing skills aren’t up to much you will certainly get some good training at some of the places you’ll end up, eventually you’ll even lose your fear of the blind side!!!
As for the mud and dust, yes it is a problem but try to keep it contained. Keep dirty clothes and gloves in a side locker and the muddy feet in the drivers footwell only. Always have a loose rubber mat in the footwell so you can easily take it out and wash it off at the end of the day. Baby wipes are great for wiping dust from the rest of the cab.

If you are tramping you wont have local knowledge. Delivering to places that are not on the map or sat-nav can take a bit longer than you would think.

Not being silly, how would I find it? Am I likely to get some directions rather than a post code?

Thanks for all the comments and advice above

Directions! Hahahahahaha.

Your lucky to even get a road name where your actually supposed to be.

Nope, afraid you are left to find the site entrance by yourself, then when you get there you will probably get the whole “we didn’t think you’d come an artic driver, we normally only have rigids here”

Bit of a strange one 4 on 4 off as most building sites don’t operate at weekends so I’d say it isn’t all building site work.

Rail and highways jobs work 7days in places

Maybe they’re preparing you for some of the ridiculously over the top H&S stuff thst goes on on some sites these days?

I had a delivery to one pub, I was in 18t rigid, stopped in front, walked in, asked lady, she sad just go around, I will meet you at the back entrance, when I went there I looked in disbelief if I’m in the right place, as entrance to the back yard was hardly wide enough for a car, parked on the street and had to pull pallet of beer just using pump truck, it was really heavy…After lady sad: " I didn’t know your lorry is so big…"
