Loaded & ready to roll, right now the important stuff, where we stopping for breakfast?
This a shot taken at Distington Engineering,Workington in the 1950âs,I believe that during the ânationalised eraâ when there was a big shipping order the local BRS depot at Howgate,Whitehaven, couldnât cope so they would draught in motors from other areas.Great shot! and there are other shots âfloatingâ about of BRS motors leaving DEC with similar loads.Cheers Bewick.
EH was Stoke on Trent and FA Burton on Trent Dennis.

Great shot of the old Seddon a 1950 Model, They were a very popular motor in their day, Very popular in the Newcastle upon Tyne Region, Regards Larry.
Why were they popular in the Newcastle upon Tyne region? Was there a big Seddon dealer there that pushed there sales, or were they just suited to a certain type of traffic up that way? Regards Chris
The Seddon Dealer in the earley days was the Co-op I believe, But then it was Longfield Motors at Darlington who in later years Became Sed?Akis, Then ERF, Then MAN Who are now based on T.V.T.E Gateshead., There was a few local Newcaslte Hauliers who ran those Seddons Eg, J R Adams Nixon from Wideopen, F.Short & Sons Ltd, The CO-OP Too, Crows of Gateshead had a couple, Regards Larry.

Thanks for the infoâ, always interesting to hear the old Company names etc . Regards Chris
We had an old Seddon like that in the 60âs but it was an ex BRS unit with a 5lw in it, IIRC it had the accelerator between the brake and clutch pedals, does anyone remember what model it was? It had been used for years as a shunter and got the gas axe after the cab fell to bits.

Hi Chris . There were very many of these mk5 Seddons on BRS early 50s . particularly at theOxford depot -well suited for Nuffied exports large cases. i would dearly love to find the artic/carrimore trailer version picture on these threads and i seem to remember that the BRS forward orders for them amounted to 2 years production.spec was Perkins P6 ,David Brown 5 speed ,eaton 2 sp axle, starting assisted by Ki-gas paraffin /petrol mix hand pumped in whilst manifold heater on in winter .proved a very reliable motor -a payload of 10/12 ton --trailers were Carrimore with king pin set well back allowing the front to be close to back of cab and a bed length of 25 ft ,We had a full set of trailers -flats, boxes, bolster. tilts. low loader etc .very versatile --oh and of course restricted to 20 mph , well thats what the plate said !!! . regards ivor
