Bough this photo off ebay , Think it is Banbury depot , unusal to see a Brs truck blinged up

This truck was driven by Fred Holiday , the day it started engine breathing he was on his second run and he called in to say it was not running very well , we had scrapped it within a hour , Fred was not happy as he looked after this truck very well and they said he would be having a second hand truck rental Roadtrain , but fred did not want nights away and with his new truck being a sleeper ment there was a good chance he would be away during the week .
He never did sleep in that truck , thats when you could get away with a " dodgy "

Found this picture for sale , think Swindon depot has some of these on the Bl contract but this is a Southern Brs , which depot would this be from ?

That “NU” reg is Nottingham Jakey. Not sure where BRS Rental was in Nottingham, could even be Derby.

Hi Lads,
Does anyone have any pics of Liverpool based vehicles from the 50/60s.
I would like to get the markings right for a Bedford O LWB kit I will be making.
Any help appreciated please.

The clue is on the trailer.
This was a Beccles based motor, started life brown with Eastern BRS & was repainted when we changed to Southern BRS.
I was a fitter at Beccles until '84 & we had a few F7’s with consecutive numbers.
The trailer was used on the Fibrenyle contract (plastic bottles).

Chris , the vehicle was oiriginally a BRS Eastern vehicle & as such would have been registered at Derby( Eastern’s headoffice) & then may have been transferred to another depot ( for the rental division ) in later life

Hi norfolktrucker thankyou for the info , I parkred up in the Beccles depot one night in the early 90s , park on the wash bay under a tin shed , bloody noisey night . When every one went home was my truck as i was bored .
regards jakey

I know life was harder then for drivers, but the old wagons/scenes have so much more character/atmosphere than modern pics!

To the left ,boxes of Canary tomatoes, those wicker baskets- new potatoes, those barrels on the right- grapes packed in cork. Those small crates stacked at the back are familiar but can’t remember. I used to work in those days in Covent Garden . But that doesn’t look like CG- possible?

hiya,
Done a bit out of there when on for Bowkers in the early 60s the building style seems similar to CG as I remember it, but I have difficulty remembering what I had for my breakfast.
thanks harry long retired.

what I remember from the 50s and 60s going to work with my dad everyone seemed a lot happier then than now although they had a much tougher life with a lot less for their efforts, I have to agree the old pics defo have more character/atmosphere than modern pics that way of life and the knowledge those guys had is probably gone now the way they loaded their lorries so the stuff would not move to much even the way the guy loaded his barrow was a work of art.I must stop this rambling about old times my sons will be on at me haha please anyone who has the old pics get them on here, cheers all fredm

I did a bit out of Covent Garden late 60s Harry, not one of my favourite jobs.At first I thought those two motors were backed up to the Floral Hall but it doesn’t look right to me somehow.Like you say the architecture looks right though.

hiya,
Yes Chris not the best job usually took most of the day to load only to lose the trailer “needed for night trunk” and after all your hard work be presented with an empty trailer which the London day man hadn’t managed to load, say no more, ah well there’s always tomorrow usually load out of MAT at Dover or if lucky their Barking yard, they must have thought it was me who was Barking eh’.
thanks harry long retired.

Could be the Cobbles but its a bit too flat…Its the only place where you can park 'em side by side- or I should say ,was!

This was my first motor on BRS, went like a little sowing machine. Used to take my dog in the cab with me. Had to sleep in the cab one night with old Bob but he kept on yawning all night because of the street lamps & then would start whining every time he saw a rat!Not much sleep that night. Got held up at Thatcham paper works & too late to book digs .One of my first long distance trips.

How about this beauty , was on general for many years , then made in a wrecker about 1983/4
