Bristol wants to ban the lorry too

Muckaway:
I could’ve blown the horn, yelled obscenities out of the passenger window but for all I know, he could’ve been one of those tools with a helmet-cam, ready to YouTube a “dangerous, inconsiderate juggernaut driver.”

Which reminds me… I passed a cyclist wearing a helmet-cam on the A6 coming up from Buxton yesterday. He gave me a wave in my mirror as I went passed so I think I might have made a “good lorry driver” video like this.

Safe to say my life is feeling pretty complete right now.

Why not fit a cyclist with a brain?

God no :open_mouth: that’s to easy how could you think of such a thing

bubsy06:
Why not fit a cyclist with a brain?

Because they are trying to stay on the same intellectual level as truckers.

I can see your sensible train of thought has been cancelled for this evening.

Ha! I was following one last night, road had pedestrian refuges and there wouldn’t have been enough room to safely get past him between them, etc so I stayed well back. Was then a roundabout a couple of hundred yards up, so I hung back, as he checked behind him before going onto the roundabout he turned around and gave me a big thumbs up.

I’m hoping he went to the trouble of ringing up my boss to let him know, as most of them seem quick enough to do when someone gets a bit too close.

Don’t matter what you fit to a truck in the way of safety equip, push bikes and trucks just don’t mix!
If more bike riders were killed when thier stupidity resulted in an accident then maybe message would start to get home.

FTFY…

I say ban them then let the mayor explain to everyone why there cost of milk has doubled, These after market safety features don’t pay for them self someone got to pay so I say pass it onto the consumers in the towns what want it.
Alot of the problem is people just accept it and fork out.
I wish this county was more like it’s EU counterparts they don’t want something the citizens/businesses kick off, which is what needs to be done in haulage and PCV sector about this (notice how buses aren’t included) (how come my bus fare has gone up?) Or we need to do what cyclists do.
Film it stick it on you tube, ■■■■■ and whine and throw our toys out the pram, come up with some green angle or cost reason why were kicking off so much and how we can’t work with out fear of some cyclist attacking us on youtube or in person

I don’t know why people don’t sort this logicaly with trucks
Trucks BIG LONG TALL, not very agile, Blind spots even with all the fancy mirrors under the sun. we don’t hit pedestrians or other cars (that often)
Cyclists small, vulnerable, ALL AROUND FIELD OF VISION, very agile can change direction fast and stop in 1/10th of a HGV
see where I’m going with this? Train crossings for example trains don’t have a big plastic bubble around them in case someone is on the track there are laws which protect people keeping them away from the trains or campaigns to Watch for trains

Don’t blame me, blame Jose Cuervo

See it’s always somebody else’s fault

The Bristol Mayor george ferguson is one of the cycling numpty brigade himself, the owner of an electric car and a Liberal (although keen to point out, not a liberal democrat). Of course he will try to ban heavies (and cars) from Bristol roads, not because he has any sense but because it will gain him brownie points with the likes of Clegg and by banning the life-blood of the city, this will give his buddies in the cycling fraternity plenty of room to further their skills in the best ways to get injured and claim a crap load of money for something the THEY caused in the first place. Cyclist are in a win win situation; remember the law was changed around 2008 ■■? whereby any accident involving a cyclist, no matter whose fault it was and the car/truck driver will be found guilty and never the numpty that probably caused it the accident.

I myself, witnessed this very stupid law first hand. A slight bump on the back wheel of a cycle with no other damage and not even hitting Mr Numpty off and despite him stating in his Police statement that HE did cause the accident (This was also read out in court), I was awarded 4 points for diving with undue care or attention and a £400 fine. He tried to claim compensation for his £600 bike (more like £150) and the courts rejected his claim. Eight months later, he filed a claim directly with my insurers for £15,000 for so-called injuries sustained - still ongoing.

You must have had poor representation, read the thread about the minibus driver that killed a cyclist & got away with it.

He admits fault…surely that should be end of it :unamused:

Yes you would think so wouldn’t you, given the amount of drivers that get off scot free for incidents a lot worse than this, including the death of the cyclist, I’m having a hard time believing he’s telling the full story.

Think you’ll find the article your referring to is he The mini bus driver, was found not guilty of the death another vehicle was found to have driven over the cyclist …read the Full story…

I’ve read it many times, the minibus driver knocked him off his bike smashing his helmet to bits. He got away with it. Merc driver following thinks he might have run over cyclist, might mind you not did, and nothing has happen to him either. Result is 1 dead cyclist & 2 drivers getting away with it. How do you run over a body and not know it? And not stop to see what’s what. I’ve hit a couple of rabbits in the road and even a pigeon, I knew it every time.

The Bristol Mayor wears red trousers.Says it all really.
Who wears those nowadays,Rupbert the bear.

I was convinced I’d run over a traveller once; So I reversed back to double check.
