This is number 1 I was mate on this with Barry martin on Stockport this thing could shift but if you went over 70 it would throw the fan belts off I used to warn relief drivers but they all did it
alix776:
Will show these to my dad at some point as he worked for bridges as a driver obviously many moons ago
What`s your dads name Alix? might know him.
Hey tommy did you once take me home in one of these?
Sure did Mick! It was a 1959 model, pale green. I once had seven people in it going home. Ha ha. That was during 1976, I was shagging a girl from the shoe shop in Sale, Rennie, er, although married I think by then was bonking one from another shoe shop in Eccles!
By the way, you’re a master of understatement Mick. I certainly did know Carl. We lived together for two years, renting his mum’s house, lots of parties and madness! Ask him about some of them, the Cat’s birthday was one. Cat was called “schade” German for ‘Shame’. Ask him about the “Mars” weekend! Although I very seldom go to pubs now it might be nice to pop into the bluebell sometime for a chinwag. BFN.
Yeah tommy you must get to bell carls mentioned a few things about what went on when we never had a care in the world but everything worked ha! Not like today anyway I see Andy drapers still driving ha!
Of course, on the 5 day runs ( with stop-out money,) all over the country, I often found myself where I shouldn’t be. Like you? Exeter deliveries turned into Torquay nightclubs. Amazing.
I recall dropping 16 x five gallon drums of oil (worth a fortune) in a bloke’s house next door to my actual drop next door, (a garage) in London at 1am…yeah, 1 o’clock in the morning - he was ■■■■■■■ just stumbling in from the pub . The drums were stacked in his hallway! This was so I could drive round the West End sight-seeing all night. Like a chariot race, I loved it…laughed my head off and felt on top of the world. No tachographs then. Two log books. Talk about happy days…and I was being paid!
The other pic is Me at the front, is it Ray Houghton on the left? I think the guy right behind me was ‘Jimmy’■■
If anyone can identify us all I’d be grateful.
The guy on the right as I said, was the other driver assigned to the oil contract, with a brand new, special liveried TK. These were the happiest days of my life.
I just hope the photos have loaded correctly or it means nowt.

Well done Tommy you out did me but if I’d become a driver who knows what could have happened ha! Unforgettable great times.
