If your looking at wednesbury there’s also Allied Bakeries by the Albion ground in west brom.
Or if you don’t mind being out with someone all day there’s Currys (know how) in wednesbury aswell,or pallets there’s Sheldon Clayton in wednesbury or Culina in bilston or Spar in willenhall or Blakemores in darlaston.

Yes I passed there the other day, (allied bakeries) I might consider that if all else fails.

I never thought of spar, don’t they put some of their employees through class 1 training? Any idea what the money is like? Thanks for the suggestions.

Not worked at any of the above, but talking to blokes who have…Spar,Blakemores,Sheldon & Clayton…AVOID ! Allied Bakeries not too bad apparently,I used to bump into their drivers when I worked for Hovis, and they were always less rushed than I was :unamused:
My advice, avoid delivering anything that can be eaten or drunk

Cheers, any idea of the pay at allied, I’m sure I remember someone telling me circa 27k?

I was talking to a warburtons driver few weeks back he said there’s a lot of rushing in those particular jobs :open_mouth: mind you I’m not too fussed about the rushing, I’m just sick of heaving heavy cages around.

If you’re not into keep fit - Might I suggest going for PM, evenings and night work?

If your shift is nights - you cannot legally work over 10 hours as it stands. If you are days - there’s nothing to stop you having your basic 9.5 hour day pushed out to 12-15 hours on occasion.

Overtime is paid for “extra shifts” rather than “extra hours on the base shift”. Effectively “job and knock” - so the last thing you want is an awkward round!

I would definitely consider night work - suppose it just depends on pay and all that

I was thinking about trying greggs which I think is 1am start, 10 hours pay, start trial on agency for 13 weeks, around £110 - 120 a shift.

I know all about keeping fit in my job  ideally, I would rather ‘drive’ more than do loads of deliveries.

The night shift allowance isn’t much of a premium over days as it stands. I’d argue that there is a premium no C2 work, since it pays pretty much the same as C1 work now. There is overtime to be had on the C2 work as well (6th shifts) but such overtime isn’t so readily available on the trunking side - at least at Aylesford.

I can confidently say though that annual pay of the mid-30k range is easily possible for those who can handle a 5-6-5-6 type month on the rigids, regardless of what shift is involved. You’ll earn that money for sure - but it’s there in a time when actual real full time jobs rather than just agency shifts - are supposedly still hard to come by. :bulb:

I’m currently doing just that - 5 and 6 days repeated, 8 hour days (funny because I’m nearly on my 10th today ) on 25k though.

I definitely want to jump ship from here, just waiting for the right opportunity.

From talking to Warby’s drivers, they tend to have more, but smaller drops, typically 35 or so on some runs, but some of those drops may only be half a dozen loaves or so,hence the rush.
I used to have about 25 with Hovis.
Warby’s pay BIG annual bonuses, however, linked to length of service etc;I’m talking serious money for long timers, thousands,so I’m told, but I stand to be corrected if there are any Warby’s employees on here
The Allied wage seems to ring a bell, and to repeat myself,I never saw one of their drivers looking harassed :sunglasses: Like wot I was

Yes, my mom works in asda and she talked to a warburtons driver and he said they get a good Christmas bonus - how much I don’t know. Really hoping to hear off them, I posted my application 4 days ago…

I don’t mind doing many drops as long as it’s not back breaking, my job can be at times, like yesterday with loaded cages with wheels that won’t turn :open_mouth: my back is feeling it right now.

Allied might be worth a shot then, closer to home too

I’ve done Warburtons via limping, it’s not back breaking but waiting to have the loaves counted at some stores are boring as hell. If you are a limper you can usually dodge helping them check it by saying you don’t know the difference between 800g white toastie thick sliced gluten free, from 800g white toastie thick sliced gluten free fair trade.
Picking the orders are soul destroying and mind numbing. Again, if you limp for a living they tend to be picked by someone else.
If you do want to do foodservice work, find somewhere where it’s ready loaded or better still somewhere you have a say in how it’s loaded. I used to get this “luxury” on flour. So much easier when warehouse put the pallet on the side of the truck that will be nearest the shop.

What times did you start, and how long did the picking take? That does sound like part of the job I’d hate

4am start picking done by about 4.45 to 5am. It appeared the regular drivers got priority on the loading bays, the limpers did “run outs” which was odds and sods that didn’t go on any regular route. I’d say more driving less drops. Some orders are pre picked like larger supermarkets where say 200 loaves of one type would be taken off the trunker and put straight into a delivery truck. The corner shops were easy, often just a few loaves a day which was often easier to put straight onto their shelves instead of lugging the bread trays on dollies around the back.

That doesn’t sound too bad, it said online that it was a 43 hour week (rota) so I’m presuming done for around midday. Sounds pretty good so far.

Yep midday finish for those on regular runs, limpers used to get in around 2ish, partly due to being last out, partly due to not knowing routes and mostly to get 10 hours in.

Oh can’t say I blame you  I’ve turned down the job at brakes, got to admit it would’ve been better days and pay than what I have now, but the work sounds terrible. I asked one of their drivers not long ago “what’s that job like?”

He simply replied “■■■■” and coupled with everything else people have said here, I think it was a bit of a gamble. Fingers crossed for warburtons now.

Oh yes you can! If the workers at that site have collectively agreed to allow it then you can legally work just as long on night shifts as on days.
