Bossy drivers who think they are managers

BillyHunt:
So let me get this right, we don’t like the driver in the yard that tries to help by giving you directions or drawing you a map, but when somebody comes on here asking directions you all fall over yourselves to help! :open_mouth:

No,no  Not that at all.

If I ask for directions then I’m all up for listening but I’m just too polite to tell them they are wasting their time when they spend 5 minutes or so talking me through an 8 drop run with 300 turns, bends in the road, post boxes and flattened badger splatters and I’ve forgotten the first one straight away due to information overload.

These people are usually great people, friendly and generally down to earth all round good guys.

On the other hand, I DO appreciate them telling me that when I get on the road I have to look out for the little dirt track between the end of the terraces and the old derelict barn. Just not the whole route (which I WILL forget most of…) when my sat nav will take me to the road anyway.

Every firm has the driving God.He is paid to drive his truck but will change your trip to suit him as he has something booked at home.
He will pick faults with your lorry.
Tell you what to do and what time to be there.
Tell you off for minor things and acts like a manager. He thinks he is better than everybody else.Wants the best work and stamps his feet if somebody else gets the cream.
Toys thrown out the pram.

yep got 3 of them where i work

Drama queens the lot of them.Prima Donna’ s.

Or the drivers who question why has it taken so long, you should of been back an hour ago, well I would of been but I don’t work on break

The driver takes a holiday and the agency driver has eaten his biscuits and sweets.Used his kettle and all the condiments to make a brew and spilt sugar under the seat.

When you point that out to them …THEN tell them to [zb] off and mind there own business…these guys are often the example in the picture

asda was the opposite, it was always oh that run is a 9 hour run! which my response was normally some sort of profanity and it was done as quick or as long as i wanted to do it!

One of my colleages rang me today to ask about putting a run in order (I’m on holiday but told him to ring if any problems), he said following an argument with a driver yesterday our resident God driver got a group together this morning to round on my mate. It was nothing to do with"senior" (self appointed) driver but stuck his nose in as normal, took offence on the companys’ behalf. Bad enough having to start at 4am but a group of yokel busybodies knocking on your door wanting to know your business is just a ■■■■ take.
Senior is ex army so naturally will do anything he’s told to, without question even it’s a completely pointless exercise.

This happens so much. And not many will admit to it. If they do there is usually some pathetic excuse as to why they work their breaks.

Got one in our place. Slightly different situation. Runs about all day doing everything and anything requested of him. Given free reign to wash his motor as and when. Always picks (begs for) the best runs. Comes in half hour before everyone else. Leaves after everyone else for very little O/T. Tries to belittle the new driver at any chance, giving duff directions and confusing him. Even tried to tell a fitter how to do his job. The words f and off were heard loudly after that one.
New driver and myself just sit back and happily pick up the scraps. Usually the hard jobs that keep you out till late at night (fully paid O/T) ■■■■ life is hard lol. I usually get hit with the distance work. The office and the driving god think I hate it… Mmm can easily be 6 hrs + O/T per week. It’s horrible lol. Sometimes it pays to just shut your mouth and do as your asked rather than trying to prove how good you are.

The shut up and get on with the job method works for me. I am still fairly new to containers but I will ask if I am not sure and seemingly that is rare. I don’t moan and I check every instruction that I am not clear about. Last Tuesday the furthest I went was a couple of miles from the yard. On Wednesday I was told to keep the keys and take the paperwork for Thursdays work. Today I had been cancelled but got called in by name and I have a very cushy run. I don’t moan or comment on anything because I asked for this client and have knocked back every other job offered to me.
Why did I make this move? Too many bellends who are looked after because of the driver shortage. They don’t do their job properly and refuse to do any work that they don’t want to do ie other contracts from the same site which include some tricky reversed or having to unload a trailer. The result is that the decent drivers are getting ■■■■■■ off with being messed around. This one walked and is only doing Saturdays because its a decent trunk and no danger of it being changed

The thing with these throbbers is management believes the fruitcakes, I’ve told them many of time pull my journey of the tracker and tell me where I’ve been going wrong , that never happens. Do it by the book , you cant go wrong .
