Boris panics

Running a city as apposed to staring at Tarmac all day is no guide to intelligence.

D’ya reckon? Being able to do The Sun crossword without cutting yourself on your crayons or soaking the paper with saliva is no guide to intelligence either I reckon, but (and it’s a big but) don’t confuse Boris’s buffoonery with stupidity. I reckon that being intelligent doesn’t necessarily equate to being smart, but I think Boris is something of a wolf in a sheeps clothing. Future PM anybody?

I can see that happening, he’s a popular bloke that gets things done, appealing to the groups that matter.

Ban them all. Nothing bigger than a rickshaw within the M25.
None of us want to go in there anyway. Let the [zb]s starve.

It’s the cyclists that need educating not trucks modifying

Exactly this, they’re looking at the problem from the wrong perspective. Obviously though, it plays better with the voters to blame truck drivers than cyclists for incidents which occur because cyclists place themselves in highly hazardous situations because they haven’t been educated as to what those situations are.

It’s a size thing.
Cyclist v pedestrian. Cyclist to blame.
Car v cyclist. car to blame.
van v car. van to blame.
truck v all of the above. truck to blame.

Maybe it just needs a simpler solution.

+1
I’ve always noticed that, too

Serious question time: what time of day would be acceptable to make deliveries? Given that the rush hour lasts from 07:00 to 10:00 and from 15:15 to 18:30 at best. Overnight deliveries are not welcomed in cities due to the proximity of residential dwellings to retail outlets. That leaves a very small window of say 5 hours during the middle of the day to make deliveries. Your average supermarket May have 5 deliveries a day, each taking at least an hour to load and reload with empties. Due to the size of the trucks, you can’t have them queuing down the street waiting to get to the store (as there is pretty much a parking restriction on every london street).
So, what’s the option?
No trucks delivering the goods, no goods to for you to buy = no shops!
Would save a few lives I guess, as there would not be as much pedestrian or cycling traffic with no shop staff required, coupled with fewer cars and lorries. Flippant comment, I appreciate, but we must really wake up and smell the coffee here - we have to all co-exist on the streets and relax the nimby-isms. Delivery through the night is probably the very best option, but Doris in her des-res probably knows Boris and her complaint will get another ban or punitive fine.
And the cycle continues… (No pun intended… )

Future PM anybody?

Fixed that. :smiling_imp:

What’s needed is a coalition between a David Davis led Conservative Party and a Farage led UKIP.Then put London’s border’s back where they were pre 1965 GLC/A with a policy regarding road safety for cyclists and pedestrians to match as it was at that date.

one artic with 26 pallets, divided up into vans with 2 pallets each. That makes 13 vans on the road instead of one hgv.
That’s the answer.

It’s the ability of those extra van drivers to avoid the cyclists that needs to be considered as well. My guess is that it would be more than 13 vans in quite a few cases too, because a 3.5 tonne van won’t carry 2 one tonne pallets.
I reckon the safe weight limit for a bicycle pannier basket is probably about 10kg … that’s a lot of precious pedal pushers to deliver the goods from one artic.
Just where are they all going to queue and then park, while they are getting their delivery of five two-litre bottles of Coke checked off and the notes signed?

It’s going to be hell in Ponders End.
